We highly recommend Lois For tutoring. She is well known in Honolulu and has years of experience. She tutored our granddaughter when she needed to take the entrance exams into private schools. Lois has great knowledge of children and skill in getting them to do their work. Her lessons were challenging and fun. Our grandaughter could hardly wait to return to her next session. We wish Lois was here to tutor our grandaughter in her college SATS. Carol Lehman

Daniel provided coaching on a 6,000 word essay. Daniel was great. He provided help with grammar, sentence structure, and flow of the essay. He did not "correct" the essay, he was a coach who gave guidance and shared lessons on how to think about the work that will be helpful in the future.

I originally met Tai to get help with AP Calculus AB, which I ended up getting an A in! After our work with calculus, Tai let me know how valuable the SAT was for colleges, and that I must improve my score. In about two months, Tai helped me increase my score from 1200 to 1400, which is in the 99th percentile. Tai really cares about his students, and is always just a text away. He’s unlike any other tutor because of the teachings of the importance of a positive mindset, which is a lesson I can apply to more than academics, but life in general. Highly recommend Tai for any student.

Natalia has been a light in my life. We met each other when I was at my lowest point and she helped teach me valuable life changing techniques. Through healthy techniques combining kundalini yoga, meditation, and the power of the positive thought she helped me rewire my destructive pathways of thought in my brain. I am forever thankful for the lessons she has taught me and would recommend her to anybody in need of a life change.

Maryanne is truly amazing! I am a senior citizen and lifelong non-swimmer. After just a few lessons, I am comfortable in the water and confident that I will swim. Maryanne is a knowledgeable instructor, patient but also encouraging you to do your best. She is flexible with scheduling and always prompt. Her training pool is warm and clean. I highly recommend her for both children and adults.

I worked with Kate as an executive coach to develop my leadership and communications skills to work with my team. She is an inspirational coach, who has the intuition to guide people through a process and the tools to help the person improve. Kate comes from with an open heart and teaches you how to be true to yourself and lead with positive energy. I took several classes with her through the Equine/Horse session and practiced leading the horse. They are sensitive animals with high instincts and know when you are coming from a place of truth. It was an amazing experience. I learned to stay the course. I would highly recommend her for a one on one coaching or for a corporate event and team building.

If you've never taken a class from Eddie Suero, do yourself a favor and book one now. His extensive knowledge of the practice of yoga, outstanding teaching skills, and joyful disposition all add up to create the perfect instructor. Eddie somehow manages to push me toward my highest expression in a pose before I realize what's happening - maybe it's because he makes me feel like we're doing it together, eliminating the fear in some of those trickier poses. He creates a safe place to explore the limits of your personal yoga practice. Whether you're a total beginner or already a yoga superstar, you will love practicing with Eddie.

I am a CEO of a company and assigned my niece the task of finding us as a personal trainer. Having a busy schedule, chronic back pain, and turning 48, I wanted to feel better, reduce my stress, and look hot(i'm cute and i dont want the jigle/ i want to look hotter with age.). We interviewed one other personal posted on thumbtack which was interesting to say the least. Cheryl was out second "interview" and I signed up immediately after our first workout. She is a breath of fresh air witha. great personality. after running my company for 10+ hours a day, she comes in with an amazing bubbly personality. She lights up a room and turns my mood from stressed to focused. We have had 3 workouts to date and are looking forward to keeping up working out 4 times a week with Cheryl. She motivates without pressure. Somehow, she makes exercise fun. I knew I wanted to get healthier and I knew if i did not make a commitment, it would never happen. If i have appointments for business or pleasure i always keep them. So i decided to commit myself with scheduled workout days and times. no excuses. i will let you all know how the first month goes. If you sre contemplating, i have given Cheryl permission to give you my number if you would like to ask me personally or my niece how awesome she is.

Maureen was great. I've been having very specific pain and mobility issues. She took the time to understand my situation and really listened. Then she showed me some excellent poses that could help. She's an excellent communicator and really pays careful attention to her students. Highly recommend.

Hi! My name is Marion. I am French. I moved to LA for my acting career. I am fluent in English and I, myself, am still working on reducing my French accent; so I know how it works and how to learn that, step by step. I have done some design studies in school and some artistic ones (first, in applied arts in high school before my design degree, then acting, TV hosting and coaching). I have been a model for 10 years and traveled the world. I think communication is so important, and I love the idea of learning a new language and the culture, thoughts and habits that go with. I have always been very good in writing. I write and read a lot. I never do any spelling mistakes in French, and I am really good at it. I just love to see someone talk better and better in my language every day. It is motivating and a very good thing to me. I can help you achieve your goal. Marion

Do you want guitar lessons from a professional in the local LA area that's willing to travel to you? You've found the right guy! I also do video and Skype lessons. I provide the option for private lesson students of videotaping the guitar lessons (so they can see my playing and repeat sections as needed) and sending the video file to the student, so they may watch the lesson again at their own convenience. For more information about me and my services, visit my website. First lesson is free, with no obligation for further lessons. My rates are negotiable, and I offer special discounts to USC students.

I offer one-on-one piano lessons. Master the basics for enjoyment. Teaching adapted to the level desired by the student. I also teach improvisational playing.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

    • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
    • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
    • Defining your career goals
    • Creating a plan for job searching
    • Improving networking strategies and skills
    • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
    • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
    • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

    Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

    • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
    • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
    • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
    • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
    • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
    • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
    • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

    What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.
