Thanks to Joyee's help, I got a 5 on the AP Statistics exam. He was willing to explain concepts to me multiple times and he targeted my weaknesses by working though many questions with me. He helped me stay on track for studying for my exams and he was very motivating. Joyee is patient, flexible, and easy to reach. I am so grateful for his help and I will be going back to Joyee for help with my future classes and exams!

I always look forward to my lessons with Paul. He makes every lesson fun and knows how to challenge me without letting me get discouraged. He is one of the best guitar players I've heard and he relates his expertise to my level of ability. It is obvious that he cares about my progress and he wants me to get better. He gives me materials that challenge me and force me to listen to new music. Paul is an inspiring teacher and I'm happy to have taken lessons with him.

I've been taking lessons with Debbie for less than two months and I can already see results. She teaches in an understandable way. I can assure that the practices at home with the recordings in class are of great help. I stopped singing at the age of 10 and haven't properly sang until right now (age of 18.) I can already see results in just a short period of time. She is patient and makes it comfortable to sing. I am auditioning for the X Factor soon and I feel very confident on improving and getting through the judge's audition and bootcamp. I would really recommend her if you're considering on taking singing classes.

We have a child diagnosed with slight autism. We decided to get a private teacher at home due to the experience of a teacher bullying him in a music school located in Chino. Mr. Garcia has all the patience in teaching our son and he knows how to adjust his teaching lessons with him. Our son is always excited to get music lessons with him. Mr. Garcia is also teaching our 18 y/o daughter guitar. And she is always happy and contented with his teaching techniques. Thank you for doing a great job with my children.

Margo has a lot of passion for martial arts and it comes out in his training sessions. After only a few sessions I saw improvement in my form and confidence. I would recommend this to anyone regardless of their experience level.

I have been taking voice lessons from Lou Savage for a few months now he is excellent. He has a great way of referencing a movie or describing a great meal or talking about how a sailboat sails on the water, and how these references can influence singing and learning how to use one's voice in performing. I have really enjoy my time with him. Thank you for everything Lou.

Mark is fantastic! I had my reservations about a long-distance piano teacher, but Mark has completely come through. First of all, he is a committed professional. He is punctual, engaged and focused. He is also an excellent communicator. He has helped us rearrange lessons to accommodate other activities, and is excellent and involved in strategizing about lesson scheduling and content. The kids are happy and are progressing nicely; we are completely pleased.

My daughter started violin lessons and we couldn't be more pleased with the instruction she is receiving. Ms. Eunji is very patient and thorough. It was easy to schedule classes and the prices are reasonable. It is a plus that they offer lessons on the weekends as well. My daughter also decided to take the robotics and she is super thrilled with what she learning in there.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
