I had a private training session with Dee Cee, and it was worth every penny! She has a real passion for training dogs and she is very respectful, clear, thorough and effective. My dog Gubi has behavior problems and Dee Cee came up with methods that immediately worked! She also gave me great tools and tips to use in the future. I was so impressed with Gubi's progress in just a day and I feel like I know my dog much better now. Thank you Dee Cee!!

My two Golden Retrievers (the "boys) were not very social with other dogs. Robert is extremely knowledgeable and uses a rewards-based approach to training the boys. Training with Robert has given me the ability to handle distractions and be safe around other dogs while walking with them. Robert treats my dogs with great love and is amazing about making sure that I understand the proper techniques to train with my dogs outside of our lessons. I highly recommend Robert to help with any training issue(s) or behavior modification problem.

I would recommend Superstar Pet Sitting to all my family & friends. Barbie has been walking my dog and takes care of my cat when I am away. I have never had any problems with her and my pets just love her. They even picked up some good training ethics from her. It's been 2 years now and things are wonderful. :)

I was in search of a trainer for my standard Schnauzer who would pull and lunge at other dogs when walking. I could not control the dog due to my tennis elbow. After talking to more than 7 trainers I came across Steve. He went into detail on the phone on how we would address the problem. I had hope! In just two visits I was able to learn what I was doing wrong and correct it. I no longer get frustrated and my dog enjoys walking. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome and most of all no more sore arm. Yeah.

Angela did a wonderful job looking after our fur kids! We have one dog, two kitties and a foster kitty that she watched over. She walked our dog twice a day, played with the kitties and even brought our mail in! She will send you updates and pictures if you ask her to. I highly recommend her, she did a great job!

Kevin and Latoya are amazing! Not only are they both so personable and kind but they go above and beyond to help you solve the challenges you are facing with your dog. Kevin has a lot of amazing stories and testimonials about the worst dog experiences he has seen and how they have been overcome which always kept us hopeful about our rescue. If you think your dog is a lost cause, take them to Kevin. Just know that it isn't all about the trainer, but the consistency that you must keep up as an owner. Our dog was a rescue and had terrible separation anxiety and nervousness around other dogs to the point that he was tearing down and destroying every screen and window we had if left alone. We did at home training to start and then boarded him and after staying with Kevin and his follow up instruction we can finally enjoy walking our dog and are working with him on the separation but it has improved dramatically. They helped us better understand where it was coming from to truly be able to know how to help too. Thank you Kevin and Latoya for all that you do! Jasper thanks you too!

Susan is not just a loving care taker of my dog, Max and my cat, Sir Purrs A Lot, but I think she's actually an animal whisperer. She is my daily dog-walker and has also house/dog/cat sat for a week at a time on many occasions. I completely trust her and know that my animals are in great care when she is with them. I would recommend her highly.

Hire this girl! Robin is amazing and you can tell she truly loves animals. She used to walk our 15 year old Golden Retriever. Violet loved her! Robin does take the best pictures and since we recently had to say goodbye to Violet, we cherish them. Robin currently walks our rescue puppy, Walter. He adores her! She walks him, spends time playing with him and tiring him out, and even patiently trains him. Her hard work has really helped us. He sits at all doors and street corners. He also sits and waits before he runs out of his crate. Robin continues to take great photos of Walter and texts us daily updates about his behavior and how his walk went. We are so lucky to have found a trustworthy and caring dog walker. We really appreciate her hard work and care for our dogs.

Michael has been walking my dog Kona for years and I can honestly say that he is the BEST in the biz. Not only is he such a wonderful person, but he also just cares so much about my pup! She is very protective of me and our house, but from the moment she met him, she loved him. The two of them have such a strong bond. I can't even tell you how amazing it is to know that long term or short term, Kona will be so well taken care of. If I'm going away for the weekend, or if I have a really long day on set, I know that I won't have to worry about Kona because I know she's having a great day. He's also always so quick to text me back if I have a question, or update me on her day and he loves to send pictures. And as a crazy dog mama... I love pictures. I honestly can't say enough great things about Michael!

Jessie is knowledgeable and reliable about walking dogs. She has some training experience. My dog is very leash reactive and I'm not totally comfortable letting him go with someone without my supervision. Jessie was willing to let me do that. For now, I've postponed dog walking, but not because of Walk'n Wag'n. They seem to be a reliable and professional company. I would recommend them.

Eva is such a great doggy-sitter for our family. She takes great care of Ziggy; he's a tough dog that doesn't trust many people. Eva is trustworthy, conscientious, and reliable. We wouldn't entrust our dog and home to anyone else!

I always get anxious when traveling and leaving my dog back in LA. I felt 100% less anxious knowing Kenny was watching Sammie. He knows dogs better than anyone I've met and understands my needs as well. I wouldn't dream of leaving my dog with anyone else!

George has taken care of our 2 dogs several times and we are so happy and thankful. We always know our dogs are in such good care with George. He spends time with the dogs and doesn't just run in to let them out or feed them and then leave. We very highly recommend George to care for your beloved pets!

Incredible service! Brad always make customers and their dog's feel important. He's very helpful and knows what he's doing. I feel confident knowing I can leave my dog with him and that my dog's needs will get met and she will come back to me happy.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
