Georgina created the color schematic for our new home in Civano, Tucson. Georgina is a great listener and took the time to understand our lifestyle and was able to create a color palette to incorporate our existing furniture into the new space. Georgina's architectural experience was especially useful in understanding and creating the color breaks and transitions from room to room.

I was very pleased with my 2-hour consult with Shawn. She is knowledgable in all areas of home improvement. I'm ready to make some upgrades and want to know what's possible and practical. We walked through my home, inside and out, and found simple changes for a more functional and exciting home. I now have a list of projects, along with contractor referrals. We even selected a paint color that complements my flooring and will be used for an accent wall. I appreciate the focused attention Shawn gave me. I feel as though she brings the same consideration she would give to her own home.

Jakki is amazing! Right from the start she went above and beyond all expectations. (She actually found my wedding dress for me in a little boutique near her office! She saw it, sent me pictures and it was EXACTLY what I had envisioned.) She is friendly, positive, professional and very creative. She provided us with referrals to amazing vendors and kept everything organized and everyone on the same page which, to me, seemed impossible to do. When we first met with Jakki, my now husband and I knew where we wanted our reception, but that was about it. (We had a relative who graciously let us use their fabulous home and backyard.) She ran with the little bit of info we provided and came up with some beautiful (and affordable) options for us. Our wedding was in December and she helped to create the “winter wonderland” experience we were hoping for. Not only did she coordinate beautiful flower arrangements and centerpieces, but she also had 14’ flocked Christmas trees (10 of them) brought in! It was gorgeous! I can't say enough good things about Jakki. She made the planning fun and easy and gave us a great wedding day. No matter what your budget, or how crazy your requests, she will make it happen and it will be better than you'd imagined.

This is the most fantastic interior designer I have ever worked with. I have built or moved into 7 homes in my life always using an interior designer. Leslie far surpasses any of the others. Leslie can provide the interior design for one’s home around customers’ desires. I wanted someone who would design around my likes and dislikes and not come with a specific style that was hers. Leslie exceeded my expectations in this area. Leslie is exacting, has high expectations of the contractors and subcontractors she works with, and is persistence about getting everything according to the design. Leslie was always there when needed thus making the process go very smoothly. She was timely in her ideas and in carrying them out. One thing any home owner desires it to stay within budget. Leslie was very cost effective in her selections and saved me quite a bit of money. I was happy with every aspect of her design talent. I recommend her without hesitation.

Priya has helped me with two projects. The kitchen remodel was so successful two years ago that I asked her to help me with bedroom decorating this past fall. She knows where to shop for best results. I love her sense of color, ability to work to my style, and willingness to be considerate of my budget constraints.

Jennifer Kmet with Stage Tucson is my Go To company for Home Staging. After my first time working with Jennifer a few years ago, I decided that she would consult with ALL of my listings. Jennifer staged a home for me, which I had previously listed for 75 days with no offers. The week after the staging, we had an offer very close to asking price and we closed shortly after that. I know it's all because of Jennifer's vision of the home, her eye for color/detail/furniture placement and for setting a warm and inviting space that buyers to want to live in. Jennifer is terrific with accessory/home decor staging as well as staging a home with multiple rooms of designer furniture. She works with every budget and can really put the finishing touches on a property to make it show its best and sell quickly, for more money. Jennifer has also worked with my sellers to simply rearrange furniture and give them a Listing To Do list (for example-cleaning out closets, putting personal items away, etc) which can make the home more appealing and results in a faster sale. I love working with Jennifer and you will too. She's a true professional who loves her business and knows how to help your listings shine above the competition!

I was introduced to Dee by our real estate agent. We still lived in California, but were preparing for retirement to Arizona. Dee really listened to what we wanted, and did nearly everything long distance by email. She did a wonderful job. Our great room is very comfortable and relaxing, with lots of reading light and comfy chairs. The small space is clean and neat, and rather minimal, but full of beautiful rich colors, just exactly what I wanted. Dee supervised all the contractors who did our work, and was at our home when the various furniture deliveries arrived. I trust her, and when we get ready to change out our carpet, I know just who to call! Thanks, Dee! Carol and Tony Roselli Sierra Vista, AZ

Jake LaFave installed tile in 2 bathrooms. The final result was very good. Jake is an honest, hard working guy. He did not get the job done in the time, estimated, due to tile saw problems and a vehicle breakdown. To his credit, he always called to let me know if he was delayed. I would recommend Jake to others. His prices were very competitive.

In such aggressive real estate markets, Realtors and home sellers need to create activity amongst buyers. Vacant homes feel far too sterile and baron. Many buyers lack the creativity to see through empty rooms and plain walls. Occupied homes frequently portray a cluttered, unorganized environment, and stagger any ability to create desire. My Stage is My Home provides stylish “feels like home” details that offer buyers just enough vision to mentally “settle in” to make an offer. Our mission is to professionally prepare homes for sale by offering excellent home staging services to real estate agents and sellers, to professionally arrange an office to maximize the space and the service provided, by applying our knowledge of room layout and lighting. As we do so, we will apply our best staging techniques, and rely on our personal integrity and honesty to complete the job for our clients.

Desert Chic Interiors provides professional home staging and design services. We are serving the Tucson and Vail areas.

When staging an occupied residence, every effort is made to ensure that you will be comfortable and that your home functions well while it is on the market. You don't always have 20 minutes to prepare for a buyer's arrival, so it is imperative that items be easily and quickly repositioned if necessary.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
