PIANO LESSONS THAT NURTURE A LOVE OF MUSIC AND LEARNING
Lessons are tailored to the individual, according to age, learning style, ability, and goals. At Li-San's Piano Studio, students are excited to achieve their goals in the most enjoyable and effective way possible.
Li-San encourages conceptual learning (not simply note by note), a strong sense of rhythm, and the ability to read and create music easily. For younger kids, colored notes or fun characters spark imagination and right brain usage.
Students progress to reading on the music staff quickly, as they are trained with fun flashcards, software and apps on the iPad or computer. We use technology and games to their advantage so that your child will be eager to learn and get to the next level.
In traditional lessons, home practice is a burden on the student and the parent. At Li-San's Piano Studio, students learn their music in the lesson, so all they have to do at home is rehearse what they already learnt.
No more struggling with pieces that are too hard, and no more nagging your child to practice. They will want to show you their achievements!
THE MUSIC UNLOCKED DIFFERENCE
The methods used at Li-San's Piano Studio are wonderfully different to traditional methods. At Li-San's Piano Studio, all aspects of playing the piano are integrated into a comprehensive whole, so that students apply learned concepts in multiple ways, whether it be performing, improvising, or composing.
Unlike traditional piano teachers, Li-San teaches repertoire, theory, scales, chords, and rhythm patterns in a way that reveals the bigger picture so that students can play delightful music early in their piano education, and be motivated by their nurtured love of music to continue lessons long term for stellar results.
ENCOURAGING MUSIC READING FROM THE BEGINNING
Reading ability is not sacrificed for playing ability at Li-San's Piano Studio! Some say that music is a language that should only be spoken first.
However, reading can be the hardest aspect of learning music, and need not be neglected until later. It is possible to read music AND be a skilled pianist early on.
To improve music reading ability, students enjoy playing through carefully designed methods such as Premier Piano Course or Premier Express.
Students learn to read by patterns instead of being trapped in one or two hand positions, like other popular methods. They do not resist music reading, because they learn it from the beginning.
CD's or mp3 downloads are included so that students can absorb the music easily and play along.
Performance, reading, and technique are well combined, and provide a wonderful foundation for progressing to advanced piano music.
Within 18 months of lessons, students are playing a variety of music, such as Jazz, Rags and Blues, Christmas, Disney, Pop and Movie Hits, and particularly those with orchestral accompaniments or duets.
Students are encouraged to bring their favorite music. We can even compose music together!
COMPUTER LAB TIME
Another unique aspect of Li-San's Piano Studio is the computer lab, where students revise concepts they learn. Kids make super fast progress when allowed to play GAMES at the computer!
These include activities that improve music reading ability, rhythm, and listening skills.
The computer lab is equipped with a computer, midi keyboard, headphones, and a wide variety of music software.
MONTHLY PERFORMANCE CLASSES
After just 6 months of lessons, students are ready to perform!
Li-San holds performance classes grouped by age & ability on certain days of the year (marked on the studio calendar), with optional registration. These performance classes are some of the favorite times that students have at Li-San's Piano Studio.
Students make friends with other students and share their enjoyment of music together.
We play games to help students read their notes better, internalize rhythms, and even board games to help them understand music theory concepts.
Other performance class activities include learning duets or trios in class time, and performing them by the end of the class. Students get so excited for ensemble playing!
