I enjoyed practicing with Tim. I only lived in the area for a short time, but he was helpful. I think anyone would benefit from his lessons.

I am very grateful to have met Matt at Cedarburg Music. After playing guitar for 14 years I decided I needed a fresh perspective, and I signed up for my first ever guitar lesson – a very smart decision. I have taken private lessons from many different teachers for other instruments, and I feel Matt is the best teacher I have ever had for several reasons. Matt takes you as you are, and points you in the direction YOU want to go with great advice. Never once has he ever forced "his opinion" about what's good music. Instead it's a discussion, and he gets you to think. Matt knows his music theory. We often study modal theory, and focus on the intervalic separation of the notes in relation to chord tones with a keen ear toward dissonance and resolution. In my opinion, this is what separates quality musicians from those who just spray notes. A lot of teachers I've had are extremely NOT creative. They just tell you to buy a book and do what it says, then the lesson comes and it's a rehearsal. Sorry; I can do that on my own. But with Matt, it's much different. If we work from a book, we focus on understanding and applying the concepts the book lays out. This involves discussion, interaction and playing notes not written in the book. Most importantly, I am more inspired than ever with my playing, and my confidence in my compositions is growing. I believe I am getting better. Believe me, after over a decade of playing it's easy to feel like you're spinning wheels and not getting anywhere. It's a great feeling to know in my heart that I've got that ball rolling again! Thanks, Matt!

Michael is an excellent teacher. He tailors his lessons based on the specific things I wanted to learn. He explains things in terms that are easy to understand and has an easy going demeanor that makes the learning environment very comfortable. After just two lessons I saw much improvement in my technique. I would highly recommend hiring Michael as a teacher.

    About

I teach snare drum, drum set, hand drums, hand percussion, and improvisation. I mainly use my own books/teaching methods and base my instruction on each students needs and goals. I have been both performing and teaching drums & percussion for over 40 years. I've also written about music and musicians for both magazines & books. From 1983-2008, I was a contributing writer for MODERN DRUMMER magazine, writing feature interviews, technical articles, and both product and music reviews. I've also written for AVANT (UK), DownBeat, Rhythm, and many other music magazines. Among my books are: WHEN IN DOUBT, ROLL! (with Bill Bruford), PERCUSSION PROFILES (with Trevor Taylor), and THE THINKING DRUMMER series of instructional books. My long running blogs, ‘The Way of the Gong’™, and, ‘Percussion Deconstruction’™, have been embraced by both the meditation/sound therapy and percussion communities. I have presented clinics and workshops at schools/universities, yoga studios, and music stores, as well as workshops at the prestigious Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in 2005 & 2012. In 2016 I was the ‘Artist in Residence’ at the MONA FOMA Festival in Hobart, Australia. I use and endorse Paiste cymbals/sounds/gongs, Mike Balter Mallets, and Orpheus Percussion. PRESS QUOTES:  Bettine’s work is the sonic equivalent of action painting. Using mallets as brushes and the Gongs as a canvas, he creates vast washes of vibration and punctuates them with stabs and slashes of crescendo. He’s a combination of abstraction and visceral physicality.  Brian Ritchie, curator of MONA FOMA, Hobart, Australia Bettine played the room as much as the instruments, exploring the beating tones of vibrations that when combined sounded like a train rumbling underground. Creating a shifting wall of sound that washed over the audience, Bettine offered us a distinctive exploration into the craft of percussion.  ~ Delia Bartle, Real Time Arts, Australia Sinking into Bettine's sound world is fascinating and inspiring. ~ MODERN DRUMMER magazine     Bettine has a unique vision that sets him apart from the hoards. ~ DRUM! magazine     Bettine is essential listening for percussionists and anyone interested in solo free-oriented music.  ~The Improvisor I enjoy sharing the knowledge and experience I have gathered over the past 40 years. I also think it's important to share this knowledge and not just keep it to myself. It's always a pleasure to see students making progress, reaching goals, and becoming better musicians in the performing world.

Jamison provides drum lessons in Sheboygan, WI. Students receive individual instruction. Lessons are 30 minutes on a weekly basis. Taking drum lessons with a proficient instructor is the fastest way to progress as a drummer. Lessons are tailored to the student's style and pace. There are two common approaches to learning drums. - Learn to read drum music by understanding notation, time signatures, and counting. - Learn to play by ear by listening and watching. Drummers who cannot read music will be lost in situations where reading music is required. Some students are better wired to watch, listen, and learn. Daily practicing is the key. Beginning drum students should practice 20 minutes every day. Effective practicing is essential to making progress. Jamison will teach you how to practice effectively. Students beginning school band will gain the solid foundation that is critical for progressing into and excelling at advanced drum skills. "As students progress, they develop a strong base for improvising in live settings, such as rock bands, church worship teams, and jazz bands." Taking private drum lessons is the best way for beginning drummers to master drumming basics and surpass the average student. Lessons are offered for these percussion instruments: * Snare Drum * Drum Set * Marimba * Xylophone * Bells * Timpani * Orchestral Percussion * Band Percussion * Hand Drums and Percussion To see about starting lessons for yourself or your child, send Jamison an email or visit SheboyganDrums. Jamison is a university-trained percussionist. He has been teaching drum for 20 years. His drum skills are sought after by performing musicians and recording artists. He has been enjoying playing drums for 23 years.
