I wanted to replace under-mount two bowl sink and contacted several plumbers but all of them told me that replacing under-mount sink is very difficult and could damage to my granite countertop. However, Amin agreed to do the job after inspecting my kitchen sink and did a wonderful job. Even dishwasher installers from Lowes appraised his excellent job.

Nima is punctual and very responsive to questions. We are very happy with the new bathroom vents. We've called around asking for quotes and Nima is the only one who can do it without a major construction. We highly recommend him.

I was referred to Drain29 by word of mouth. Mr. Johnson was highly recommend so I didn't call around for other quotes. I hired him to do work in my bathroom. He was letting me know every step of the way what the problem was and how to solve it. He replaced my shower faucet, and the bathroom sink drain. The drain was worked on in the past by other handy men, but they weren't able to install the new drain and stop the leak at the same time. Mr. Johnson showed me what the problem was and fixed it. I haven't had a drop leak out since then. Mr. Johnson is very professional and knowledgeable as well as nice. I highly recommend him as the best company for drain service in the Inland Empire. Thanks for all your help Mr. Johnson.

My tenants had a leak in the master bathroom and Diamond plumbing was able to come out the next morning. They were a bit late and I had to contact them for update but did complete the work that morning. I would use them again.

Tyler installed a new water heater for me the day after I called, arrived on time and got the job done. He quoted the price ahead of time and stuck to it, even though there were a couple of unforeseen challenges. Unlike so many other plumbers, he didn't add other items onto his bill. Straight forward, honest, and refreshing to work with. I would highly recommend him and will definitely be calling him for future plumbing services.

first of all let me say how pleased i am by hiring houman, not only because he did a perfect job and he give me an amazing pricing, but for his manners and his quickness, he did the whole job by himself which it shock me how fast he finished it by himself. this project was a remodel master bathroom, i needed him to do painting, lightening, plumping, tiling, and such as. Im glad he was prepared for the job and he had all the tools he needed and also every time he was done with for the day the place was super clean and there was no mess around. im glad i choose him and i definitely hire him again and i will tell all my friends and family about him.

I had a drain that was clogged, Jesse was in the area. He came over, determined that the problem was worse than anticipated. He went above and beyond in keeping the cost to me down. He made it a priority to have my drain line cleared and explained very simply how a previous plumber had created my drainage problem and what it would it take to get it to work without problems in the future. I have already saved his number and gladly refer him. I am leary of service plumbers because of the nightmares that I have heard, Jesse was a dream to have do the work, was very honest and I highly recommend him. Pete - Mission Viejo

Isidrio is the BEST plumber (and tech) I've worked with. He was very professional, prompt, clean, and offered a very fair price. I've used him to install my water heater, fix a bathroom faucet leak, and he just remodeled by bathroom. It's hard to find people who are not just good at their job but who are also honest. I would recommend Isidrio for any job.

I needed some work done at my elderly mother's home, and I reached out to George for help. Throughout our entire communication, he was understanding of our needs and sensitive to my mother's projected cost. George went far and beyond his calling. He fixed our garbage disposal, and one of our bathroom's shower handle. He listened to our needs, and even though my mother is limited in English speaking, he asked her if there was anything else he can fix for her. At the end of this project, I would say that as a daughter, I would trust George to come back to our home because he will NOT take advantage of his customer. He sensitive and has outstanding customer service. Throughout the years, I have seen my mother be victimized by handymen, plumbers, etc., and I must say George outstanding. He repeatedly checked his work, and made sure it was operating before he left. My mother immediately asked George for extra business cards because she knows she can count on his professional service.

He was friendly, and after the job was done you would never know that someone was working on our bathroom for several hours: it was super clean. I was very happy with him, and would call on him again for any plumbing needs. Thanks Greg!

Jordan as a person was very nice. His inital follow up was prompt and he spoke very highly of his attention to detail. As a first time homeowner, I know little about construction and heavily rely on the expert knowledge of others to assist with our remodel. We hired Jordan after meeting three other contractors based solely on our interaction with him. When we originally had Jordan out to our house it was for a flooring quote only. Jordan explained he also preformed landscaping work on the side so we added that to our list. Jordan did an amazing job installing the floors! The entire dynamic of the house changed because of the floors. I was very disappointed in a few other areas which is the reason for 4 stars. We do not currently live in the house although we do have a few items in place for weekend visits. Towards the end of the job Jordan said that they were mostly finished so I had gone to check out the progress. The tile work in both bathrooms is crooked. The master bath is very noticeable. In addition, my bedding was covered in dust and they had smeared grout into the carpet in my bedroom. There was also sloppy grouting and caulking done in several areas of my home. To add insult to injury his crew decided it was ok to help themselves to my kids popcicles - this actually upset me just asuch as the tile floor. Giving credit where it is due: Jordan and Tim did have my carpets cleaned, my bedding dry cleaned and I was given the option to have them rip up the bathroom floor or receive a discount from my final bill. Jordan did offer to replace the missing popcicles as well although that never did happen. The landscape looks nice as well but we asked to keep the remaining turf and that also didn't happen. I asked jordan about it and he said what was salvageable was in our shed - it wasnt. Again, I was very happy with the floors but the other items make it hard to say if I would rehire for additional projects. Nice guy but I didn't feel like our home was cared for in the way he said it would be. If you do decide to hire Jordan my recommendations would be: 1. Get a detailed breakdown of the work 2. Notate about the use of your personal items (they completely filled up both our garbage cans) 3. Inspect. Inspect. Inspect. Check every corner.

Jeff did a wonderful job on our home remodel. Jeff was responsible for a kitchen and bathroom remodel, he replaced tile with laminate throughout the house, painted entire interior, replaced crown and floor moulding. Him and his apprentice were considerate, hard-working and easy to get along with. Throughout the project, Jeff was flexible enough to complete the numerous changes we made throughout the project. He kept a positive attitude and did not complain when we wanted extra work done. He was working at our home for almost three months, When the job was over our home was completely transformed into our dream. I highly recommend Total General Contracting to my family and friends. I will use him again in future projects at our home.

Be very careful with this Guy. I let Joe into my house to work on my bathroom, and he never finished the job. He tries to act all friendly with you, constantly asking for money to finish the job. I gave him some cash upfront before the job was finished; huge mistake. From that point, Joe never returned. Excuse after excuse after excuse. Very frustrated and disappointed in the service I received. I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND

Honestly I do not know where to begin. I have had experience with over 20 different plumbers and plumbing companies in the greater San Diego area. Not one of them were as knowledgeable, honest, or affordable as ACPS Plumbing and Drain. Working with him you can tell that they care and take pride in their work. On multiple occasions they have resolved long term and urgent plumbing issues sooner than I expected. Several occasions I hired them to fix issues from another plumber. The saying you get what you pay for holds true to this company but goes deeper then that. The quality of their work exceeds the price.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

For more on how long a bathroom remodel should take check out The Complete Thumbtack Bathroom Remodel Guide.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
