Jeff is very nice, humorous and friendly. He is my english tutor right now who is extremely patient on me and pointed out those mistakes I made on grammars while I was speaking. In addition, he is quiet knowledgeable and good at speaking Chinese which is very helpful for me as a Chinese student. I really appreciate that I could found Jeff as my tutor on Thumbtack! I am taking French lessons with Tara and I am really enjoying it. I initially met with Tara for lessons for my children, but after meeting with her, I decided to take lessons myself. She is friendly, caring, and patient- especially with me, someone who has zero knowledge of French. I also appreciate that Tara reminds me of the big picture; why I’m doing something for myself, and how it will enrich my life and add to the experience. Merci!

I have been taking Spanish lessons from Ms. Price. She is incredibly personable, knowledgeable and helpful. My Spanish skills have soared since I've started with her. Very friendly, she is an excellent teacher. She knows where weak points are and knows how to explain advanced subjects in a way which is very understandable. I am definitely going to continue lessons and I highly recommend Ms. Price to anyone who is seeking to improve their language skills.

Tim helped my wife with the basic English for about a month. I liked his approach, he is very patient and dedicated . He was always on time, he had a lot of prepared material, and he was well organized. Compared to other professors that we were in contact I believe that his dedication and effort is very price sensitive. Overall it was very good experience.

Danielle was my first English teacher in a language school in Brazil back in 2004 when I was just 12. I remember her touching words on the first day of class: “I’m here as a friend of yours not only as a teacher”. She tried to have a close relationship with her students making them feel comfortable and more confident in class. Learning English with her was very fun and motivational, her ability to share what she knows about the language with students is so inspirational that I got in love with the English language and I have decided to become an English teacher as well. She is always willing to learn more and more that I have her as model.

Darya tutored and advised me throughout my senior year of high school and my first year at college. Having Darya by my side throughout the stress of a year and a half journey has had a significant impact in my life. Although Darya's main responsibility was to tutor me for my Advanced Placement (AP) Literature class, she went above and beyond to what I expected of an English tutor. She helped me find my inner voice as a writer through tutoring me about grammar, organization, and vocabulary. She also helped boost my confidence as an underprivileged Latina studying in the STEM field as a computer science major at the University of California: Santa Cruz. I passed both my AP Government and AP Literature classes and tests which is significant because both required a heavy amount of analytical writing; I graduated high school with honors and with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA), 3.7, at any time of my academic career. One week before I was going to take my SAT for the third time, I mentioned to Darya that I was struggling understanding a large portion of the Math section of the test. To my surprise, she was thoroughly capable skilled in tutoring me in math, along with English. In less than seven days, Darya was able to successfully prepare me for my last SAT test; subsequently, my SAT score improved by more than 100 points. If we had more time to go through the preparation book, I could have further surpassed this amazing progress. Another aspect in which Darya supported me in my college application and preparation process was in guiding me to refine my college essays for both private and public universities: as a result, I was accepted to more than half of the colleges that I applied to. Finally, I am most grateful for Darya and her efforts towards my success because of the high number of scholarships that I received in the second semester of my senior year in high school. Through Darya’s excellent editing and writing abilities, I was able to accumulate more than $200,000 in scholarship rewards from four different organizations. I could never have imagined this much triumph before meeting Darya; without these scholarship awards, I would have been forced to work during my breaks and during school to afford a college education. Now, all that I have to worry about is learning as much as I can while I am at UCSC. On account of my strong achievements in less than a year with Darya, I still utilize the many tips and lessons that she has instilled in me. As a result of this, I excelled in my classes at UCSC with a cumulative GPA of 3.6. Because of my outstanding academic success in the first quarter of college, I was exclusively invited by the university to apply to the College Scholars Program; this two-year program selects 20 students out of about 200 students applying from each college at UCSC to help give them meaningful academic challenges. Not only do I recognize Darya as one of the most significant people in my life because of my solid academic accomplishments, but also due to the genuine passion she holds to be sure that her tutees succeed. As her tutee, she constantly reminded me of my own abilities to encourage my confidence. We are still in contact today which further demonstrates her enthusiasm for her tutees. She is evidently benevolent, motivated, and intelligent, and I highly recommend her tutoring and guidance talents to any student who is fortunate enough to be her tutee.

Anna provided me a good base of practical Chinese skills that I used successfully in my business travel and meetings. I'm certainly not anywhere close to fluent, but I can exchange polite greetings and order meals, and that was my goal. My Chinese counterparts appreciated my efforts with their language. I'm also considering having Anna tutor my middle school boy who has recently started Chinese at his school

About

I currently attend UC Davis and am employed as a tutor at a top tutoring company that only hires individuals with exceptional tutoring skills, a top SAT score, and a high GPA. I have spent over 500 hours tutoring and received additional tutor training while working at a nonprofit for literacy for 4 years. In addition, I am a founding member of a nonprofit organization that provides tutoring to underprivileged children in various subjects. I provide experienced, individualized tutoring to individuals that need help in language arts, essay writing, and grammatical skills as well as scoring high on their SAT reading and writing, AP English, and AP literature tests that is time efficient. I can also work separately or together as a college adviser in order to perfect your child's undergraduate application to any of the universities or colleges, guide them in creating the most attractive application, and help them produce an unrivaled essay. As a current University of California, Davis student, I personally took the AP English, AP literature, and SAT exams recently (2 years ago), so I have an advantage in knowing exactly what the current tests ask of students as well as what strategies should be learned in order to achieve a score that is highly desirable and sought after by top universities. I know the right methods and tactics to get your child a better score; guaranteed. I also understand what most colleges are looking for in a student, and I can guide your child in writing brilliant essays to get noticed in the midst of tens of thousands of applicants. I have years of teaching experiences from my job as an editor at my high school's award-winning school newspaper, in addition to working at a nonprofit in San Jose and learning exactly how to teach English effectively. My education began in elementary school at the private school Challenger School, where I learned from the best grammar and literature teachers to build my foundation in English. Later on, I went on to attend Leland High School where I was a member of the number one speech and debate team in the nation and first medalist of various speech tournaments, President of the National Honor Society (organization that connects academically achieving students with volunteer opportunities in the community), volunteer of over 500+ hours from tutoring underprivileged children in low income areas, page editor for the award-winning school newspaper The Charger Account, and winner of numerous accolades for my involvement in the community including: Leland High School's Jefferson Award (given to one student once a year for exemplary work in the community) and Senior Recognition Award for Academic Work and Involvement in the Community. My SAT scores in critical reading and writing rank in the 96th percentile in the nation, and I graduated in 2013 in order to attend University of California, Davis as a managerial economics major. I work as a part time tutor to make extra money for college and help fund a non-profit for which I used my expertise in writing to create a business plan for, and I started the organization to help underprivileged children that go to schools with poor reading comprehension in order to provide them with free tutoring in writing and reading. My style of teaching involves importance placed on the basics of grammar, writing, and effective test taking; I believe that once a student has this foundation down, any question on the SAT or AP exams is completely approachable and easy to solve. In juxtaposition with my own personal test-taking strategies, I also implement the same strategies taught at many of the top SAT prep centers to ensure that your child is getting thorough tutoring sessions. For students that need help in English or writing, I lay down the basics for your child, show ways of developing creativity, and teach them how to write effectively and well. I work with your child's talents and provide a very personalized experience that changes dynamically in order to achieve your child's highest potential and give the best tutoring possible.
