Galina is helping my son learn Spanish and she is wonderful! She is prompt, warm, friendly, speaks several languages and so knows how to teach kids trying to learn another language. He looks forward to his lessons with Galina!
My 3rd grader enjoyed John's approach, she was happy that he actually helped her to learn some new concepts in the very first visit (abstract nouns - hope, wisdom, joy - "something you cannot put into the box and sell", as John puts it:)! We just started the lessons, so more updates to come. Also, I liked that he came with a work book right away - so I did not have to worry that we have no material to work with.
Every class I took with Dan Wekselgreene was comprehensive. Mr. Wekselgreene did an excellent job with his lesson plans and made sure all students understood the material. All his class work and home work was designed by him which makes it even better. His math lessons were clear, thoroughly, and fun. Also, he was responsive of his students. Always available to meet with them during, before, and after school. He is a teacher committed to his work and students. More than a math teacher he was a great mentor and advisor. Mr. Wekselgreene is a positive, patient, and compassionate man. I saw him face teenage negativity with a smile and hope. He is a great role model and a hardworking math teacher. I can say with confidence that anyone that comes across Mr. Wekselgreene will be lucky to have him as a teacher, mentor, and/or advisor.
Indeed, there are a litany of factors that shape the character of a good tutor -- patience, active listening, and easy-to-understand explanations, to name a few. George embodies all these qualities and more. Last year for about three months, I reached out to George to ask if he could be my personal tutor on AP Calculus AB, as I was hoping to review concepts for my upcoming AP Calc BC course. Now let me tell you, there are teachers who teach just for a job position. There are others, however, who teach because they truly want to see a student thrive and improve. George is certainly the latter. As a learner whose brain necessitates slow & broken-down explanations, I discovered that George was able to transform even the most challenging topics -- like optimization and Riemann sums -- into fun and engaging activities that I actually started to look forward to. I can even count certain tutoring sessions where we went up to 3, 4, or 5 hours into the evening, just so that I could 110% grasp the material. He even answered questions in his own free time, through text and email, which further confirms his authentic passion for seeing students grow. In part due to his beneficial teachings, I have learned to abandon the mindblock that "I will never be good at STEM" and surprisingly have decided to double major in an engineering major, in addition to the humanities. George is one of the greatest tutors I have encountered, and I completely stand behind everything I stated.
John Bertinetti helped me study for the GMAT exam over the summer of 2017 with concentrated sessions to review GMAT Quant. John got me started on a study path by sharing info about the best study resources for my problem areas, and would meet with me once or twice a week to go over key Quant problems that I needed help solving. John is an ideal tutor for students who are good at keeping themselves on track without a structured curriculum. Great value, flexible scheduling, and clear explanations of problems are all huge wins with him. About halfway through the summer, I realized that I needed a structured class and more discipline to keep myself on schedule, so I supplemented my study sessions with John with an independent online class with a live teacher. Key lessons w/John: John is all about understanding the concepts behind a problem before sharing tricks; his method is great for learners like me who need to understand the math conceptually and don't want to just memorize formulas. We did a lot of work on combinatorics and probability, which were my challenge areas. He was a great and affordable supplemental resource for me beyond the class. Results: I went from a 580 on my Manhattan GMAT diagnostic to a 730 score on the actual GMAT after 3 months of light study followed by 2 months of intense study.
Aji is an exceptional tutor. He looks at the individual needs of a student and prepares lessons and homework designed specifically for that student. He has been helping my daughter prepare for the SAT in math. He is patient and excellent at explanations. After each session, my daughter tells me that she has learned so much. He is well prepared and knowledgeable. He is also a wonderful, kind person and we enjoy having him in our home. Highly recommend!
Minok is an excellent math tutor for my daughter. Beginning of the school year my daughter has had some difficulties with her trig-algebra 2 class. She would like to improve her grade and prepare for finals. Minok came in fully prepared. I really appreciate that she genuinely cares about the student and she spent a lot of time preparing her class ahead of the time. Usually she will check with my daughter with what is on going in her class, and by time of tutoring she came with extra materials and practice to help the kids. By doing tutorial with her once a week, She was able to help my daughter improve her grade from B to an A and so far in the new trimester my daughter has been getting all As in her math test. We are very happy with her and will highly recommend her to all my friends.
As a colleague of Shanna Miller, I was able to observe her creative and challenging lessons. Her passion for teaching and her caring is amazing! I would hire her to tutor my child in a minute!
I have been taking Spanish lessons from Ms. Price. She is incredibly personable, knowledgeable and helpful. My Spanish skills have soared since I've started with her. Very friendly, she is an excellent teacher. She knows where weak points are and knows how to explain advanced subjects in a way which is very understandable. I am definitely going to continue lessons and I highly recommend Ms. Price to anyone who is seeking to improve their language skills.
Michael is an absolute wizard at providing essay help. He makes the process effortless, and surprisingly really fun and motivating. He has a unique skill to understand his students quickly and convert their experiences to meaningful stories that showcase their personality and positive characteristics. Michael's true gift is his ability to create inciting stories. I can not describe how highly I would recommend Michael for essay help. Furthermore, he was extremely professional and respectful of my time. Michael helped me write an essay for business school. He helped me with every single step of the way. We first started with idea generation where we discussed things I could potentially write about. He then helped me pin point a story to tell, and worked to show me how concrete examples highlighted the major themes that I wanted to conveys to the reader. He then helped me build a very detailed outline that was perhaps the most valuable portion of our work together. I turned an initial draft along with pages on pages of ideas. Michael helped me re-write my ideas in exactly the way I wanted to get them across to the reader. Michael then continued to edit and condense my work while not sacrificing anything from my message. Michael found a way to help me turn my initial drafts, (that was in no shape to submit) into an a really great essay that I am very proud of. In the end I could not be more happy with Michael's work. Whether it is idea generation, building an outline, editing your writing, or making an essay read and simply sound better, this is the guy to go to.
Chris is an excellent teacher. I had a few other teachers before her, and I can say Chris is the best. I think she is also a good phycologist, because she finds right approach to every student. Her lessons are very effective. My 7 years old daughter knew no English at all. She was ready to go to local school just after 3-4 lessons with Chris, her vocabulary increased from zero to a few hundreds of words. I feel dramatic improvement in my English pronunciation after taking lessons with Chris. My accent was so strong that even waiters in McDonalds did not understand me. Now I speak freely, even over the phone, and I do it intuitively without thinking about how do I do it.
Bruno is a one on one tutor for pre-calculus for my junior in high school. His knowledge of the subject and his ability to share it with my daughter are exceptional. My daughter's class is struggling to learn the basics so Bruno is basically teaching my daughter the new concepts. She is able to understand it and complete all her homework after her time with Bruno. She also felt confident taking her first quiz after her tutoring sessions.
My son Tristan has always had a little bit of trouble adjusting to the learning pace in a classroom environment, but he is more than able to excel above and beyond what is expected of his age group. We signed up for AP calc last year and had a lot of trouble in our first couple months. Tristan began falling behind and dropping down in test scores because he was unable to grasp the methods that the teacher divulged in the short 50 minutes that were allotted for the advanced course. We signed Tristan up in the academic resource center at school with a classmate tutor, but his peers could only reiterate what they had learned from the same set of teachers. When he told me he wanted to drop down to the pre-calc class, which is considered the âstandardâ level for seniors, I realized we had to get serious about devoting some time outside of PALY to get him the help he really needed. He only wanted the AP course on his transcript if it made him more appealing to colleges, and not if it were simply going to weigh down his GPA. We found Misha online, and things started getting easier after Tristanâs first session. He noted that Misha was able to teach him the same problems with a completely different approach that seemed to just click for him. I was worried that this was going to be a problem with testing because teachers like to see a certain type of work on the paper that corresponds to what is taught in the classroom; the standardized way to solve an equation. I brought this up with Misha and he was very receptive to my concerns. He took the time to explain to my why Tristan benefitted from the style of solving that he was teaching him, which is something that no teacher has taken the time to do with me before. Every kidâs mind works differently, and therefore some concepts that are received well by one student, may be very difficult to grasp for another. There are different ways to visualize problems and Misha was teaching a personalized curriculum to each of his clients; something else that teachers with 30 students donât seem to be doing. I still wanted Tristan to be able to work the problem in the way that his textbook described, so Misha assured me that he would be able to get there with Tristan. Tristan used the methods that Misha was teaching to conceptually understand the math that he was learning. Misha also taught him how to apply that method that they worked on to what his teacher was using with all of the students. This is really what helped Tristan to keep up in class, and brought value to the time that he spent there as well, instead of just wasting time, confused, until he could get the one-on-one attention that he needed. Tristan can now look at an equation both ways, and choose which path is the most relevant to solve the problem with. This really gave him confidence and the actual drive to sit down and go through with a difficult problem, start to finish; a place I never thought we could reach at the beginning of the year. I cannot say enough positive praise about Misha. He has worked my son through the most difficult points of his education, and doesnât leave without giving me a snapshot of their progress for the day. Tristan also really seemed to look up to Misha and turned to him for help with college applications, which he was more than happy to help out with. Tristan is off at Santa Clara now, and told me that he still reaches out to Misha when is he is stuck on a problem!! I have Mishaâs personal number, and so does Tristan⦠thatâs just the type of tutor he is. Needless to say, I will be sending this tutor a little something extra for Christmas this year.
My daughter is quite pleased she has Namita as her tutor in geometry. Namita is very patient and takes her time in explaining homework assignments to my daughter. Her sessions helped her catch up with lessons she did not understand before which made her and I very happy. I will definitely recommend Namita to my friends.
Dhivya has been teaching my daughter Math over 3 years. My daughter has been excelling in math due to Dhivya thoughtfull lesson plans & passion for teaching. She is flexible, kind & has ton of patience teaching kids.
Darya tutored and advised me throughout my senior year of high school and my first year at college. Having Darya by my side throughout the stress of a year and a half journey has had a significant impact in my life. Although Darya's main responsibility was to tutor me for my Advanced Placement (AP) Literature class, she went above and beyond to what I expected of an English tutor. She helped me find my inner voice as a writer through tutoring me about grammar, organization, and vocabulary. She also helped boost my confidence as an underprivileged Latina studying in the STEM field as a computer science major at the University of California: Santa Cruz. I passed both my AP Government and AP Literature classes and tests which is significant because both required a heavy amount of analytical writing; I graduated high school with honors and with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA), 3.7, at any time of my academic career. One week before I was going to take my SAT for the third time, I mentioned to Darya that I was struggling understanding a large portion of the Math section of the test. To my surprise, she was thoroughly capable skilled in tutoring me in math, along with English. In less than seven days, Darya was able to successfully prepare me for my last SAT test; subsequently, my SAT score improved by more than 100 points. If we had more time to go through the preparation book, I could have further surpassed this amazing progress. Another aspect in which Darya supported me in my college application and preparation process was in guiding me to refine my college essays for both private and public universities: as a result, I was accepted to more than half of the colleges that I applied to. Finally, I am most grateful for Darya and her efforts towards my success because of the high number of scholarships that I received in the second semester of my senior year in high school. Through Darya’s excellent editing and writing abilities, I was able to accumulate more than $200,000 in scholarship rewards from four different organizations. I could never have imagined this much triumph before meeting Darya; without these scholarship awards, I would have been forced to work during my breaks and during school to afford a college education. Now, all that I have to worry about is learning as much as I can while I am at UCSC. On account of my strong achievements in less than a year with Darya, I still utilize the many tips and lessons that she has instilled in me. As a result of this, I excelled in my classes at UCSC with a cumulative GPA of 3.6. Because of my outstanding academic success in the first quarter of college, I was exclusively invited by the university to apply to the College Scholars Program; this two-year program selects 20 students out of about 200 students applying from each college at UCSC to help give them meaningful academic challenges. Not only do I recognize Darya as one of the most significant people in my life because of my solid academic accomplishments, but also due to the genuine passion she holds to be sure that her tutees succeed. As her tutee, she constantly reminded me of my own abilities to encourage my confidence. We are still in contact today which further demonstrates her enthusiasm for her tutees. She is evidently benevolent, motivated, and intelligent, and I highly recommend her tutoring and guidance talents to any student who is fortunate enough to be her tutee.
Dylan is an amazing tutor who not only teaches our son academics but real life lessons too. Dylan takes the time to get to know his students, their strengths, weaknesses and their passions. We highly recommend him!
Angela does the best job of explaining concepts for AP/SAT if you are trying to learn something outside of school. We did our tutoring over the computer, but I actually found it more engaging than in person. For example, I was confused about cos (180degrees), because I hadn't learned about it in school yet. Angela's explanation also made 10x more sense than what my math teacher would say. Now I FINALLY understand how to find cos (180degrees)!
Youlian's lessons are very well organized and planned, and she has an absolutely fantastic ability to explain the nuances and subtleties of day-to-day Mandarin. Every lesson includes listening comprehension, reading comprehension (I'm just using Pinyin for now but she covers Hanzi as well), and conversation practice, and Youlian always provides me with very helpful feedback.
In the beginning, I was really afraid of talking to others in English because I know that I can’t speak English well. However, after some lessons, I become more and more confident and fell in love with the lessons. I tried speaking to others and they answered me. This greatly encouraged me.
Sylvia is tutoring my daughters in Spanish. They never had Spanish before, and when they moved to a new school, the level of Spanish is very advance for someone who never had the lessons. Sylvia works with them in getting them up to speed. In a short time, both my children had become comfortable in following the lesson at school, and I have noticed that both of them have made quite significant improvements. My oldest daughter tells me that once she is comfortable with her Spanish, she wants to start French with Sylvia. I am sure that if either of my kids need tutoring in Math, Sylvia would be the one we go to. If your child or children need extra help in academic, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you call Sylvia. My children are very happy with how she teaches. Sylvia is also opens to different approaches in teaching. If my kids want more challenge, all they have to do is tell Sylvia and she will give them challenging lessons.
