Introduction: I am a professional pianist and enjoy teaching all ages, all levels, all styles! While I currently perform primarily as a jazz artist, my performance resume includes most genres: classical, R&B, pop, rock, blues and country. My teaching experience is vast and I address all facets of musicianship including technique, theory, harmony, ear training and composition. I have extensive music theory knowledge and teach improvisation to all instrumentalists as well as vocalists.

I am a college student studying performance, my principle instrument is drums but I needed to be more proficient on piano and with theory to become a better and more well-rounded musician. Liz has improved my performance and playing on both instruments and has given me more vocabulary for expressing my creativity and technical abilities. She is also very patient and enthusiastic about music. I recommend her as a teacher and mentor.

I am a classically trained pianist and have been a music educator for over 35 years. Having always wanted to play jazz, and after trying to work with many very talented jazz teachers, Liz Barnes really is the one who was able to make it happen. She understands how difficult it is for some classical musicians to make the leap to jazz and has developed a way of teaching that makes it possible. She's a great musician herself and she knows "how" to teach while making it so much fun!

Liz teaches the students how to, not just read music and play what is on the paper, but she teaches students how to understand music. She teaches theory and the student begins to use that understanding to create and expand on the music they are learning.
