Working with Angela has been an enlightening experience, one that has allowed me to clarify my goals and learn how to work effectively toward them. When I started working with Angela in January 2015, I felt scattered. I was allowing others to dictate how my time was spent. I wanted to find time to lead a healthier life, and yet I felt that the mundane tasks associated with my job as a professor--committee meetings or grading--generated too many obligations. Five months later, my conversations with Angela have helped me to understand the importance of scheduling time for everyday activities that bring me joy. Angela has greatly contributed to a new balance between my personal and professional life. I have found Angela to be a caring professional who seeks solutions tailored to your lifestyle. I am learning to prioritize exercise, healthy food--and writing, the professional task that I most enjoy.

Not only is George a great motivator and coach, but he is friendly, reliable, and offers a wide variety of challenges that can fit with any lifestyle. He also helped my niece make massive changes in advancing her cheerleading skills like college level stunts as well as learning her full!

Tina is exactly what the 5 star rating describes, outstanding. She commits to you, works out a system for your specific needs and pushes you just enough to build your skills and see results, but doesn't drill you into the ground so you never want to come back. I feel very lucky to have found her and have never had results like this before. I can honestly say going to Tina has changed my life. She doesn't fall for fads or quick fixes, she helps you create a lifestyle! Also, she's incredibly nice, warm, and welcoming. I plan to continue seeing her for as long as possible because I can't get enough!

I have been going to Body Transformations for one month and in that short amount of time I have seen amazing results, physically and mentally. Anthony is professional and extremely knowledgeable. The sessions are never dull and keep me coming back for more. At Body Transformations it's more than just working out, Anthony and his great trainers have opened my eyes to a lifestyle change that I am excited to embrace. With the guidance and support of Anthony I look forward to reaching my fitness goals.

I showed up for a walking group in April 2015 not knowing what to expect. I've been pretty physically active but even so for the past couple of years i have some slight problems with pain in my right knee when I walk, particularly when I would walk downhill. I mentioned that to Adrienne and she gave me a tip to help my stride when I walked down hill that helped immediately. I've incorporated her tips when I walk on flat ground too and as a result I no longer feel right knee pain when I walk. I still notice that I don't have as much flexibility in my right knee/leg as in my left leg, but I no longer notice discomfort in my knee when I'm in motion. I recommend Adrienne highly to anyone looking for a fitness coach. If I could give her more than four stars I would do so. Beyond the positive results I've gotten as a result of working with her, I enjoy her positive personality too. I am very glad I showed up for that walking group last April.

Louise was my personal trainer for an extended period of time - until our schedules changed :( She was consistently attentive to my personal physical situation (aches, pains, form, etc.) and worked me to reach my goals without injury. Her expertise provided challenge, her encouragement and personalized-for-me routines kept me motivated. The variety of exercises and circuits NEVER had me bored, but always left me feeling that I had worked hard, was better for, and even enjoyed it. Always a pleasure to work with, she helped me embrace this new "workout" lifestyle.

Matt Wines is a kind, patient, and knowledgeable trainer who is committed to helping me achieve my personal goals. When my goals recently changed due to shoulder surgery, Matt was eager to help me formulate a fitness game plan to help me achieve a quicker recovery. He is always on time and flexible when it comes to my schedule. When things come up, he does his best to reschedule our appointments to better accommodate me. He works around my injuries and structures our workouts accordingly. Matt's understanding of body mechanics, nutrition, and creating a very individual workout is unsurpassed. He genuinely cares about people, wants them to feel better inside and out, and truly be the healthiest they possibly can. I have trained with Matt for almost a year and I always look forward to his challenging workouts and healthy lifestyle tips. I strongly recommend Matt to anyone regardless of age or fitness level!

After many years of being active but not knowing what best works were for my body, counting calories, never really losing body fat, and wondering what exactly the right eating plan was I was referred by a friend to Amanda. I had a wonderful experience with her personal training sessions. She is down to earth and unlike any other fitness coach I have met. She was realistic, organized, punctual, readily available, encouraging, flexible, and informative. Amanda knows her stuff. There were times in the beginning, when I started eating the way she suggested and I started freaking out feeling like it was unmanageable but she would talk me through it and I came through the experience with a much better understanding of food. I finally, after 44 years, feel at peace with food without tracking and counting calories. No longer do I obsess over certain foods. Amanda teaches you what your body needs (and it isn’t cutting entire food groups out). She taught me awesome weight lifting exercises and body strength exercises too. What she taught me I can use at home or any gym. She didn’t lead me on trying to hook me into buying more sessions – she simply taught, gave me copies of what she taught, and moved on to the next session. She explained a lot about stretching, taking care of your body after workouts, and more. Amanda delivered everything promised and more. I walked away with a new understanding of how to fuel my body, without going hungry, and what the best workouts are. She kicked my butt in the gym but was encouraging the entire time – she made me want to push myself but not in a mean way. Her gym is awesome – everything you need to get fit. I can’t say enough good things about Amanda. I would highly recommend her. She is very personable and friendly yet professional. Definitely a good personal trainer for any age or gender. She knows her stuff and will get you in shape if you listen to her and work hard. I am down several lbs, clothes are looser, feeling good about myself, getting strong, and no longer obsessing over counting calories or the latest fad diet. She has given me sanity in the health department and I can’t put a price tag on that.

Working with Hannah has been a life changing experience. She is a professional that can accommodate all levels of fitness from the elderly to the adolescent. In my case , I am middle aged and was out of shape with limited range of motion and little muscle mass. The results I've experience, which takes time and patience, have been due to being steady and consistent and trusting Hannah as my guide. She has been there 110% and helped me find confidence and strength I didn't think I had. I managed to stay focused on my goal to get strong and fi without getting hurt. I highly recommend her as a trainer, coach and fitness expert.

I have been training with Amy for a little over 3 months now, and she is great! Amy has helped me achieve results I believe are sustainable for the long term. Personal training is what she loves to do, and she's committed to a healthy lifestyle herself. I really don't think she would ask a client to do something if she wasn't willing to live it herself. She's personable. I actually enjoy chatting with her while I train. She's knowledgeable. Whether it's the exercise, the nutrition, or the physical piece, it's clear that Amy knows what she's talking about. I really appreciate Amy's flexibility when it comes to scheduling. She could not make it any easier to be accountable. I highly recommend Amy to anyone who wants to live a healthier lifestyle -- strength, overall fitness, better nutrition, weight loss, or some combination. You will be happy you chose her!

Every time Shila coaches me I come away with a greater sense of who I am. It's so easy to get lost in what you "should" be doing, what you think others expect of you, how other people are doing it, but talking things through with Shila helps me get back to what is really important: how I want to do things. I'm not living anyone else's life. My values are strengthened, I feel more grounded and connected to my body, and my intuition is much clearer after our coaching sessions. Having Shila as my coach is a valuable resource and one of the best decisions I ever made.

What a life changing experience to work with Saba. She helped to me find my purpose and passion which ultimately changed my life for the better. I walked aimlessly without knowing what my calling was. Without her knowledge and wisdom to help bring out the drive, motivation and will power I had inside myself, I wouldn't be where I am today.

Sergio changed my life! The support and encouragement he gave me helped me to finally overcome issues holding me back. Having been in my place before he understood where I was coming from and always configured my workouts for what I needed that time. Once the day after my girlfriend broke up with me he looked at me and said, “ok, your doing power lifting today”, the growth hormone and testosterone from that work out brought me out of my depression and I felt 100% better. Sergio uses your strengths and what you love doing to help you achieve your best results. He never brow beats you or makes you feel bad. He has also been as much of a life coach for me as much as a trainer. His wisdom has helped me improve many other parts of my life and become the person I’ve been trying to become for 20 years! Training, guidance, diet, martial arts, life coach and just being the Yoda of the gym, Sergio does it all!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

        What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

        Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
