Mike literally saved the day for me with his Excel skills.
I was asked to provide a summary of proposed merit increases for over 1500 employees for the Vice President of Operations to review and approve. I was handed a spreadsheet that was 87 columns wide. My task was to summarize the data by division, territory, and functional group so the Vice President could see, by division and functional group, the proposed merit increases versus the budget provided.
I sent the worksheet to Mike for help. He created several complex calculations to determine the budget, total the proposed increases, and the budget versus actual analysis. The calculations were complex in that there were 6 different variables to consider. Once the calculations were verified, he needed to create a dynamic summary of the data (several pivot tables) so the VP could easily drill into the details he needed to approve the recommendations.
Mike did all of this in a day!!! It would have taken me days to create and validate the calculations.
Thanks to Mike, we got the correct information out on time. Furthermore... I was able to use what he did to build a repeatable template for future use!
They were so impressed, they wanted to repeat the process for the Executive team.
