I really enjoy working out at Shape up Studio. Gym: Very clean. No bad odors. They don't try to give you heat stroke by keeping it as a sweat box inside. There are clorox wipes everywhere. My trainer Vince really takes pride in the gym, and is constantly wiping things down on his down time. The design of the gym gives you a comfortable feel and flow. The bathrooms are exquisite! They are always clean, smell fresh...I think it's the amazing hand soap, and they just got electric trash cans. Thy gym also has WiFi and televisions. They also have Pandora playing during your workouts. Intake: I have been working out at the studio since August 2014. Your first workout is a training assessment with Markshane. He takes all of your measurements & then gives you a personal training workout with himself to assess your strengths and weeknesses. Boi is that a tough workout! Then you discuss what schedule is best for you and what kind of training. 1 free visit with the on site massage therapist and nutritionist. I do both personal training (2 days/week) and "group" (3 days/week). I put quotes around "group" because the groups are always small. They vary from 2-8ppl, and the workout still feels like personal training!! My trainer Vince also trains the group and I love that everyday is different!!! I love my results and know that without personal training, I could never push myself to get results like my trainer does. The pushing is also subtle. One day your using 5lbs dumbells, then 8 lbs, then 10lbs. Or you're doing deadlifts with 20lbs, then 50lbs. It just happens...lol...no discussion. Also, if you're competitive like myself, working out in the group will motivate you to push harder; do more crunches or squats than the person next to you! Lol. FYI: group is Tue/Thur/Sat- 6pm/6pm/9am. My hope is that this will increase as more people sign up. Also, there's a crazy amount of digital clocks around the gym, unfortunately all of them have a different time.
Wes is so dedicated to each person he trains. He designs a workout to cater to each person needs and gradually increases the weight or reps. He strives to make you feel like you can do whatever task he puts in front of you, which I believe is most important. I definitely feel accomplished after his workouts.
I'm not the type of person that LOVES to work out, but I know it's one of those things I need to do. Training with Bo has ignited interest and motivation in me to work out and get moving. I do 1:1 with Bo 3 times a week, and I look forward to every single one of our sessions. Each session is different, challenging and dynamic. From conditioning, to resistance, to strength, to cardio, to balance... all is jammed in a single session. Bo's positive reinforcement, feedback and encouragement motivates me to push my body more and more.
I have been working with Burke for several years. I have had major back surgery and need to be careful when I exercise. He has done a great job of coming up with creative workouts, challenging sessions that have helped me lose 35 pounds, have great muscle tone and fit into my size 2 pants! (down from a size 12)
I started seeing Luke when my Chiropractor recommend I work out with him. I was suffering from severe neck and back pain from years of long distance cycling and sitting at a computer for 8+ hours a day for work. The combination of the two had severely changed my posture causing the discomfort and pain. I have also struggled for years with depression and anxiety. When I first began working out with Luke I weighed about 180 pounds, had a huge belly and hated looking at myself in the mirror, especially with my shirt off. Ive worked with many trainers over the years. They were always changing my routines, having me do a lot of cardio and putting strain on my body. I never stuck to the routine as the amount of time that was required to work out took up 10+ hours a week. Well of course like most people, I did not have this much time to set aside for working out each week and eventually stopped going all together. Since January of 2015 I have been working out with Luke consistently 2x per week (about 2 hours a week), and lost almost 20 pounds in 6 months! My posture has improved tremendously and I can finally look in the mirror and like what I see. My self confidence has gone improved and gets better each day! Luke is great at challenging me to keep up with my workouts when I am out of town traveling and reminding me of the importance of stretching as part of my normal day to day routine! Luke really imphosies that its not about the number of hours you work out each week, but how you do it! It is not necessary to work out for hours on end each day to get that great body! I highly recommend working out with Luke, especially if you're looking to streamline your workouts and give yourself some time back! I joke with Luke that he is my 2nd therapist as I tend to share with him whats going on in my life each week. He always has great words of wisdom to share and I always leave feeling better ten when I came (of course the endorphins help too) ha! He's a lot of fun to work with and a really great person! You won't regret it I promise! Greg
I started lifting with bobbi from a wheelchair and she has adapted workouts to match my progress. I am now the strongest and most capable I have been in years thanks to bobbis training. I am also a fan of her no bs no excuses attitude, she drives results and I would recommend her to anyone that's ready to take their training seriously!
When asked about doing the Sifu Challenge... Working out at 5am, 6 days a week, for 8 weeks... the first red flag was 5 AM!!!! I wanted it to be at another time, but then I started thinking "What time would be better?" 6am to 7am, I would have a conflict about 2 days a week. 5pm? I would have a conflict 4 days a week. 5 AM!, I had no conflict, except sleep, and it was way to early to commit. My second thought was imagining what my life would be like without doing the challenge, or with doing the challenge. Without doing the challenge, though I was in what was considered good shape, I wanted to tone up, loose a few pounds, and increase endurance. Being an actor, there is a big difference between being "in shape", and being camera ready in shape. The Sifu Challenge, is what I needed to align with my goals. Looking at my life without the course, nothing would change, I would still have my complaints and unfulfilled goals, and aspirations. With the course I would be in line with how I see myself, and could reach my goals in a short period of time. 5 am, would mean I needed to be up, 3 1/2 hours after going to bed. I made the decision, a no brainer, to join the Challenge, and once that was made, the rest was awesome. There is something very empowering about getting up at 4:25am just for yourself, driving to the school just for yourself, and having a workout session set up and designed just for you, with other people set out to accomplish the same goal. It's like a portal opening up in the universe, for your physical transformation, that then vanishes at 6:15am. We all arrive, workout, and leave in an hour. Sifu pushes you, somewhat, but it really is up to you to push yourself. Results will come with minimal effort, but real breakthroughs come with challenging yourself to make tomorrows reps more than today. Its easy to see results in the melting and sculpting of your body, but it is difficult to know the results strength wise, as you are increasing the number of reps you are doing... i.e. in 2 min. if you do 20 bench presses, of light weight the first week, and you are doing 40 the second with slightly more weight, you still reach a point where you can't do more, and the number what ever it is... is just a number. Muscle confusion, the "Swallow challenge", cardio, and friends. No matter where you are now, out of shape, "in shape", weak or strong... you need to take the challenge! I did, and my life has altered. I just turned 45, and I can honestly say I have more strength, endurance, and physical fitness, then I ever have. I joined the 200 pound bench club, have tons more energy, and can literally feel my body burning at a higher level. sifuferreira.com R C Jones
April was such a breath of fresh air as well as a stern kick in the butt. She is so easy to work with, super motivating and really well educated with muscle growth, strength training and especially cardio endurance training. I lost 2 inches all around my body, lost body fat but gained muscle definition in all the areas I was looking to. She was always 10-15 min early, stayed focused on me at all times and never let me quit yet would tailor things around if I was extra sore in a particular area etc... I recommend April 110% and hope to get back to training with her again soon!
