I had a great time with Veronique last Sunday. Starting from the floor exercises to the actual swim lesson. She taught me a lot of things that I haven't seen or learn from the other instructors in the past. Looking forward to work with her in perfecting my swim skills :)
First of all, the best thing about her lesson was showing me how much fun it is to swim in open water. Luckily I had Suzies private lesson to introduce me to swimming in AP. She taught me the basics, such as how to enter the water and be at ease in a cold water. Also, she gave me clear, practical advice for my goal of swimming from Alcatraz: starting from a boat entry, directions to AP, pacing, and coping with cramps, choppy water, etc. She always provides encouragement, as well as tells me how to improve. As a beginner, I learned many techniques in a short time, but more importantly she teaches how great open-water swimming is! Thank you, Suzie.
Exactly what you need and then some in a very supportive, chill environment. I have been working with Conrad Sherby. I started occasionally with him 3 years ago at the big, shiny gym (that I still appreciate). If you continue to take Conrad's suggestions on a regular basis, you can make real progress, injury free, in multiple physical and mental facets. The guy is extremely mature, educated, worldly and is helpful on many levels. Most importantly, he LISTENS to what you want to achieve. He seems to like clients who have had injuries, or difficult biologies, and to work with them to make them more successful than they thought they could be. I have never felt judged by him if I don't do what I agreed to. I just know I will not reach my goals in the anticipated time if I don't deliver. My main problem is to make myself work as hard when I am on my own as paying a trainer for more than a couple of times a week is not realistic. Some advantages of Conrad are that he has a strong background in nutrition not just in exercise physiology and he can help with swimming off-site if you make arrangements. At the facility, I recognize a lot of the trainers as the better ones from other local facilities. My observation is there are all levels of clients from teenagers working out their excess testosterone to much older people looking to maintain their health. The environment is very relaxed and respectful. Plenty of equipment but of the weights, cables, balls, kettle bell variety. It doesn't have lots of single muscle LifeFitness or Nautilus equipment as that is not their approach. Functional, multi-muscle exercises is the philosophy. You don't pay a facility fee; you pay what you work out with your trainer. The facility is covered. It is extremely clean. There are bathrooms that double as a changing area but there is no shower. It is not a spa type gym. It's a training/workout place that smells nice and is clean and well equipped. I like my time there and have lots of respect for Conrad and am impressed by the other trainers I see working with their clients.
Scott has been training me at the YMCA for my first triathlon. Since it is my first one and I don't know anything, he has been super helpful. He is very knowledgable about body mechanics and form on the bike, running, swimming and strength training, which is helpful in improving your performance and in preventing injuries. Scott is also has a deep understanding of nutrition and how that helps your training. He is also very friendly and helpful with any questions.
Alyssa is a great swim teacher. In one summer, she transformed my four year old son from someone who was afraid to even enter the water to someone who loves cannon balling into the swimming pool. She focuses on safety skills and makes the class fun for the kids. Highly recommend!
I have been taking adult swim lessons for the past few months and have been very pleased with Maggie as my instructor. She customized the learning to focus on not only swimming efficiency, but also techniques that are critical for when I am in the ocean body boarding. Maggie very good at explaining the how and why and provides good practice tips. The prices are very fair and the ambiance makes you feel like you at ease. It never feels like you are rushed and they also allow practice when there are no lessons.
I highly recommend Ara as a swimming instructor. Especially if you have a scared or reluctant lil swimmer. She was patient and very experienced. She's the best book her right away.
Coach Brett was fun, patient, and encouraging! He explained all the moves clearly, helped me understand what to correct each time, and was very supportive when I hit well. He is a former pro, and clearly loves the game. He was also great about working through logistics and scheduling to set this up. I'm looking forward to more lessons with him!
Excellent swim instruction for my 5.5 year old. Very technique oriented yet in a fun and friendly way. She won't learn any bad habits and is learning the strokes in the proper manner. My daughter can not wait to go back for swim lessons every week!
I've been swimming with Fana for over five years now and she's awesome! This isn't your standard drill and kill group. She works on stroke technique to help avoid injury and mixes up the strokes to keep the workouts interesting. As a result, my swim times are faster and I haven't missed workouts due to sore shoulders etc.
She is very nice and very competent
Excellent swim instructor. I am a swim instructor, and I learned some new ways to teach swimming skills to students through Jean.
Bari (Barry) was patient, kind, and experienced. His focus on safety was great. Bari was really detailed in teaching me, breathing techniques and new swimming strokes.
