After many attempts to replace my old, mismatched living and dining room furniture, it was obvious I needed help. I just didn't know what style or colors to choose. Fortunately, I found Lulu of Styled Staging though Thumbtack. She was amazing; what had once seemed overwhelming to me became fun. After just one visit with me in my home, and one shopping trip, Lulu suggested specific furniture items that fit my lifestyle and my home. Her design knowledge, enthusiasm, and great personality were a wonderful match for me. I will post some pictures once I finish accessorizing.

Amber has been styling and coloring my hair and my family's hair for 13 years. She is talented, and keeps up with the latest trends and methods. She uses high quality, healthy products. She listens to what we want, and is honest about what she thinks is best for each of us. Her ego never gets in the way. She is mature, punctual, and fair. She is also intelligent and thoughtful, and a great person to chat with for an hour or two. Everyone I have sent to her loves her. She will style my hair forever!

The best action I took when deciding to redo my house interior was to hire Andrea! While I had some vague ideas, Andrea was able to capture them on paper and then into products. Originally, it was just the den to redo but I was pleased enough to expand into the living room. I felt comfortable selecting some items on my own which kept me involved and truly made it my project, not just what someone else did to my house. Working with Andrea was a pleasure and the end result is one I treasure!

We hired Martina to help us find the perfect paint color and tile for our major home remodel. We were so impressed that after the remodel was complete we asked Martina to help us with the furnishings and layout of our living room. She also found the perfect upholstery to update our mid-century furniture. We would hire Martina again and have recommended her services to friends.

I am so thankful I found KEENEYE STAGING, I was looking for advice on what needed to be done to put my 81 year old uncles property (2 houses and 5+ acres) on the market and get the most value. This is such a hard transition at any age to put your home on the market, especially after living there for 17 years. Recently my aunt passed away which made this transition even more difficult. Lisa and her team treated my uncle like family listening to his concerns and making sure the home was still comfortable for him to live there while the house was on the market. I don't know what I would of done without KEENEYE STAGING. The home looked amazing and the attention to detail was impeccable. It looked like the house had been remodeled... the colors Lisa used through the rooms literally brought life to the space, every detail from the furniture, rugs, wall art, accent pieces down to the towels and shower curtains gave warmth and life to the space. It was exciting to go room-to-room to see at her creativity. She took time to explain to my uncle why we needed to stage the house and even asked for his opinion, which he loved! He even asked if he could keep some of the items she brought. To find this type of talent, creativity, professionalism and compassion in a company is a rare find. I highly recommend KEENEYE STAGING. Thank you, Lisa!

Alison was an amazing partner in designing our living room and dining room interiors. She truly listened to our visions and hopes and was able to "articulate" them with a comprehensive design proposal. I loved the color palette and the detail in all the pieces she picked. She also worked really well with our price point and was able to find amazing items. I really valued her professionalism and quick turnaround, especially given how much work clearly went into the design proposal. She also iterated really quickly with us and was responsive and helpful as our ideas shaped. I couldn't have asked for a better partner!

My wife and I worked with Fernanda on remodeling our large family room. She helped us pick out the right colors, furniture and finishes. She even came up with an amazing design plan to add a wall that allowed us to turn unused space into a mud room and make our tiny bathroom bigger. All while staying on budget!!! I can see why Fernanda was recommended to us by a friend. She is the best of the best when it comes to interior design and is extremely talented. She was very easy to talk to and listened to our wants and concerns. She was worth every dollar (which was my main concern). I tend to be skeptical when it comes to this line of work, assuming that the designer will go for the top priced items. That was not the case at all! My wife was nervous about hiring an interior designer at first, worried that someone was going to dictate a style to her or present a bunch of options that she didn't want. Fernanda was excellent. My wife felt that she really understood her unique style. Fernanda presented piece after piece, option after option until my wife thought everything was just right. When the room was all done and put together, my wife's comment was, "I'm so happy she found this [coffee table / console / couch / curtains / etc]. This was exactly what I wanted." Working with Fernanda was a great experience and pleasure for us. We will be calling her again to help us update our kitchen.

I had Emily at Pro Flooring come over to my home for an in home consultation – we are refinishing hardwoods and planning on installing new carpet. She was very personable and professional, as well as, knowledgeable about products and installation services. On a side note, she noticed we were, also, planning on painting the interiors and she took the time to offer a paint color consultation.

As the General Advisor for a sorority, I hired Mandy to complete a renovation of the existing chapter room, located in the basement of a dormitory. Within a matter of days, Mandy took the room from "Drab to Fab"! The room went from brown, dingy, and depressing, to bright, colorful, shiny, and happy. The girls loved their new space and started hanging out in there all the time (before, they were in for chapter meetings and left quick!). Mandy's fantastic design and renovation brought a sisterhood even closer together! During the hiring process, I was able to see some of Mandy's other work and I can honestly say that I would hire her for any other type of project!

Tess came over and helped me with my closet, literally holding up item by item and got rid of a ton of stuff that I haven't worn in years (or ever) but for some reason had a hard time letting go of by myself. She wasn't judgy or rude about clothes or shoes that I had that were (ugly) maybe dated, just explained why I didn't need them and then it was easy to toss. After we had gotten rid of all the excess she went through and organzied it (based on what I would find useful - not her just telling me what to do) Shirt styles and then colors within the styles etc. It's probably been two months and I have since maintained the organization because it feels so good and just makes sense!

I was very hesitant about a kitchen remodel because I am not good at selecting/matching designs and colors together. From the very beginning Katy made me feel so comfortable and let me know that we could do this together. Katy took me to places that pertained to the kitchen remodel and let me select what I liked and then I asked her opinion and she was honest. The kitchen looks fabulous and looks bigger and brighter than ever before. I am so thankful that Katy was there for me and I highly recommend her services. We live on the North end of of Seattle and she lives on the South end, but that did not stop her from making sure we where taken care of each step of the way. She is a super pleasant person to be around and knows her business. This review is by Nancy Schwantes.

My 20 year old house needed a "refresh" and I needed guidance. Helena was prompt, flexible, and creative in her approach to the project. Her selections and recommendations were impeccable, and her color sense and material choices were beyond anything I would have imagined. She indulged my whims, focused my selections, and adapted to my varying level of supplier and vendor interactions. She was a joy.

Melissa is a pleasure to work with and her designs are fresh, stunning and very comfortable to live and work in. She has a trained eye for high end, luxury design, scale, color, materials and flow. She is my go to resource for beautiful, affordable and well made materials, some that are not always seen in Seattle. She has provided me with drawings that create the best use of space with different options for specifications and works within a realistic budget. She is highly professional and her follow through has let me rest at night - as she takes care of details with shipping, tradesmen, installation and walkthrough.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

      • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
      • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
      • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
      • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

      • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
      • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
      • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
      • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
