Ernesto and his team did an amazing job handling my garden with care. Thorough cleanup, and very detailed attention given to a wide array of plants (classic Rhodies, camellias, viburnums, and the rest of the collection...no to mention my wisteria trees, and the list goes on). Attention to detail, and no plant left untouched. Great work!

Martin took care of a year's worth of yard debris in a matter of hours. He did such a great job that our neighbor asked him to come over when he was done. Martin was incredibly flexible. He met with us and completed work within 48 hours. We highly recommend Martin and Herrera Landscaping!

Carlos did a wonderful job with the 3/4 removal of a tree located in a very tight spot between 2 city homes, whose branches also had grown into the power lines. This required a power drop and additional care and knowledge. He and his crew did the job for the price quoted, which was very reasonable, and left no branch behind! I was more than pleased with the work, will use Carlos Landscaping again, and will recommend him to anyone needing ANY type of lawn, land or tree care! :-)

Bolivar did an excellent job. The windows sparkled. Further: he returned all calls, showed up on time, and left my property without any disruption to flower beds or landscaping. I would hire him again with no reservations.

Polo helped us install new sod, cut Branches from a huge pine tree to bring in more light, plant a bunch of plants and trees, and install landscaping pavers. It was a complete redo. Working with Polo was great. He has an excellent attitude, is very patient and helpful, and is very reasonable on pricing. Looking forward to doing more projects with his team.

We could not have been more pleased with Sheldon's yard services. Our back yard was completely overgrown and needed a lot of work. He stopped by to assess and said he would take care of it and he did. His professional attitude and polite manner was very appreciated. He also gave us helpful suggestions and willingly answered any questions we had for present and future projects. We will be using him on phase two of our back yard renovation.

I love my new landscaped yard! They are very professional and have a lot of expertise. Since I was so difficult as far as the plants I wanted for my front yard project, he went with me to help me pick out the ones I liked at a local nursery. I was amazed to see how fast they got the project completed, and how efficiently done. My next door neighbor was so impressed with the upgraded look of my yard, he asked them for an estimate to work on two projects in his yard as well. I would definitely hire them again. Their rates are reasonable too!

Facilitated the process all through Thumbtack, which is what I want from this type of service. Far too often service providers immediately want to get on the phone to organize. The reason I use these services is to not have to use the phone. So super helpful when Tran's Lawn Care didn't require that.

I had a pretty small job for Noah to do since I think he does mainly large jobs, but he came over, gave me an estimate, and did the work. I had extra gravel put on my two side yards and moving several plants around my front landscaping, including a Japanese maple that was root bound in a pot. He and his partner worked pretty much the whole afternoon and accomplished what I needed. I would recommend them for your small or large jobs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
