Steven is the ultimate professional! Arrived promptly (you can even track his travel to home/business). Very professional, courteous and efficient with all the necessary tools (and then some) to install my flat screen TV. Move the furniture and glassware to hook up the cable box. Move everything back and cleaned up thoroughly after the project was completed. I was so impressed with him and his knowledge, that we discussed my future home projects (bathroom remodel, cabinets installation, closet organizers and ceiling fan/light installation). He took the time to explain the scope of work, potential challenges and cost estimates of each project. And for the record, the prices he quoted was VERY reasonably priced. He and the White Residential Services will definitely be my future "GO-TO" Pro when I need home improvements. He definitely earned my business and I know he will do the same for you. I give him my highest recommendations!! Thank You, Steven and ThumbTack for an easy transaction!

Not knowing what thumbtack was exactly, I put out a request for cabinet assembly/installation. Within a day I decided to use a former contractor for that work but Jose had responded quickly for the job. I noticed on his list of specialties that he also specialized in concrete so I asked him if he would bid on a patio project I had in mind. Not only was his bid 30% lower than two other licensed contractors, but he was willing to do extra work for just cost of materials. His level of communication was always good and timely, he always showed up at the time he promised, he accomplished his daily commitments and goals on time, his helpers were tenacious and diligent, he cleaned up the yard every day, he had a team of workers who each knew their required tasks at hand, everyone worked long hours until their duties were completed, and needless to say, the patio slab came out perfect as I can tell. I am a retired handyman and I have never seen a better performance at a job site. After the job was completed, Jose came back the next day to power wash the concrete and because I couldn't be available for the next couple of days, Jose waited patiently and trusted me to pay him his balance owed him when we could finally get together. Jose has obviously impressed me with his professional demeanor, sincerity in his desire to satisfy his customers, and conscientious strive for perfection. I found his work ethic second to none. I will use his service again in the future. I am a difficult person to please and many contractors have found me to be too demanding but with Jose he was always at least one step ahead of me. Jose knows concrete. Signed, Dan Ross

I waited a long time before finally deciding to refinish a few heirloom pieces that have been in my family for years. I started out by giving Scott 1 piece because I didn't know what to expect. Scott was extremely knowledgeable, professional and made me feel at ease. I was so happy with my table that I ended up having Scott and his associate Keith refinish 3 other heirloom pieces (coffee table; bakers cabinet and a buffet). The pieces look like new and thanks to his great work they will continue to be in our family for years to come. I highly recommend him.

We moved into a bank owned home, kitchen was overall nice at first glance, but then realized there was grime on cabinet doors that had been gone over with wood finish. When we cleaned, the bare wood was left around all the door handles. Cabinets were in decent enough to shape so we did not want to replace. Sam was able to refinish them and they look amazing compared to their prior condition. Less than half the cost of new cabinets!

Kent was meticulous! Our new oceanfront vacation condo looked ok in photos but had old warped waterlogged cabinet boxes, peeling contact paper in the stained drawers, no place for a trash bin, exterior hinges and door panels that didn't line up. Not good for such a high end property! Replacing cabinet doors and drawers with Kent cost only $7500 compared to estimates of $40K+ for remodeling! Kent took his time and measured, and re-measured to make sure everything was exactly right. Then when the new drawers and door fronts came, he worked very carefully to make sure they all lined up correctly. Not an easy feat!! Thank you Kent!

Enjoyed working with Thomas from the original plans, revisions and installation. The cabinet from plans to installation was completed on time and on budget, which is unusual in today environment. Thomas came back after 2 weeks to make sure that all was conforming with what he had promised and to make a few adjustments that were needed to the cabinet doors after all had settled. I would hire Thomas and his "INNOVATIVE" company again for any future cabinet needs. Thank you Thomas; we need more of your type of company and work!!!

Steve was excellent to work with and very knowledgeable about installing my IKEA sektion cabinets and making it work in my space. Everything came out great and would highly recommended him for kitchen cabinet installs. He added some custom work to the cabinets that made them more sturdy than the way IKEA would have installed.

Sergio met with me regarding my project and then provided me with detailed drawings and a bid. His price was reasonable and his crew was polite and efficient. He also gave me ideas that I hadn't thought of such as how to add lights to my cabinet. I have worked with another cabinet maker before but I always had to have the cabinets painted on site. But Sergio delivered my cabinets already beautifully painted and ready to install. I love my new library corner in my bedroom!

I'll start with the good. The guys who arrived to do the work--3 cabinet/counter installs, 3 lighting installs, 3 toilets, 2 new floors, 3 paint colors--were all good men, with the primary contractor being exceptional (Javi, I believe). Communication was an issue at times, but we worked around it as best we could. Work ethic was strong, they were respectful and careful, even when I requested touch up after touch up. And, when I decided last minute to have the showers painted, they called a friend and worked around him. The items selected all came from the Pykles showroom, and with my budget constraints, I didn't have much choice, but what we got is still very nice. We went a tiny bit over budget once I realized brushed nickel fixtures weren't included, but they found them for me to save me having to buy them myself and made sure I got all the counters I wanted. Quality of workmanship and products is high. And my baths look amazing! Now, the bad. I'm not sure how it happened, but somehow the cabinets that arrived for my 3 baths were not the right ones, so we were off to a bad start on the first day. We had one that was the right size, but the drawers were on the wrong side for the plumbing, so we had to make adjustments. They told me they would be installed on Tuesday, then Wednesday, but they didn't actually install the other two until Friday and the last one on Saturday (I at least had one toilet and one shower the whole time tho--whew!). That whole ordeal set us back almost two days, so what was originally going to be a 4-day install took 5.5 :( The last day, Saturday, was a scramble to get them done quickly enough to make it to another job, and there was a miscommunication with the crew chief, but we worked it out, apologies all around. The chief came back later in the day to take care of a few quick things, and he'll be back later to handle the absolute last thing--a soap dish that couldn't be mounted without damaging the new shower paint. I appreciated the extra concern. I've never had a contractor show up when they say in the morning, leave when they say in the evening, or finish as planned, and these guys struggled with that a bit too. I give 4-4.5 stars because of the miscommunications and minor delays in what was otherwise a good remodel.

Ali did our kitchen remodeling.  He removed all the old cabinets, took care of any issues with the wall such as holes, patching, painting, installed the new cabinets, ran the piping, installed the sink, garbage disposal, and kitchen lighting and electrical.  We were very happy with his work.  He is very polite and professional.  He listened to what we wanted and did a very clean job.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

        How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
