Houman, you are amazing. People love our new restaurant. Look at our yelp reviews for the proof 😊. They can't stop praising about our restaurant interiors on all the social networking sites. Houman went above and beyond in helping us open our modern fast casual restaurant. Our budget did not allow for us to afford an interior designer. Houman stepped in as an interior designer along with the construction of our interiors. His ideas and execution were amazing. We couldnt have done the design so well without him. We had a tight deadline and Houman is the type of a contractor that wont mind working long nights and weekends. He worked around the clock to get us to opening day. The day before opening, late night we had a plumbing issue. Houman went out of his way, and came late nigjt to fix our plumbing issue! Thanks a lot Houman! We are thankful! Houman is very organized, professional and courteous on site. If you are looking for a trustable contractor I highly recomend him! From his Proposal paper work till the finishing touches, everything Houman did for us is Extraordinary! We will work around his schedule for our next restaurant opening

I interviewed 4 other interior designers and chose DACH design because Debby and Christine "got it". I gave all designers the same information regarding the feel I was going for, my husband's and my likes and dislikes, and our budget. Christine and Debby came back with an outstanding design that worked within our budget (though I did end up splurging on a couple of items) and were very flexible with our timelines. Their presentation was professional and informative and let us know exactly what we would be getting into with our project. They had good quality control and oversaw all the contractors that came in to work on our condo. My husband and I love the outcome and look forward to many years of enjoyment in our beautifully designed home. It was a pleasure working with Debby and Christine and I highly recommend DACH Design.

I can't say enough great things for Mazi and his team at Mana Design Build. From beginning to end, we found everyone we came in contact with to be honest, professional, patient and competent. We received several quotes for a master bathroom and powder room remodel and hardwood floor installation for our home. After looking at all of them, we decided on Mana Design because we thought the estimate was fair, they had outstanding reviews on Thumbtack and we really liked Mazi. He came and took a look at our master bathroom and immediately had great ideas that put them in computer software - something that really lacked from the other contractors. He is very expert in what he is doing and as a home owner, he will educate us before we finalize our decision on materials. In all honesty, his quote a was little more than the others, but we sensed the integrity in him that was echoed in many other reviews. We didn't mind paying a little more for the design and his extra time to know that we would be working with someone who would be proactive in fixing any problems that arose and believe wholeheartedly that you get what you pay for! He designed our powder room exactly what I was dreamed for. Like with any remodel and installation process, there are so many decision- both big and small- and I felt like Mazi was patient with us and had a true concern for our project. His foreman Mo was wonderful also. He kept us updated on what crew would be coming everyday and talked with us about little details while giving us his expert opinion. They has a nice portal to monitor your project scheduling, payments and even progressing pictures. I can say with all honesty that every crew that came to work on our house- cabinetry, plumbing, hardwood floors, drywall/paint, granite and tile were outstanding. They worked hard, cleaned up their mess everyday, were kind and patient with my 4 and 2 year old and were nice and courteous to us. That makes a big difference when your life if turned upside down with a construction project, no bathrooms and a dust everywhere. We are extremely happy with our master bathroom and exclusively our lovely powder room and new hardwood floors. It has changed the look of our house and have received many compliments. And, it is worth noting, the entire project was completed in 4 weeks (and it would have been shorter if we didn't take some days picking out plumbing fixtures, lighting, stone and backsplash and cabinetry). 4 weeks! And no corners were cut or work was rushed. We recommend Mana Design without reservation and will be using them again for our future kitchen project. I recommend you do also and even pay for their design fee if you do care what you get. Eric and Kim Morales

Yes, some would think that one wood blind is the same as any wood blind. I regretfully found out that this is not true. I thought I would save time and just purchase the builders window blinds package that was offered when I was selecting the options for my new home. Well, after only six months of living in my home the wood blinds started to warp and crack. They made my brand new home look terrible. It was a terrible investment. I found Made in the Shade Blinds & More and they were able to schedule an appointment with me the following day. They came and educated me on the fact that all wood blinds are not alike and I just wasted a lot of money. They were able to show me wood blinds samples, explain and show me the difference between the wood blinds they offer and the ones installed in my house. All of the window treatments they offer come with a limited life-time warranty. The kicker is - I paid just a little bit more than I did when I purchased the builder package. Made in the Shade Blinds & More is an excellent company and I highly highly recommend them.

I used this company when i moved into our new house. Upon arrival, we had a chat about how I use the kitchen and my vision for it. She attentanvly listened and asked questions about my ideas. Independently, she set and organized the kitchen in a super logical and functional way. Also, she was very nice and pleasant to work with. After a long hard day packing the old house and unpacking the new house, being able to have a functional kitchen was the best investment we could have made. Also she has great taste and a great eye for decorating and making the rooms look wonderful.

You will love working with Devlyn. From the timely, concise contract through the finishing touches, Devlyn Gorby is top notch! In the last six months, Devlyn has helped design and decorate two properties for us; one an older recently purchased home for my son and the other a small rental apt in Burbank. We are so happy with these beautiful, highly functional homes. The older home was transformed into a stunning modern property in less than two months including wall, ceiling and window treatment, lighting, art and all the furnishing. My little apt now has sleeping for four and dining for six. I reached out to Devlyn after twice purchasing a couch that wouldn't fit though the hall. If I'd started with her I would have saved more money! But I saved money anyway because Devlyn found sale furniture for me as well as a custom made reclaimed wood table. She also repurposed some of the furniture I had. Devlyn is a master in the use of color, lighting and proportion. She is also a great communicator and knows how to "make her client happy". She never dictates but draws out your ideas and preferences. I have high hopes that I will have the pleasure of working with Devlyn again one day and I'm sure that once you've worked with her you will feel the same.

Stacy Kroot is a visual alchemist. She has a way of looking at a problem and finding a solution which is elegant, efficient and novel. She was instrumental in solving some challenging problems for my interior design project. In addition, Stacy is very detail oriented, considering things I never would’ve thought of. She is careful to think through all aspects of design and also to consider the costs. She is easy to work with and easy to get along with. Working with Stacy was truly a pleasure!

So happy with my new home! I hired Ranj to help me with the interior design of my home that I recently purchased. Not knowing where to start from and what to pick out. I gave her my wish list and true enough she was very detailed, specific and she delivered results that went beyond my expectations. I am very happy with the results and I’m glad I decided to work with Ranj!

Sarah has exceeded my expectations with her ability to really listen to my needs and then deliver the furniture and decorations that are ideally suited to my home's coastal theme. Sarah is accessible and very communicative by text, phone and email. Sarah comes up with clever ideas to beautify a space that I could never think of. Sarah's passion to please her customer coupled with her ability to create breathtaking yet livable home spaces is really quite remarkable. Sarah came in on time and under budget for my staging experience. She does not nickel and dime you. We set a flat fee for the work and she made it all happen in the time frame she structured. Sarah transformed my average home into a stunning showplace. We're 95% done, and are still adding bits and pieces as she perfects the place. I will put up "before and after" photos as soon as the professional photographer sends them to me. My sister found Sarah on Thumbtack and she said Sarah seemed to "get it" immediately and was enthused to help. I contacted other staging companies, but I liked Sarah the best and hired her. I will engage Sarah on my next project. I highly recommend Sarah's creativity, her untiring work ethic and her reliability. If you're getting three bids for your next staging project, consider asking Sarah for a bid. You'll be happy you did.

Jocelyne was great to work with! She understood exactly what I needed and was able to give great advice. I mainly needed someone to confirm that I was on the right track and she was able to confirm some of my choices while giving advice on guidance on other areas that I believe will be much better choices in my space. Our home was a mess of a construction zone at the time that she visited and yet she jumped right in and never complained about the dust or heat. I really appreciated her and would recommend her to anyone!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

  • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
  • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
    • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
  • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
    • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
  • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
  • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.
