Joe T. says, "I cannot recommend Nathaniel highly enough as a personal trainer for young athletes. As the parent of a 12-year-old boy who competes at a high level in travel ice hockey, finding the right trainer was critical. Nathaniel has been an absolute game-changer for our family. From the very first session, Nathaniel stood out because of his deep understanding of youth athletic development. He truly gets the unique demands of athletics including ice hockey—explosive speed, agility, core strength, balance, and injury prevention—while keeping everything age-appropriate for a growing 12-year-old. His programs are smart, progressive, and never push too hard in ways that could risk overuse injuries, which was a big concern for us. In just a short time working with Nathaniel, my son has shown noticeable, measurable improvements: Faster skating speed and quicker first-step acceleration Significantly better on-ice endurance and recovery between shifts Stronger core and improved balance, which has translated directly to better puck control and stability during checks. What I appreciate most about Nathaniel’s approach. He doesn’t just train the body—he teaches proper movement mechanics, emphasizes recovery and mobility. My son actually looks forward to his sessions, which says everything about how engaging and motivating Nathaniel is with kids this age. Nathaniel is professional, patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in each athlete’s success. He communicates clearly with parents and tailors every workout to the individual player’s goals and current season schedule. If you have a youth athlete (especially in hockey or other high-intensity sports) and want real, sustainable results with someone who prioritizes long-term development over quick fixes, Nathaniel is the trainer you’re looking for. We’re incredibly grateful to have found him and plan to continue working with him for years to come."See more

Joy F. says, "Sam has been my trainer for two months plus and I have nothing but great things to say about him. He took into consideration that I hadn’t been in the gym in almost one year and started training me at the level that I was at, which made showing up to each session so much easier and something I look forward to. He helped me with my nutrition, how to organize my macros and calories to fit the goal that I want. He also gives tips on how best to recover from working out. I’m so glad I decided to go with my guts and choose Sam and I would 100% recommend him to anyone. PS: here’s an image showing my before (right image) and after (left image) from just one month of working out, following Sam’s nutrition, recovery and cardio advices…. My friends and family were the first to notice my progress and they are so thankful for Sam’s help as my trainer."See more

AJ J. says, "I reached out to get a workout tailored to my needs and skill level for an overweight 40 year old, still active, just looking to shrink my stomach snd excess weight. Met up with Certified Personal Trainer Rashaan, he gave me the option to come to the extensive gym he has at his apartment complex, or the Hangar (another gym he trains at downtown). I chose his home gym as it was closer to mine. He proceeded to put together a circuit of 10 workouts over the span of an hour and some change that consisted of bench pressing, weighted solider marches, plate truck drivers, burpee marches, bent over dumbbell rows, leg scissors, plank burpees, and plank holds that l finally tapped out on. But regardless, great workout, Rashaan is a great guy, very understanding and helpful, did every exercise with me."See more

Deedee S. says, "I am so fortunate to have found Anne. I was 53 and active but my knees had begun to hurt so badly that I struggled to get in and out of bed, seats, and cars. They ached at night and kept me from sleeping. After 2 sets of cortizone shots and weeks of prescribed physical therapy I interviewed trainers to help me with therapy and strengthening. I chose Anne because she listened. She was interested in helping me take care of my body. She works with women my age. Within weeks, I was able to balance, stretch, and lift noticably more! Within more weeks, I no longer even NOTICED my knees. I've now zoomed with Anne twice a week/:30 min sessions for an entire year. I feel stronger, and I am stronger (Anne even notices that my arms are cut;). I look forward to my sessions with Anne. We start each session by tuning in to my body and my needs. I am grateful for Anne, and I highly recommend her guidance and training."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
