- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I focus on FOUR training ideals: - Performance Mindset - Nutrition and Hydration - Training and Conditioning - Optimal Recovery These four facets are what lead to optimal performance for the individual - All individuals receive health and movement assessments at set intervals during training. I assess movement efficiency; stability; range of motion and flexibility; balance; and kinesthetic awareness. Using ACSM guidelines, I also assess whether the client is able to withstand a prescribed intensity and volume of progressive training. I consult with their parents/guardians (if a child under the age of 18), their primary care physician, coach(es), physical therapist, or other medical and allied health professionals as necessary. - I use the latest innovative technology, data and metric tracking software, and video photography to assess any movement patterns that can be detrimental to the continued development and performance of the individual. - I evaluate each individual on aerobic, anaerobic, power, and strength abilities using Resting Metabolic Rate; VO2 max or sub-max testing; and other tests as deemed appropriate for that particular athlete. Training of athletes: - Training and conditioning consists of 1 to 5 days per week. - Depending on the athlete and sport, I determine the best periodized program, exercise volume and intensity, sport-specific training, and recovery methods that will keep the athlete safe, healthy, and at their optimal level of performance. - Each training session is unique to each athlete. Sessions begin with performance prep (warm up) and activation. The session then moves into training in the form(s) of: hypertrophy, resistive speed/over speed, strength, power, flexibility/ROM, reaction time/SAQ, plyometrics, anaerobic/aerobic, and any combination of the aforementioned modalities. I also incorporate sport-specific training and games for variety and assessment. The sessions may end with sport-specific movements and training, cool down, stretching, and any combination. - I develop a comprehensive, individualized sport nutrition program and plan that includes macro/micro nutrient analysis; meal planning; recipes; food preparation and handling skills; travel and packing; and sport supplementation (as needed). I constantly monitor and assess each athlete for suspected disordered eating patterns/eating disorders; nutrient deficiencies; hydration status; symptoms of over-training; respective metabolic changes and disruptions for male and female athletes; rapid or unintentional weight loss/gain; and any necessary medical nutrition therapy. I also evaluate and prepare the athlete nutritionally for environmental, physical, and mental variables like changes in elevation for training and competition; stress; travel and time changes; changes in volume and intensity of training; sleep disturbances; heat and humidity; and social cues. - At the end of each session, I work with the athlete to develop a recovery plan that will fit the athletes lifestyle and abilities. Recovery methods include nutrition, stretching, sleep habits/power naps, ergogenic aids and supplements (as necessary), hydration status, and other modalities as available. Training of active individuals: - Training and conditioning consists of 1 to 4 days per week. - Depending on the individual, I determine the best exercise volume and intensity, duration, and recovery methods that will keep the person safe, healthy, and at their optimal level of performance. - Each training session is built to continue the improvement in health, body composition, movement efficiency, weight management, strength, and any combination from the aforementioned modalities. Sessions begin with a comprehensive warm-up and activation period. The sessions then moves into training in the form(s) of: hypertrophy, strength, power, flexibility/ROM, balance, plyometrics, anaerobic/aerobic, and any combination of the aforementioned modalities. I also incorporate games and activities for variety and assessment. The sessions will end with a proper cool down, stretching, and any other modality necessary. - I develop a comprehensive, individualized nutrition plan that includes macro/micro nutrient analysis; meal planning; recipes; food preparation and handling skills; travel and packing; and sport supplementation (as needed). The meals plans will vary based on the individuals goals and training volume and intensity, and will constantly change as the individual becomes accustomed to their training regimen. - At the end of each session, I work with the individual to develop a recovery plan that will fit their lifestyle, family, work/profession, and abilities. Recovery methods include nutrition, stretching, sleep habits/power naps, ergogenic aids and supplements (as necessary), hydration status, and other modalities as available.
