Julius R. says, "Nick and James at Mountain Vista Plumbing were an absolute pleasure to work with on a handful of large plumbing-related projects on our home that we recently moved into. (listed below).   1. We brought our beloved Kinetico Water Softener and RO system from our previous home and found out our new home did not have an existing water loop.  After receiving a few estimates on this pricey endeavor from other plumbers, Mountain Vista Plumbing provided more thorough and feasible alternatives and options for installing a water loop in our home.  They helped turn a complicated installation into an easy-to-understand process in which they efficiently completed in a two days with minimal construction impacts. 2. The home did not have any gas line plumbed for the dryer and stove.  Being avid home cooks and having gas stoves in our previous two homes, this was on the top of our list to have installed.  It was a lenghty process to obtain the permit from the City of Mesa and have the inspection done.  After a few weeks, the inspector gave high compliments to the quality of work and installation of the gas pipe line that Mountain Vista Plumbing installed and said it was one of the best he had ever seen. This work was completed during the same time of the water loop install.   3. Installed Bidets on all 3 toilets. No toilet paper? No problem. 4. We also performed a remodel of our Shower Stall in our Master Bathroom and Nick & James prioritized my appointment on short notice as an existing customer that included relocating and performing all the plumbing work on the shower handle as well as installing a new drain pipe and all my new shower fixtures.   I have nothing but high praise for Nick and James's quality of work, professionalism, and excellent customer service.  If you have any plumbing related projects, small or big, do not hesistate to contact Mountain Vista Plumbing to get it done right the first time! From our family, thank you Nick & James!"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do plumbers charge per hour?

Depending on the service you need (unclogging a drain, fixing a pipe, installing new pipes, etc.), plumbers charge anywhere from $45-$165 per hour. Plumbers often operate on a fixed rate model, too. Some won’t charge hourly rates because the variables involved in their work makes it less practical to do so.

Plumbers will scope out the work, calculate the cost of parts, and roll it together with other fees to give you an estimate for the job. They may even offer standard flat rates for things like installing a toilet or a sink. Reach out to plumbers near you to get an accurate cost estimate for your project or repair.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
