They removed (2) Green Ash Trees on small city lot. One had a 5 FT trunk and stood 60 FT high, the other a 4 FT trunk and 50 FT high. House, fence, neighbor, and power lines were obstacles. Roots were on surface and both trees had mounds. Both trees were removed safely without any damage to obstacles, debris cleaned up and hauled away on day of tree removal. Came back when ground was frozen to grind out stumps. Raked, swept, and cleaned lawn and sidewalk. Timing was as agreed to, and they contacted me when they were coming each time. Cost was as quoted, no extras, no surprises. NOTE: They would not accept partial payment, paid only when job was complete and I was satisfied. That is outstanding in this day and age. And they only wanted a fair review, good or bad. I could not find any reason for a less than perfect review (and I tried). I am completely satisfied and would recommend them to all friends, relatives, and neighbors without hesitation. By the way, neighbors came by to ask them to quote on their trees & stumps, and at least one had a stump ground out on Mom's block. And neighbors & friends have been calling Mom to ask who did the work, as it looked so good. Please consider using these people if you want a good job done at a fair price and without hassle.

These guys are the hardest working landscapers I’ve employed. They know what they’re doing, they don’t rush things and they do a very good job. So far they have completed the Spring cleanup, edges about 1/2 acre of trees and flowerbeds, as well as deliver & install some high quality mulch.

Sam Theis and his brother did a nice job on the huge oak tree and were able to chip the branches into an area where I wanted them. They also cut down a nasty barberry. Sam said he would be back to give the barberry a treatment to kill it. They arrived when they said they would and cleaned up nicely afterwards. They are recommended.

We had part of a tree snap off. We needed the rest of the tree removed. Quentin changed his schedule to start last Sunday. Got most of the tree down, came back Sunday finish cutting down the tree in the cold. Even through Quentin was having family concerns he still found the time to finish the job. I would recommend 1/2 price tree for there tree work.the job took 1 week to complete.

Tree Guys were very professional when I contacted them to quote me on a tree removal. I was concerned about how my yard was going to look after the work was complete and i have to say that I'm very pleased. The tree is gone but not a lot my money. Great service for a very reasonable price.

Working with Haas tree service was a great experience! We moved into our new home a few weeks ago and the front yard was overgrown with “filler bushes” and the maple trees had all overgrown onto the house and into the neighbors yard. Getting the quote from Dave was really simple, scheduling was convenient (and really swift!), and when I came home from work the day after the work was done it was like a new house! All the filler bushes were gone and ground up and the trees were beautifully manicured. They are very fairly priced and a pleasure to work with. I would recommend Haas Tree Seevice to anyone.

Midwest Landcare just completed some landscaping work for me. It included replacing a tree, clean up and replacement of some overgrown shrubs as well as some filling and seeding an area. I am very happy with the work, but the real reason that I am writing this review is twofold. First, David was always very responsive throughout the process. He always let me know what was happening and when. The second reason is how his crew did. I really appreciated how they cleaned up after the job. They removed quite a bit of old shrubbery, landscaping materials, etc and when they were done it was CLEAN. Another thing to point out is that they were careful around stuff that was in place and staying. They even mowed my lawn and edged it. that was like a hot towel after a shave, really a nice touch but not expected!

I am so excited, this giant tree was removed from our yard today. Sun on the pool all day long! There's a person up in the tree, kind of hard to see. No more sap, needles or pinecones. The branch Phil called the widow maker is gone! These guys did a great job! Thank you, Crowley Tree Experts! Great price too! Highly recommend them!!! Come on summer!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

      • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
      • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
