Introduction: Anne Robinson is a recipient of Steinway's Top Teacher Award for 2016 and offers lessons on a beautiful Steinway grand in her home studio. As a performer and pedagogue she has invested more than a decade in music learning research and professional training, and has devoted her life to the demands of classical piano performance. Investing in music is to invest in changing the world because music changes people; to learn the skills of playing the piano well is to gain new insight into what it is to be human. Moreover, to have a musical mind is to become a person with awareness for creativity, structure, and communication that goes beyond words. Anne offers personalized instruction to accomplish these goals. I enjoy making music! Piano lessons should never be about warming up with boring exercises, or turning the next page in a method book, or playing one piece for an entire year. My students make music in the very first lesson. They also improvise, explore creativity, and learn how to think in music. We all possess these qualities but it takes an excellent teacher to draw them out of the student. I enjoy giving people music and seeing them develop into musicians.

It has been such a pleasure to work with Anne as a parent of her student. She has a great work ethic, cares about her student and prepares for lessons keeping her student in mind. She is unendingly patient. What I really liked is how much she focused on getting her students to play right with regard to posture and hand shape. She helped one of my daughters who had trouble with holding her hand and fingers right, with many different lesson ideas and exercises. We will miss her terribly but we think Seattle will be better for it.

Anne is so good at figuring out what triggers a child to be interested in piano. Her kind, gentle and fun demeanor makes for a quick bond with children. Having a special needs child, I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
