I can't get over how wonderful, talented, and patient Jaclynn is! I contacted her in my search for a wedding photographer, and with the first meeting I knew I wouldn't want anyone else photographing my wedding. She offered to give us a engagement shoot while she was in town, and worked very well with our dogs (who are RARELY on a leash and have never been anywhere but home). Each image I received from the shoot was beautiful, and I'm a person who typically hates how I look in pictures. I have repeatedly changed my wedding date (from over 18 months away to 3 months away to now 6 months away) and each time she bent over backwards to ensure she would be available for my wedding date. I cannot emphasize my gratitude to this incredible woman enough. I will continue to use her as my photographer even after my wedding date has passed!

Incredible Video!!!! First they were early and were never stopped filming but they were so in touch with what was going on around them that my Mother in Law thought that they weren't at the wedding because she never saw them. It was incredible for her to see the 1 hour wedding video and realize they had captured everything from the day and the ceremony. As well their 5 minute summary video has been watched over and over. All the people who couldn't make it to the wedding Loved it and thanked us repeatedly for getting it. Don't be like so many of my friends who say after seeing what memories we have captured they wished they would have had everything captured professionally!

The StoryMakers provided video services for our recent wedding vow renewal ceremony. They were affordable, worked with us to understand what we were looking for, were subtle/seamless during our event, and quickly provided a finished video to us. We're happy that now we have a video to remember the key moments of our event and to share with family and friends!

Topside Marketing is a professional team that knows how to pull the story together. Following the development of our business, John congealed the elements into a rich collection of very desirable images, sounds and verse. His videography is nothing less than the "top", and our brochures now grace many a refrigerator door. Our investment was well spent on Topside.

Michael Fort is a professional, experienced and skilled photographer and entertainer. Aubrey and I feel it takes more than camera skills to capture and create the moments and memories Michael produced on January 14th, 2012, our Wedding Day, on the beach in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. I met Michael right after he left his stage entertaining at DJ night in a resturant/bar in Federal Way WA. My daughter actually recommended him. That evening he showcased himself as a polished entertainer and showman. His skills came in handy for our reception in Puerto Vallarta. Our wedding was a destination event in Mexico. Michael has photographed many destination large and small weddings and events in all the beautiful Mexican cities. Because of his experience, knowledge and contacts he was able to save us valuable time and money arranging transpotation, music and equipment for the entire wedding party in various locations around Vallarta. Michael had personally selected several locations on Banderous Bay and on the beach as well as the Malicon in Valarta. He rented (2) 18 passenger large Toyota Vans. Tourists and locals on the beach thought we were celebrities in town for a photo shoot. What an awesome experience for my wife and I. Personally Michael is relaxed and friendly, however when it is time for pictures he shows off his professional skills keeping everyone in the picture focus on him or where ever he wants to looking. Thinking back about the pictures I have taken, remembering how difficult it is keeping everyone focused for a pictures, its hard to get everyone looking at the camera for the several thousand pictures he took for our event. I highly recomend Michael Fort your next local or destination wedding, He will capture and creat pictures for your wedding to delight family and friends for years to come. Thank you Mike for everything you have done for me and my family. You made our wedding day beautiful. Sincerely Jim and Aubrey Triggs

Imogen & Zoe! You both have outdone yourselves! Brandon and I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our photos! Thank you so much for putting up with us and us not knowing what to do. You both helped us learn some new tricks to take better photos and we really appreciate it. You were such troopers with the sometimes scary snow, I'm so glad no one got hurt (btw Brandon has healed his slightly scuffed chin, lol). It was a delight to talk with both of you and it really was a fun day! I was in pain the day of, but only slightly sore the next day thankfully. It was well worth the hike and I'm tickled we got snow. What a blessing! I appreciate how quickly you got these photos to us. When I first saw them I saw they were beautiful photos, but I had to come to terms that I'm not a size 0 and I know I'm not and that's ok, I'm just not used to taking glamorous photos and it's weird to see myself in photos. I let the site rest for a few days, and looking again I just can't stop looking at them. I'm not perfect, but I'm beautiful just the way I am. Thank you for showing me! I still hope to get a little fitter for the wedding, but if not, it will be alright. I'm not sure forbidding myself of all sweets is a good way to live life, lol. I will be writing soon as I'll be ordering some photos. Sarita

Kristy with EmotePro Video is amazing! I can't recommend her highly enough. She's a total professional. I had some ideas of what I wanted for my promo video and she helped bring them all together. My favorite part was the turn around time. Super fast, very affordable and very easy to work with. The response from my video has been amazing. Proof that the power is in video. So far I've gotten two new bookings in the first couple hours of sharing it. I will definitely be using EmotePro Video in the future!

Curtis was on time and patient even though the wedding started an hour late. He seemed to always be where the action was without being in the way. I haven't seen the finished product yet, but when I do, I will update this review. Even at this point, if I was in need of his services again I wouldn't hesitate to request him.

Working with Note was a fantastic experience. My fiancé and I are were very particular about how we wanted our wedding ceremony filmed, especially because we had a large number of guests (250+) in a tight venue. We really appreciated the fact that Note and his team were willing to sit down with us on multiple occasions to discuss our preferences and how our values could be integrated into the video. While I liked what they had to offer at our initial meeting, what really impressed me was their professionalism at the wedding itself. Note and his team coordinated with our event planner and photographer to ensure that they could get all the footage they needed without being intrusive. One of my close friends even asked me who I had hired for the video afterwards, and I was more than happy to refer him to LFF. Although my fiancé and I haven't received the final copy of our wedding video, we are happy to wait because the trailer they showed us was absolutely gorgeous. I appreciate that these guys take their time to deliver quality footage.

We were debating on whether or not we even wanted videography for our wedding. We decided to go for it since we only get married once in our lives, hopefully. I have never been happier with the product, service and overall experience while working with a professional. AG Films captures all the right moments and tells a beautiful story of the whole wedding in his videos. My wife and I love the video so much, we end up rewatching it at least once a week. A big thank you for making our day extra special.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
