Debbie did an amazing Thanksgiving meal for a client of mine. She tailored the menu to suit their needs. She dropped it off for them and it was a wonderful success. Debbie is awesome to work with, I found her professional, thoughtful, and efficient! My clients and their family said the food was delicious! We look forward to working with Debbie again!

Had a Christmas Party for 30 people in my home. Food was prepared on-site. As guests arrived first and caterers second, the kitchen was full of guests nibbling on appetizers. Alisa and her assistant blended right in working around guests. The food was delicious! All guests commented about how wonderful the food was and how pleasant Alisa and her assistant were. Clean-up was provided, and they did a great job at that too. It made enjoying guests and myself fantastic! Planning for the event was seamless, organized and expeditious! When I have another party for my 50th this year, Passionate Plates and Alisa will be on "speed-dial"!

Boris did a great job with our wedding. The food was great, his staff/family is awesome and he made plenty for everyone, we had so much left over. Also did I mention that the food was great. Work with my vegan wife to make sure he had options for everyone. Thank you Boris for making our day the best ever.

David and Cowabunga Barbecue recently catered my wife and I's wedding for 150 people! They did a fantastic job! Many people have told us since how much they enjoyed the Mac and cheese and pulled pork and how it was the best wedding food they have ever had. David is very professional and super easy to deal with which is invaluable when you are planning a wedding and dealing with so many vendors. We used his full service package which was very reasonable for what it was and made our life very easy knowing the food was "handled" Hands down I would use cowabunga bbq again for any event or wedding. 5 stars!

I had a fantastic experience with Kincy Catering. All of the food dishes were great! The ribs were tender and juicy and had a very good flavor. My wife especially enjoyed the smoked chicken. Kincy also served a delicious macaroni and cheese for one of the side dishes that was a perfect complimant to the meal. One of the biggest selling points to Kincy Catering is the variety of different cuisines they offer, from traditional Soul food to Mexican and Chinese. They simingly can cater to all your request. I highly recommend Kincy Catering and i will defiantly use them in the future.

Wanting to learn to cook lower calorie food that still had great flavor, I hired Zac to come to my home and teach in our kitchen. My husband is our (excellent) cook, I am not a cook (at fifty-something years old), presenting a bit of a challenge. Rising to the occasion, Zac planned a meal that read like the menu at French Laundry! Panic! There was no way I could prepare this meal. Zac said...Way! He met me at Sonoma Market to introduce me to fresh everything, not packaged anything! Back at our kitchen, the magic began and WOW! Probably one of the most delicious dinners I've ever had at home, and certainly rivaling 5 star restaurants. Our cooking and dining experience was nothing short of superb and better yet, not a dollop of butter or a drop of cream was used to create the fantastic soup, salad, and complex main course. Through Zac's exceptional knowledge of herbs and spices, he taught me to create extraordinary flavors to enhance the food, and not over power it. It was a brilliant evening of cooking! Zac is easy going, yet very assured, and his ability to communicate is second to none. Remarkable job by a talented young man who will be continuing to educate us in the kitchen and most assuredly catering events for us. Bravo, Zac...Bravo!

About

We are very responsive to inquiries and changes. When a guest sends us a request we respond in less than 24 hours the majority of the time. Many caterers get their food from their freezer, we make the majority of our items from scratch. This makes our food taste better. Helping guests create events they are proud of. The sense of satisfaction we get when we're done with a job knowing we helped to make someone's day is the best!

About

Carol's Creations is a starter company primary planned for bakery; however, my love for cooking, baking, etc. has lead me to expand my focus to include all areas of food preparation. I am extremely confident that my diverse culmination of recipes will excite even the most finicky of taste buds. I guarantee it! So, please give me a try. You have everything to gain. That is everything but weight, unless that is your desired goal.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
