FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$60/hr $50/45 min. $40/30 min.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I assess what your needs are based on previous experience and interests. For total beginners, I start by showing you how to hold the instrument, explain how to care for it, and give you a first lesson in bowing. If you've had experience, I ask you to play for me. That allows me to quickly see how I can help you. Normally I will show you exercises and teach you a tune by ear at each lesson. We will always spend some time playing together. For those who aren't interested in learning tunes, we might focus on improving basic technique, stylistic fine points, improvising and seconding.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I having been playing violin for 45 years. I started with classical music, but 5 years into it discovered fiddling, and I've been able to make a living as a fiddler for the last 35 years. I studied jazz at Berklee College of Music. I have performed all over the US, in Europe and Latin America, and I have taught at numerous music camps and schools, including the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, Augusta Heritage Festival, Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, and Carl Nielsen Music Academy in Denmark.
