After interviewing multiple photographers, we felt that Marion's credentials and personality were the best fit for us. She offered a great package for 4 hours of wedding photography. She arrived on time, was prepared, and had pictures ready in the quoted time frame. We felt like she really understood what we wanted for photos and made us feel completely at ease. Leading up to the big day, she was professional, attentive, and asked a lot of good questions in regards to what we were looking for. Pictures were beautiful! We would definitely hire her again!

Randy Cason is a very talented wedding photographer! Viewing the images he captured so well from our wedding at the Biltmore Hotel was akin to reliving the event itself! I am grateful for his great skill, for I will be able to relive the strong emotions of that evening countless times over!

Meredith was amazing! From the beginning when we were shopping around for a wedding photographer to the end product, she was very professional and communicated well. She made us feel comfortable and we ended up with some great moments captured; not stiff photos. Thank you!

Michael was extremely helpful and accommodating from the very beginning of the process. Finding a wedding photographer is a very intimidating and potentially expensive ordeal, but Michael completely washed away any concerns I had. He was able to break down exactly what he could provide and offered any advice in getting the perfect shots for our special day. When the wedding day came, Michael was there right on schedule and went right to work with minimal direction. He knew exactly how to approach each scenario and capture the essence of every moment without ever being visible. To my surprise, Michael sent over all of our photos only a few days after the wedding! My wife and I were completely enamored at the quality and beauty of each picture. To say that we were pleased with the professionalism and quality of work portrayed by Michael would be an understatement. Not only did he capture the beauty of our big day, but his price almost seems like a steal for what he provided. My wife and I would hands down recommend Michael for any wedding or event for that matter.

Loved working with Adrian. He truly saved the day! With only about ten days notice, we were able to book him for a Sat., on Memorial Day weekend to photograph our very impromptu civil wedding ceremony. He was right on time, professional, and very personable. Even though we putting things together on the fly, he swiftly went with it, found several great locations to take our pictures, offered direction on how to pose, and made us feel very much at ease. The end product was just beautiful, we loved our pictures. My husband and I highly reccomend Adrian T. Bird Photography, and would use him again without hesitation.

I got married this past July at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, and had Jim do our photos for the wedding. He did an absolutely amazing job with the pictures, there is not a single one that I do not like. He was really easy to work with and very organized making the post wedding pictures. Another thing that I really appreciated was how easy the pictures were to access after the wedding. Overall he did an amazing job, and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I am so happy that I found Dave to work with! Being a complete perfectionist, it was essential for me to find a product photographer who shared my goal of consistency and was able to achieve it -- of which Dave absolutely did. He truly took the time to make sure the photos turned out perfectly and I must say he exceeded my expectations. He was super professional and punctual, was understanding about working within my budget, and it was obvious that he is passionate about his photography. I will definitely be working with Dave again and would absolutely recommend him to everyone!

Everything in ONE package! N. Patton Photography has delivered everything and more throughout my entire wedding planning. Upon meeting with Nick, he was very polite and professional. Nick's first question was, "Okay, I have to know, how did you two meet?" That alone tells me that he is dedicated to creating a perfect match of work and willing to bond with his clients. Nick and his wife, Bri, are super organized and focused on what's important: the details! We are so excited and thankful to have met Nick and Bri and cannot wait for our outcome. We will post photos post wedding :)

My wife and I hired Mark for our outdoor wedding at Cibola Vista Resort and Spa in Peoria about 6 months prior to the event. We spoke with him briefly over the phone before hiring him and were already impressed with his professionalism, thoughtful questions, and expertise. We were so confident after our phone call that we completely checked off "wedding photography" from our to-do list - we knew that we were going to be taken care of. We were even more impressed the day and night of the wedding. Prior to the wedding, Mark came to the resort and scouted out locations for various shots during our first look. When the time arrived for my wife and I to see each other, he carefully guided us through the resort and coached us throughout the shoot. The pictures turned out amazing. During the ceremony and reception, Mark and his assistant were constantly present to document but never intrusive. In fact, my wife and I had totally forgotten that they were even there during the event. When we received our photo collection (only ten days later!) we were amazed at all of the important memories that he had captured. It was as if he knew before taking each photo that these were the moments we wanted immortalized the most. The framing, composition, balance, and artistry of his work further impressed us. When we decided to look through the photographs and narrow the collection down to the ones we wanted to share with our guests, nearly two-thirds remained. If we could do it all over again, Mark would be the first person we would contact. Mark is a cut above other photographers in the Valley. He is a true artist who we would highly recommend to anyone looking to capture these special moments forever.

Lone Mountain Studios was amazing! They were helpful in guiding us through the wedding videography process since we had no idea what we wanted. They arrived early, took some great shots of everyone getting ready and incorporated our vows and reception speeches into the video. Their work is slightly untraditional, you won’t find the standard wedding video that captures just the bride and groom from start to finish. They captured the emotion of the day... I didn’t cry my entire wedding but the finished video had me in tears. It was everything we had hoped for and more. We highly recommend them for any wedding or special event you want captured!

Kyle is a rockstar photographer. I have worked with many in the past (although not for engagement shots) and he is a step above the rest. He is incredibly friendly and it was as if we were connecting with an old friend. His photos were an absolute hit at our wedding and we proudly talk about our experience with Kyle. Photos are something you treasure for life and I would trust any special occasions or moments with Kyle anytime. 5 stars.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
