I had an excellent experience with David. He responded to my request immediately, set up the appointment over the phone within 15 minutes, and came to my home the same day to assist with a sink drainage and leak issue. Everything happened so quickly, professionally, and I was given a great appropriate price for the service!

Tech was very knowledge and thorough in his work. He fixed our drainage issue and took the time to examine our sinks, toilets and water heater for other issues and gave us thorough estimates and advice on everything. I really appreciated how quickly and easily we were able to set up the appointment as well, and the tech was right on time.

The price quoted for the services I (thought) I needed was reasonable and competitive. I had a clogged drain, but before attempting to clear it, Soro scoped the drains through the access points on my roof. Turns out a had a broken drainage pipe. Although he would not snake the drain for fear of damaging his equipment (completely understandable), he did provide me option for repairing/rerouting the pipe, an estimate for the work, and put me in contact with a restoration company (not impressed with them, though). I didn't end up using Elite for the plumbing work, but would highly recommend them based on Soro's thoroughness, professionalism, patience (while I submitted a claim to my insurance company, waited for an adjuster's assessment, and got other opinions on / bids for the work scope), and communication. I would hesitate to use Elite in the future. Thanks, Soro!

Polite, timely, clean, efficient, reasonable, professional, only a few words to describe the people and services at CrackerJacks Handyman Service. I was so impressed with work done installing a skylight and repair of roof and bay window that I had CrackerJacks install a new front door, porch lights, ceiling fans and security cameras. They’ve been back to do landscaping, painting, fence repair, water softener, hot water tank drainage, new bathroom sink, kitchen faucet, power wash of house and car, a quick organization of my shed, and more. I highly recommend CrackerJacks. As a senior I have no fear of them ripping me off and I am lining up jobs that need to be done that I just can’t do anymore. No more worry of keeping up my home I call CrackerJacks. Cindy Christian ILLINOIS

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
