Well 5 lights in 2 places without switch at $300 was a good value for money. I helped the technician as much as I can. Everything went well - no missing holes for the can lights and no paint patch work required. Only one issue - the fan in master bedroom was not tested after the work - the light under the fan - it's switch was not working after this work. Have to wait for a week with some arguments to be get it fixed. That's why taken out 1 star from the review.

I had rain damage from last storms in Chandler, I needed drywall repair and flooring fixed in the master bath of my rental. Doug responded quickly when he was busy with other projects. He was reasonably priced and completed the work when promised. Doug replaced drywall and textured it along with painting the affected area. He also found and replaced tile to match existing tile in the master bath and did a fine job. Doug also repaired some water damage in the garage at a reasonable price and did some minor repairs to small holes and fixed the doorknob at no charge. Bottom line is I was able to trust him to do the job and he came through as promised.

David's team is a high energy happy group that work quickly and do excellent work. I hired them to remove popcorn ceiling, texture and paint. They also did some dry wall patches to remove wired speakers in my kitchen, master bedroom, family room. They did a really good job and came back to finish up a couple of rough places after I'd paid them. I was impressed with their timeliness and quick work. For the most part, they were right on schedule. I think the highest compliment I can pay them, is to be willing to have them do more work. The attached pictures show ceiling texture, sealed and painted flat after popcorn removal. Not much to see, but that's what you'd want.

Adrian painted my bathroom. He also painted the cabinet in there. He did a great job. I asked him to come back and change the color of the trim, he came and did it with no problems. He was always on time and worked with my schedule. Great guy! I already asked him about painting my master bedroom. He said just let him know and we will get that done.

Destry and Gabe installed a barn door over the master bedroom closet. They were fast and efficient and extremely reasonable. I will definitely use them again in the future and would refer them to others.

My brother is a Contractor out of town. He told me to get 3 estimates. Dave came and gave me an estimate. He wasn't the cheapest contractor, but his pictures seem to show the quality of his work and his reviews seemed to be pretty good. He started working on a new house we just bought. First he started installing our wood floors one room at a time until all 1100 sq ft was completed. It took him about 3 days. Everyday I would check on his work and his attention to detail was greatly appreciated. I purchased some new baseboards from a place he recommend to me that was far cheaper than Home Depot. David picked them up for a small fee. He installed the new baseboards on top the laminate floor. After they were painted and caulked I now could see the difference of his craftsmanship and attention to detail by comparing my existing baseboards the the new one he installed. I seriously thought about removing all the baseboards on our tile to make them look just as good as the one he installed. We asked him if he could paint 4 rooms in the house: office, daughters room, guest room, and master bedroom. To no surprise, the quality was just as outstanding as everything else he has done so far. There was a problem that we didn't catch prior to painting. There was one wall in our guest room that had wall paper at the top. When it was painted, it caused the wall paper to wrinkle and became noticeable. David removed the wall paper and put some drywall filler, primed and repainted. I could not even tell the repair was done. Finally we had David remove the doggie door and fix the hole. There were two doggie doors. He patched the two holes and painted. After they were completed, I couldn't even tell that they use to be there in the first place. I a so appreciative to have found David. His attention to detail, and quality was just outstanding. Everything he said he could do, he has done it with excellence. He is definitely highly skilled in all areas he says he is. I have referred him to my boss and several coworkers. I will also have him paint my other house after we move out and into this one. Please take advantage of his skilled services. I hear it is hard to find people that do good quality work.

We had a Feature Wall in our Master Bedroom covered in laminate flooring. Robert, owner of B&L was prompt to respond and detailed how he would complete the project. He arrived in a timely manner and very professional. Robert completed the wall beautifully! It was an all day project, and he was thorough and was diligent. Robert does fantastic work and we will be rehiring him to complete another project in our patio. Don't hesitate to work with Robert!

Brad was quick to quote, very friendly, and professional. His work was amazing and directly in the timeframe he told me it would take. He turned my 1970's kitchen cabinets into a clean modern master piece. We really thought there was no helping the cabinets we had, but he proved us wrong. They are gorgeous now. His fees are very reasonable. This guy is an artist! I'm so pleased I found him and would definitely use him again and recommend him. Just fantastic.

We hired S&R builders to do a kitchen and master bathroom/closet renovation that we had a strict budget for. They did such a great job with our initial request that we kept adding to our project list, and they were eager to help and offered stellar pricing!! They did our entire remodel from demoing walls, reframing and texturizing, moving and adding of plumbing, moving and adding of electrical, shower tiling, kitchen backsplash, and facilitated the installation of our countertops. We are very pleased with the outcome. It turned out better than we imagined and we will definitely be recommending them to our friends!!

Yancey is the most on-the-ball home improvement professional I have ever had the pleasure of working with and that is a bold statement considering all of the work we have had done to our homes. While remodeling our master bathroom, he paid close attention to detail, communicated well, kept everything on schedule, and in our budget. I cannot say enough positive things about Weiser Construction and I very much look forward to working with him on all of our future remodeling projects.

Herb of First Impressions Contracting was the best choice for my remodel. We interviewed three contractors, and he seem the most sincere and most knowledgeable. He remodeled our guest bathroom, master and painted our entire downstairs. He was always on time and clean and well priced. We'll use him next time we need work done. Our rooms turned out excellent!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

    Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
