Wow! I am not easily impressed, but I was blown away by the quality, freshness, and entire set-up and presentation by your team. To see the meat grilled and chopped on one side, while fresh corn tortillas were being pressed out on the other, it just added to the atmosphere! Our family has used 5 different Taco Catering companies because we had never found one worth calling back. But thanks to you guys, we will look no further! We will call you every time! And although I am a bit of a control freak and was uneasy because you were so laid back before the event (all communication was through Thumbtack, which is new to me) in hind sight, I was worried for nothing. You were so laid back because you know what you are doing, and all of my guests were so pleased! I've had many requests for your number since the event and look forward to calling you again soon!

Jose at Mr Worldwide Catering, did the catering for an 80th birthday party for us on March 28 2015, we did tacos, rice, beans, he also did fruit, cheese, and veggie platters for us. The food was all excellent, the service was awesome, was there when he stated he would be, did all the set up and clean up of food. Really enjoyed the professional way things were done. Everyone at the party raved about the food, and how nice everything was set up. He even had flowers for his food table to really made it look great. I hope I have the chance to use him again, for other things this is one TOP NOTCH CATERING SERVICE.

Lilian truly helped to make my Christmas party an outstanding one. From the first time we corresponded, she was very timely and organized with making arrangements and worked hard to ensure I was happy with the final details. The day of my event, Lilian was extremely professional, congenial, and organized. The food was delicious and there was a wide variety of options for everyone. My guests commented many times on how good the catering was and how friendly Lilian was. If I ever have another event requiring catering, I would definitely book her again. 5 stars for sure!!

Shawna is AMAZING!! She was the ONLY vendor we had for our wedding that didn't give us any difficulties. I emailed her asking to make changes and every time her response was "of course"! The food was amazing and her services were beyond outstanding. Shawna was flexible in creating our brunch menu and catered to a handful of vegans we had on our guest list. Even our non vegan guests enjoyed the vegan options! We were looking forward to left overs but everyone enjoyed the food so much, there were none!! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caterer whether it be a wedding or any special event. I am definitely keeping her information in case I need a caterer again someday! If you want to be stress free about catering, choose Shawna! You won't be disappointed!!

WE WOULD GIVE 10 STARS IF WE COULD!!!   Chef Mumsie and her team were impeccable from start to finish.  We bid for catering and event planning assistance for our three corporate events and loved the personalization and variety presented by Chef Mumsie.  Once we were put in contact with Bridgette the event committee had all of their questions answered professionally and in a timely manner.   She offered to give us a tasting which put our minds at ease since we were looking for multiple events with completely different expectations.  We contracted with the Chef Mumsie team for our Officer’s Retreat, Product Launch Press Party and the Employee/Family Picnic.  They proved that they can execute any type of event flawlessly…  the plated, upscale 5-course dinner for our 10 corporate officers and their spouses, the cocktail party with tray passed hors d’oeuvres for 200 during the new product launch and the fun, casual employee/family picnic for 500.  When completing three different events in three days at three different locations we somewhat expected some minor hiccups but to our astonishment not only did we get everything we wanted they even surprised us with things we never anticipated, such as the personalized ice sculpture for the officer’s dinner or the live chef action Flight! at the launch party and the cotton candy, popcorn and fondue stations for the picnic.  Those personal touches surprised us yes but they were also the things that took our events from nice to EXTRAORDINARY.  The planning committee has received ongoing praise for the success of our weekend’s festivities but we know we owe it all to Chef Mumsie and her incredible team.  Without a doubt, this is now officially our catering company for all our corporate events.   A million Thanks, Oliver!  J Davis and Compan

I was searching online and I found a website called thumbtack so I put my name and what kind of catering I need and about the price and how many people that I needed this for, in about 30 minutes I started getting different quotes and different estimates for exactly what I was looking for, the first person to respond to me was Avian he called me and we discussed what I needed and gave me a couple different quotes eventually he ended up working with me and the price that I needed I thought for sure it was a home run and it turned out to be an absolute success the food was amazing and there was plenty of it he worked with whatever we needed him to work with with no complaints he was very professional and he was very understanding and our families time of grieving if I had to hire him again I would do it in an instant without thinking twice and I would recommend him to any of my friends and family but I can't really say that now because my whole family did eat from him and they loved it they raved about it. The taco cart was amazing everything was so fresh I'm actually craving some of the adobada he made... 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 when the party was done he left us all the leftovers thank God cuz the next day after the party we didn't want to cook so we ended up making rolled tacos out of the meat that he left us and again it was still absolutely delicious I would like to say thank you again to Avian and his family for catering our party our family will have you back anytime thank you again so much

I first hired Christine from Enjoy Dining In to cater a small business luncheon last year and not only was the food delicious, but the peace of mind I got from knowing everything regarding the food was taken care of was priceless. Christine took care of everything which freed me up to focus on the clients in attendance. Th folks at the lunch were delighted that they were able to have a delicious, healthy meal at the event, even the folks with special dietary needs enjoyed the gluten free options. Since then I've hired Christine a number of times and I'm always impressed with her food and her dependability. Looking forward to our next event together Christine! Thank you, I can't recommend this serve highly enough!

We ordered lunch for our wedding rehearsal day through Steal Your Taste Catering Company. Our menu consisted of tacos, beans, rice, and salad. It was all delicious and affordable! We had a ton of left overs that kept us fed and satisfied all the week. David also rented a margarita machine on our behalf and has it delivered with all the mixings. This company was organized, yummy, and reliable! I would highly recommend David and Steal Your Taste Catering Company.

Monterey is an enthusiastic & extraordinarily talented Chef preparing food that is pleasing to the eye as well as to the palate. From a buffet lunch where she created beautiful & scrumptious dishes that made our taste buds dance to an authentic Moroccan Feast that transported us all back to Marrakech, her food has never failed to delight us and our guests. I confidently recommend her.

Jason at Flavor Affinity took wonderful care of our photoshoot crew (14) for three days in Encinitas / San Diego last week. Every morning Jason came to our rental house and started us off bright and early with a tasty and healthy breakfast. He had lunches boxed up and ready for us as we headed out for long days on location. And each night we came home to tasty snacks while he put the finishing touches on a delicious dinner for the group. He ran things so smoothly which made a very positive impact on our photoshoot where the days are long and everyone needs healthy sustenance to keep the creative juices flowing. Jason is very personable and easy to work with. He connected easily with everyone on the crew at breakfast each morning and at dinner each night. Working with Jason prior to the event was also great - he communicates in a timely fashion, is friendly and professional. Our crew had a variety of food allergies and preferences and he handled all of them with ease, customizing meals as needed and making everyone feel well-cared for. He was very flexible and worked within my budget and adjusted menus as needed. Jason went above and beyond what I expected especially each evening, sticking around to clean up everything for us, which was a total treat at the end of a long day of shooting. Every part of our experience working together was excellent! For anyone in the area looking for wonderful food and stellar service, you will not be disappointed hiring Jason at Flavor Affinity.

I had the pleasure of working for Haylee at a recent retreat for cancer survivors. She formulated the entire menu specifically for the camper's recovery and spoke to them about the value and details of a healthy diet and how crucial it is to their overall health. What's really evident though is how much she cares. You can see it in her work ethic, in her focus, in her preparation and you can feel and taste it in the food. She brings it all together with a mindfulness aspect that was new to a lot of us. I have learned a ton through working with her in the kitchen. Having Haylee as the nutrition guru and chef was a great overall holistic health experience.

Amazing customer service. The company catered a large family even, they were courteous very clean, and an absolute joy to have around. The food was out of this world the best combination of southern blends I've ever had. The pulled pork was tender and juicy as well as the fries and coleslaw. I highly recommend that anyone looking for a catering choose this company!!

Julianna was very professional in setting up all details of our event and gave a discount for the number of people we had at our event. She wrote out a very detailed contract to what would be served, time they would arrive to set up and to start serving our guests. She went over and beyond when she included a sweet and special treat for our daughter that was a spectacular surprise, Chocolate Covered Strawberries at no additional charge! Jorge the chef's meat was amazing and all the fixings! In addition they served quesadillas as an appetizer and Julianna brought them out on a tray to serve our guests! She also made a menu and asked for a pic to include! Like I said she went over and beyond! Everyone enjoyed the food, service and people! All wanting to use this company for their catering needs! Thank You Takobar!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

  • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
  • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
  • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
  • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
  • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
  • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.

How much should catering cost for a wedding?

The cost of wedding catering will reflect the level of service, the menu you choose, the luxury you desire and the number of guests you invite. Where you live also plays a major role in your wedding catering costs. The regional cost to do business and local cost of food will affect your catering bill. There is no set price for wedding catering, because each wedding and each menu is different. This is why many caterers provide a per-person price. This allows you to break down what it costs to feed each person based on the menu you want. Working with your caterer, you can adjust menu items, service level and more to accommodate your budget and guest count. Keep in mind that wedding catering costs are not just for the food. The bill reflects all the components that go into commercial food catering: a commercial kitchen, ingredients, staff, insurance, marketing and more. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Three-course plated meal, moderately upscale, for 125 in Los Angeles: $14,000. Because of staffing costs, a true plated meal costs about twice as much as a staff-assisted buffet.
  • Buffet meal, standard menu, for 100 in Los Angeles: $5,000.
  • Per-person cost for hors d'oeuvres, dinner and nonalcoholic beverages: $24–$37, depending on menu selection, in Southern California.
  • Drop off prepared food for 50: $1,000 in North Carolina. Price does not include any service, setup or breakdown.

How do you serve food at a wedding?

Food service at your wedding will affect your catering costs and influence the atmosphere of the reception. Buffet style is more informal; plated meals are a bit fancier; family style encourages sharing. Read about the different food service styles to select your preferred wedding catering choice.

  • Buffet: Caterers can drop off prepared foods for a DIY and budget-friendly buffet option where you set everything up and food is entirely self-service. For a fuller-service buffet, the caterers set up food, oversee the buffet throughout the event, and clean up afterwards. For food only, prices per person might average $16-$18, while a service buffet may start around $20-$22 per person. Adding food stations can increase per-person costs by at least $3-$5.
  • Family style: Servers bring large platters of food to guest tables in courses. It’s less formal (and less expensive) than a plated meal, but more formal and higher-cost than a buffet. You’ll need large tables to accommodate the platters, so plan accordingly when renting furniture for the event.
  • Plated: A plated event is a formal dining experience; waitstaff serve your seated guests for each course, fill their drinks, and attend to them throughout the dinner. A plated dinner is typically the most expensive option for both food and service.
  • Food trucks: Similar to buffets, with food trucks your guests get their own food and bring it to their table. A food truck gives a relaxed and playful vibe to your reception.
  • Cocktail reception: If you don’t want a formal seated dinner, you can opt for a wide assortment of passed appetizers at an extended cocktail hour reception.
