The people at Epic Energy were awesome!! They were professional from the beginning to end of the project. I started with a call to Mary Sabate, the contact person for Epic Energy. She came to my home and checked the air and heating unit and agreed that it needed to be replaced. She was very thorough explaining the entire process and showed me pictures of the project they did in her home. She helped me with the finance and got me a low interest rate loan that was very affordable. Next came the crew of seven or eight guys, all very professional, clean, polite and very nice. They took the heater and air conditioner and replaced them on day one. On day two, they took all the ducking out and replaced that with larger duck work. With the extra attic insulation from the old duck work they used it to add extra insulation and cover any holes in the attic that were open. They made sure all the registers and duck work were tightly sealed. When the project was done they completely cleaned the attic. It looked like brand new up there and was super clean. I wish the people that built my house had that much pride in their work!!When they removed the old air conditioner from the back patio, the cement was all cracked from the weight of the air conditioner. They placed a plastic stand on top of the cement and then attached the air conditioner to the stand. The worker was not satisfied with the way it looked. We had just finished putting in a new fence in the backyard. He asked if he could use one of the leftover fence boards. We said yes and he proceeded to cut the board and attach it to the base of the plastic base to create a wooden frame for the base of the air conditioner. It looks so nice like that. I can't believe he went the extra mile to do that, just to make it look pretty!!!Epic went above and beyond my expectations! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND them to anyone needing a new air conditioner or heating unit. Every step of the project was done quickly and professionally. They made everything really easy and I had no worries. I also felt the price quoted to me for the entire project was low compared to some of the other companies out there.See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I find out if a roofer is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

To find out whether a roofer is an essential service provider during the COVID-19 pandemic, start by visiting your state or city’s government website. Local governments are providing up-to-date information for residents during this time.

A national guideline is available on CISA’s website, Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19. This page addresses 16 different categories of essential infrastructure sectors, but note that not all jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Is it worth it to hire a roofer?

There are several reasons why it’s worth it to hire a professional roofer instead of attempting it yourself. The first is safety. Roofing is inherently dangerous, as a fall from a roof could seriously injure or kill you. Roofers have specialized equipment and training to help prevent accidents.

Next is experience. Roofers know how to spot problems (leaks, missing shingles, moss or mold growth, etc.)  in your roof that could potentially save you from costly repairs down the road.

And finally, roofers save you time by getting the job done quickly and with a high degree of quality.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a roofer during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Because social distancing is important during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s recommended that you message roofers after narrowing down your choices through an online search of local roofers near you.

Ask if the roofer is willing to conduct an assessment via video chat rather than a traditional site inspection. Additionally, strategize on what other steps you can collectively take to make sure you’re following guidelines on social distancing during this time, including conducting a virtual payment.

Can I use digital payments to pay for roof installation, replacement or repair?

Digital payment platforms are common among roofers, roof repair companies and other services. The COVID-19 pandemic will likely cause more service providers to adopt platforms like PayPal, Zelle, Google Pay, Square Cash, Venmo and others instead of cash or check to decrease the risk of transmission.

You can typically find out whether roofers accept digital payments on their online profiles, and you should confirm this information with them during a consultation call.

Does homeowners insurance cover roof replacement?

Homeowners insurance generally covers roof replacement if the roof is damaged by a natural disaster or a sudden accident, according to Investopedia. However, insurance companies often won’t cover roof replacement costs if the roof is older than 20 years. Read your insurance policy to find out what types of roof repairs or damages are covered.

What is the best roofing material?

The best roofing material for your home will depend on your budget and what you’re looking for. If you want a roof that has longevity, consider the following:

Asphalt Roof

Lasts 20 years

$5 per square foot

Metal Roof

Last 50 years

$10-$18 per square foot

Clay Roof

Last a lifetime

$15-$20 per square foot (for terracotta)

$20 per square foot (for Spanish clay tile)

Concrete Roof

Last a lifetime

$10 per square foot

Slate Roof

Last a lifetime

$10-$75 per square foot

How long does a roof last?

A roof’s lifespan depends on two major factors: the material and how well the roof was installed. Assuming that the roof is installed properly, here’s how long different roofing materials should last:

  • Asphalt shingle roof: 20 years
  • Metal roof: 50 years
  • Slate roof: 100+ years (lifetime)
  • Clay roof: Lifetime
  • Concrete roof: Lifetime
  • Copper roof: Lifetime

How do you know when you need a new roof?

Some of the signs that indicate you need a new roof include cupping, warping and peeling asphalt shingles, as well as cracks on certain shingles. Other warning signs may include:

  • Leakage
  • Exposed nails
  • Missing granules
  • Droopy, sagging roof
  • Moss, mold or fungi growth

A metal roof may need to be replaced when it grows rusty and begins leaking. Tile roofs made of clay, slate or concrete need repairs when cracked. Cleaning and inspecting the roof regularly can help prevent major damage from occurring.

Contact the best roofers near you to inspect, repair or replace your roof.

Do you tip roofers?

It’s not customary or required to tip roofers. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t tip, but it is generally not expected. If you do decide to tip, you can give the tip to the foreman or distribute it yourself.

Another idea to show your appreciation is to surprise the crew with coffee, water, snacks, breakfast or lunch when they arrive at the worksite.

Reviews for Folsom roofing professionals

I bought a foreclosed house with a leaking roof in the middle of the worst winter we have had in 12 years. The roof was wood shake and needed a complete replacement with a switch to asphalt shingles. Guy was able to get my roof project done quickly in the small window of sunshine that we had for a very reasonable price.

Guy Hernandez with Performance Roofing was great! He was able to come out the same morning we spoke and fix my mother's leaky roof. He diagnosed the problem area right away fixed it before it rained again the next day. His quick response time kept ceiling damage to a minimum and the cost was reasonable. Would highly recommend Performance Roofing to friends and neighbors. Kem G.

Our roof had some broken concrete tiles that needed replaced and also the roof needed to be power washed. Through out the entire process, Max was very prompt with his communications. His bid was also very fair. During the work phase, Max was on time and completed the job very professionally. I would definitely do business again with Max! Max, Thank you!
