Our rhus lancea tree was overgrown and falling into our pool. The roots were lifting up from all of the recent rain and the weight of the tree. C.E.A. landscaping gave the best quote and were out the next day to take care of it. They pointed out that one of our mesquite trees was growing into the power line which we had not noticed before and advised us of the additional cost if we chose to have it trimmed. All in all, we decided to have the falling rhus lancea removed entirely, have our other rhus lancea trimmed before it suffered the same fate, and have an entire section removed from our mesquite tree. Another company quoted double what C.E.A. charged. Additionally, they did not expect us to pay until we could inspect the work and were completely satisfied. They did an amazing job! It looked like the fallen tree had never been there. Also, we had really neglected the debris the tree was producing over the fall and winter months but C.E.A. even cleared all of that away too! We are very pleased with our experience.

I had an old driveway farm gate attached to a broken chain link fence post. So many things were wrong with this gate, I can't begin to describe it. Gary put in a new post, welded it, straightened out the bent gate, welded the gate fencing, and put in a new wheel that had to be modified to fit the gate. Every problem (like discovering a water pipe when digging the post hole) was met with a creative solution, and the end result is a fabulous gate & post that will probably outlast me! Gary kept me informed step-by-step & did an amazing job! Will definitely use his services again!

We had two landscaping water features in our yard. They were water falls with accompanying open ponds. Both ponds had water leaks and the pond in the front patio had a significant water leak in the plastic makeup water like (a leak under the flagstone. Larry totally remodeled both ponds to make them pond less water features. He resurfaced both ponds, reworked all of the plumbing and repaired all of the flagstone. He also treated the flagstone to protect it in the future and to enhance the look. He was on time, on budget and a great guy to work with. We will be having him do more yard and landscaping work this winter.

As it turns out, Ociel is helping us with a lot more than fence building! We haven't even gotten to the "fence" part yet, as he and his crew were able to do other things as well. They've raised our east side block wall by 24", reinstalling the brick caps on top, and the results are excellent. His crew is personable, in addition to being highly skilled, and they make sure everything is done RIGHT. Very, very nice fellows too. They'll also be raising the north wall, eventually the east wall (the "fence" part, which we may end up doing in block rather than wood), and helping to level the far back yard for an above-ground pool. These guys are great, and their prices are very competitive. Both my husband and I highly recommend them to anyone, and will certainly continue to use them in the future.

They are honest and don't try to charge, or over-charge, for maintenance like so many other pool companies have tried to do. They make our pool look beautiful every time, and all we have to do is enjoy it!

Robert Anderson came once a week for 4 weeks to maintain our small pool during our absence. The pool was equipped with automatic scrubber vacuum/skimmer (timer operated) and was super clean when we left. Robert's job was to clean pump filters, add necessary chemicals and water when needed and monitor equipment to verify all was working properly. The pool was full and still super clean when we returned, and when Robert checked in with us he reviewed with us everything he had done, including some o-ring and pressure release valve repairs (on older parts of the pump system) along with water quality checks, all verified with print-outs from the pool supply store that did the free water tests and sold him the new o-ring. He also took the time to show me exactly what he did, how to prevent the failure from happening again, what he would recommend for future best use of the new cleaning system and pump we had in place as well as the couple of "vintage" pieces that came with the pool when we bought the house 2 yrs ago. Robert presented us an itemized invoice that documented his charges for the weekly maintenance we had originally contracted for along with the cost of the new o-ring and his labor charges for repair work. He was very professional, very knowledgeable, very helpful, very reasonable and we would definitely hire him again!

I have a large back yard area that Blue Mountain put pavers on. The workers were fantastic! They arrived on time everyday, ready to work. In addition to the pavers they repaired part of my concrete barrier wall, repositioned a pool fence, and created a drainage system to keep rain away from the house, and planted 2 new tree's for me. I have a large, heavy wooden shed on the property. They levered it up, put logs under it and moved it to a new location. After paving where it had been sitting I decided I'd like it moved back to where it came from. There was no problem with it at all. They work quickly & clean up as they go. I will definitely be hiring them again for other projects. I did ask for a special design element in the paving stones and while it wasn't exactly what I wanted, it was pretty much what I explained to the man laying the stones. We just had different ideas about what a BIG spiral would look like. I'm happy with what he did, just wish it was bigger. The price's were fair and reasonable, the quality is outstanding and the workers very professional. What more could you ask for? Bravo gentlemen.

Ron P. Enterprises built a chain link fence for me. It is good quality, well built, and keeps my dogs in, and I am very pleased with it. While working on my fence he noticed a leak in my main water line and mentioned that they could fix that for me too. I scheduled an appointment for that and it was done within a few days at a very reasonable rate. Great communication, great to work with. I keep this company's phone number on my fridge and they will be my first call next time I have a project.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
    • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
    • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
    • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

    • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
    • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
    • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
    • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
    • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
    • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
    • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
    • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
