MARK GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND!! This review is long overdue but I just finished watching the edited and raw footage that Mark has sent us and just...WOW!! I knew he did so much on the day of BY HIMSELF, but the footage was so great. He got so much detail! I hired Mark as a wedding present for my sister and I KNOW she won't be disappointed! He got so much that we didn't even think of mentioning to him to include. This man knows exactly what he is doing! Mark was great from the beginning! From being able to film my sister's wedding at 2 weeks notice after a last minute cancellation, to his excellent communication and suggestions for my sister's wedding, to his patience on the day of the wedding and being able to adjust to every last minute change. You can tell that this cinematographer has experience doing this and he knows exactly what to expect and what questions to ask when you are lost. EVERYONE was so pleased to have him at the wedding!! The guests thought it was so cool to have a DRONE at the wedding!! I only paid Mark for four hours but the wedding ceremony was a little behind schedule and he STILL suggested going to the reception to get the introduction of the Bride and Groom. This man was so amazing. He asked all the right questions and even asked if we wanted to get footage of the bride and groom reading each other letters in their hotel room before the ceremony, and that sparked the idea of having them add that to their wedding day itinerary. THEY LOVED THE IDEA and it CAME OUT SO BEAUTIFUL! Mark seems like the kind of man that has seen it all and done it all when it comes to weddings. He blended in so well with every setting. He knew exactly what to say in each situation and other times, you didn't know he was there because he was working and blending in so well! The footage Mark sent us transported us back to the day of the wedding. My family loved it so much and are still talking about Mark and his great work. THANK YOU SO MUCH, MARK! Each time I talk about my sister's wedding, I mention you and the detail you put into everything! You were even great at following up with me after the wedding and printing the DVD's and DVD cases with photos from the wedding, SO GREAT! My sister loves every bit of it! She was so happy with all the little details you captured! Thank you! Thank you!

I will update this review after I get the finished product from Grant, but I didn't want to wait to give him a positive review. Grant was able to work my wedding on very short notice after another videographer backed out. He was communicative, friendly, and accommodating before the event as we were negotiating our contract, and he was super easy to work with the day of. Grant worked well with our photographers and was able to get the footage he needed without getting in the way of pictures. He was extremely professional, laid back, and fun to be around, all at the same time. A rare combination. Again, I can't comment on the quality of his work just yet, but I can say that Grant was a pleasure to work with.

Charles and Neema Media worked with us to create a wedding video that was just as exquisite, warm and full of love as our perfect Asheville, NC wedding weekend! My wife and I watch the film over and over as a way to experience those two days in a way that we weren't able to at the time of the actual event. The moments Charles captures and the way he navigated through the venue and events alongside our friends and families was, without hyperbole, simply ethereal! After watching the film, he seemed to be, if not all places at all times, at least at the RIGHT place at all times. His choice of varied angles, points of view and other cinematographic techniques allow this film to tell our wedding story as only he and Neema Media could! We could not be happier with our choice of hiring Charles to create this special film for us and our families!

Tiffany is so sweet, professional, fun, and overall amazing!! The minute we talked on the phone for the first time, I knew she would be perfect for our wedding vision. Her experience is also something that stood out to me over other cinematographers. She is also extremely affordable for A+ work. So thankful for her patience with my crazy family and her ability to stay calm when things were crazy and stressful. I appreciate all of her ideas and I am so excited to see the video!!

I highly recommend Garry for his knowledge and creativity. He is always a pleasure to work with and will add ideas on the best ways to present any story. We worked together in both San Francisco and Los Angeles covering major news stories and feature story assignments. He is always well prepared and very knowledgable technically as a camera operator. At KTLA Ch.5 TV, Los Angeles, we won an emmy for our coverage of the 1st Interstate Bank fire. Garry did a great job of live coverage at the building which was burning while glass was falling out above us. He was able to get amazing pictures of the fire and we were able to speak with survivors who escaped the inferno. Working at CNN, San Francisco, we spent hours in a helicopter during a storm chasing a hot air balloon which crossed the Pacific attempting to set a round the world record but crashed on a northern California mountain. We had to jump out from the skid because the coptor could not land and spent a miserable rain filled wet day on the mountain where balloon pilot Rocky Aioki, the founder of Benni Hana restaurants, was rescued. Both of these stories were outstanding and Garry's work was far and away above average. Garry understands the intricacies of video and telling a story. Garry also looks after your costs and completes projects within your budget. Speak with him face to face, you'll like him. Thank you, Steve Lentz,

As a fellow director, I look for professionals who exhibit expertise and proficiency in their craft. From the first project I worked on with Tina things that most said were impossible were accomplished swiftly. This is also to say that my expectations were exceeded on each recursive account by Tina's uncanny ability to capture the exact vision which I once imagined. It is rare to see the image originally visualized on screen, but Tina delivers without fail. I have found this is not only due to her impeccable affinity for cinematography but also her unwavering charming and personable nature. She is hard working Producer, Director, and Cinematographer who accomplishes what she sets out to achieve with passion and quality.

I worked with Myron Parran on a project that I produced this summer entitled 'Sister, Sister, Sister.' Myron was very professional and he even introduced me to a lighting and a sound tech that were equally professional. The project was shot in Hollywood and Santa Monica with a newer director, and Myron proved to be very patient and informative--lending his ideas and suggestions to improve upon our initial shot list. Myron even volunteered to shoot the project on his red cam so that we could have an even better product. We shot long hours over the weekend and even did a quick move to a new location within one of the shooting days. Myron and his team disassembled and reassembled quickly enough for us to take advantage of our new location and increase the overall production value. I would recommend Myron to anyone and everyone. He was our rock.

My background in cinematography for top commercials and in features allow me to bring the best possible imagery to the client's project. I love the challenges every project brings , I love what I do and it never feels like a job.

I've worked with accomplished directors as well as Oscar winning actors as Director of Photography. The training I've acquired through these experiences have allowed me the chance to have an edge on my peers. I simply love to shoot. I am truly living my dream and fortunate enough to have found something that I was talented in, that also brings me great happiness. I enjoy working with and meeting new people often, composing a story through my camera, and delivering a product to the client that brings about a genuine smile. There is nothing better than creating something for the client that exceeds what they had imagined.

My name is Janine Sides. I am a cinematographer, camera operator and gaffer. I have a diverse body of work consisting of live-action films, music videos, commercials, documentaries and photojournalism.

I am a DJ, producer, editor, and cinematographer. I offer motion graphics and photography. I do everything. As a DJ, I strive for great music selection, feeling the vibe, and a professional attitude. I know when to keep the party going hard. I also know when to chill things out to give everyone a break. As an editor, I understand rhythm and pace very well. I am able to convey emotions by the type of imagery shown and the sounds that complement it. I'm well versed in all types of media formats (short films, documentaries, music videos, commercials, Instagram, social media, etc.). As a cinematographer, I was taught by an amazing teacher who has won awards for videos from N'Sync, 2Pac, Sigur Ros, the list goes on. I understand the techniques of lighting a person for a specific mood. I understand how camera placements, movements, and framing can evoke different emotions. I can take ideas that start in the brain and end on the screen.

I specialize in all kinds of productions: special events, commercials, infomercials, corporate videos, music videos, documentary, feature films and short films. When you hire me, not only do the project, I get involved in it. Is budget your problem? Let's talk. It is my belief that images tell a story and help us understand our lives and the way we live. I seek not only moments, but feelings that endure and can teach us.

I am specializing in cinematography, video editing, and photographic services. I am a cinematographer and a video editor for feature films, short films, Web series, etc. I also specialize in portrait and live-event photography.

I'm a skilled technician and a strong craftsman, but I try to see myself as more than that. I try to be a creative partner on projects that I work on and bring a sense of visual storytelling to the job. I like the variety that it offers. Variety in terms of different types of projects, different visual styles, and locations/environments.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
