FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
One of the things I love most about this career is that there is always something more to learn. To maintain our license and status as primary care providers, acupuncturists are required by law to take 25 continuing education units every year. I usually go over this minimum by many units - I just can't seem to get enough! I've taken classes on everything from integrative and functional blood chemistry to pediatric acupuncture techniques. In fact, I recently received a scholarship for a CEU class on acupuncture for autism spectrum care.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Many years ago I was very sick. Although Western medicine is incredible and helpful for so many things, it proved to be inadequate for the "mysterious" symptoms I was facing - no MD could figure out what was wrong with me. It was only after building a team of integrative providers - an acupuncturist, nutritionist and holistic physician, that I began to feel human again. It was a long journey, and I learned so much along the way. About a year into my recovery, I decided to go to graduate school - I set out on a mission to get well and help others do the same. I am proud to say that today, I am strong, healthy, happy and utterly in love with my career. Helping others feel great again is the best job I could have ever asked for.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Experience, personality and philosophy go a long way in finding the right provider to fit your needs. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to health care, and likewise, there is no one right provider for every person. Get to know your provider, ask questions, and trust your gut. You should always feel comfortable and taken care of.
