We hired Daniel for 6 wedding dance lessons. He helped us choose a song and prepare a dance. He was always on time to the studio and professional. He makes sure to record the progress at the end of each lesson which is so helpful when you forget your moves! Very creative, and I would definitely recommend.

Erin gave us dance lessons for our wedding first dance. Even at the last minute, Erin was easy to communicate and schedule with. She managed our time efficiently and clarified anything she felt was unclear during the dance lessons. Erin had a great, friendly, upbeat attitude from beginning to end and made us feel comfortable quickly. Highly recommend!

I don't recall now how I found Desiree but I'm so glad I did! My fiancee did NOT want to do a choreographed wedding dance, but I wanted to have at least part of the dance memorized so we knew when the transitions and dips were. We had a few lessons with Desiree, perhaps at least 5, and Desiree was super welcoming, friendly, and easy to work with. We easily got along with her, which made being her students that much easier. We had a say into how the dance would look like and she styled it with an expert's eye. My fiancee and I had taken salsa classes at CCSF so we were a little bit better than beginners. She took what the moves that he knew and worked with it. We had picked a song we both liked but it had faster beginning so she taught us Bachata and transitioned into Salsa. She also edited the song for us so that the DJ could pay the clip at the wedding. During our class, she took videos with us so that we could watch it later and see how we could improve. She also helped us with the entrance into the room and the ending. I would definitely recommend her!

I had 4 Salsa lessons with Marge so far. This is not my first time dancing Salsa, which makes things progress quickly. She has a great way of explaining steps and rhythm, so that it is easy for me to follow and remember. Also, she is very friendly and goes the extra mile to help and advise me. I look forward to more lessons with her!

My church wanted to do a program of three Latin Dance lessons over the course of a month. We looked for somebody to do this and we found the most marvelous teacher --- Ruth Caspary of Latin Connection Dance. First of all, she was really professional and easy to plan with. And she had good suggestions for the planning. We were able to fit in bachata, salsa, and American tango. Super! Second, she came on site (we have a great space with a wooden floor) with her equipment and music and was ready to teach. Third, she is a super teacher. She accounted for each person's abilities and was energetic and generous with her time. We all learned a lot and had great fun, too. Last, but not least, she is social and friendly, a good conversationalist as well as a great teacher. There's no question who we'd go to in the future.

We took dance lessons from Alpa for our first dance at our wedding reception. She choreographed the whole thing and even asked us for our input and offered to let us change things based on comfort and preference. She did a great job though and me being the control freak that I am, I'm surprised that I didn't have a single change request! Let me stress that neither one of us are dancers and I was very worried about doing the dance in front of so many of our friends and family. But Alpa was so patient with us and made us feel so comfortable. We feel like we've known her for years yet we just met her a couple weeks ago! We learned the dance in two lessons and we will be back for our final lesson next week just to practice in front of her with my 25 lb lehenga and heels. If you need dance lessons of any kind, she is your girl! Thank you, Alpa! We are so thrilled that you will be a part of our big day in such a big way.

I had so much fun working with Isaac on my first lesson! The vibe was super friendly and we went over a half-dozen basic steps, giving me plenty of material to practice on. This is exactly what I was seeking from private hip-hop dance lessons.

Freddy is fabulous! We hired her for a mom / son dance for his bar mitzvah. This was not a typical slow dance. We asked her to copy the choreography from our favorite video. She showed up at the studio having already broken down the choreography for us. Then she had us go through some warmup dancing and started the choreography. She was incredibly responsive to our needs. I wanted the dance broken down for me a certain way so I could nail the steps. She was supportive of my son, who had never taken a dance lesson. Within the time we booked, we nailed the dance and video'd the choreography. Cannot say enough good things about Freddy. She's upbeat, friendly and makes you feel welcome in a dance studio.

Jasmine transformed dancing for me. Before taking a few lessons with her, dancing was a huge source of anxiety for me -- I avoided it at all costs. Jasmine helped me find the beat, offered me reassurance about the learning process, and eventually gave me a repertoire of moves to draw on. I danced at my wedding thanks to Jasmine. Also, she is super reliable, punctual, kind, and professional. I recommend her very, very highly. I am so thankful!

I have nothing but positive things to say about both Yaelisa and Jason and my experience with Caminos Flamencos. I have been taking flamenco guitar lessons with Jason for a bit over a year now. He is a master musician and his command of rhythm, technique, theory and harmony are second to none. Seriously, YouTube him and see for yourself! And just as important, he is a fantastic teacher. He really knows how to help you grow as a musician and reach your potential, and he cares about his students, so he's actually pushing you for your own good. Every session is a blast, always inspiring and I always come back improved from last time. I have also been accompanying some of Yaelisa's beginner / intermediate classes as a guitarist. The same values mentioned above for Jason apply to her as well (birds of a feather flock together!). She has amazing compás, and provides an incredibly solid foundation for her students, and for me, as a guitarist. She really cares about her students and it's been great to see students progress each week. I know my rhythm and ability to accompany has improved leaps and bounds thanks to her. I am getting an incredible foundation. Whether you're looking to begin your flamenco journey or take it to the next level, Yaelisa and Jason are your ticket!

Nikolai is my Latin dance teacher and I have been dancing with him since January 2018. In a short amount of time, I have improved my dancing so much that we competed at the San Francisco Open in April 2018 on the Open Silver category earning 1st places in all single dances (chacha, samba, rumba, pasodoble and jive). Nik is an expert dance teacher who has great knowledge and enthusiasm. He is patient and gives just the right level of instruction and correction. I enjoyed every dance lesson with Nik and I highly recommend him.

I loved Sarah, she is an amazing teacher for my 10 year old daughter. Her energy is infectious, she's so good with kids. Really she's just such a people person. I really like that she is still competing and continuing to get lessons with international coaches. My daughter is getting international ballroom and latin training without having to travel overseas. Love her!

Prior to being a student of Monica Santana, never in my life would I step foot on a dance floor. Apprehensively, I scheduled my first class. With the warmest and most sincere of smiles, Monica made her introduction. I pulled out my phone, showed her a salsa video I had found on YouTube, "Monica please, that...that's what I want to do. That's what I want to be." She laughed and assured me, "we'll get you there! Let's practice!" Within moments of meeting, I was entrusting her with the momentous task of turning my clumsy, uncoordinated, anxiety-ridden self into something that might resemble a dancer. To be sure, that's exactly what she did. From our very first lesson Monica encouraged me to get out and dance socially, but I was incredibly timid, and my long history with social anxiety had me convinced I just was not ready. She helped me to work through that anxiety; in the most sincere and painless way possible. It was detailed instruction, confidence, and immense passion for dance that she delivered with each and every lesson. Weeks turned to months and my confidence on the dance floor grew. I approached each and every lesson with the same great enthusiasm for dance that Monica radiates with. I decided one night that I would go out and dance socially. I went to a club in Mountain View where I danced salsa and bachata all night. After the last dance of the evening, I was approached by a few of the ladies that I had danced with that evening. My dance partners that evening complimented my ability to lead and expressed their gratitude, and a few that I hadn't danced with approached to ask me how I learned to dance so well. In my following lesson with Monica, I don't know which of us was more excited for my progress. With each lesson Monica introduced new techniques, patterns and styling movements that complimented the last. Never did I get a feeling of stagnation or that our time was without structure or purpose. We would begin each lesson reviewing to different songs before elaborating upon something or moving on to something more challenging. Monica is very talented at recognizing just when to slow things down and incredibly receptive to requests. I thank her endlessly for her patience. I've since moved hours away and continuing my lessons with Monica is unfortunately, impractical. Yet everywhere I go dancing I've been complimented, "you lead that really smooth!", "I really enjoy dancing with you! I felt like I learned a lot!", and my favorite from another instructor, "wow, you have such a great frame!" I realize that this has been an unapologetically glowing review, and that is because I have every confidence that Monica will deliver the learning experience you're looking for. Her knowledge is rivaled only by her passion for teaching. I can say with confidence there is not another instructor to deliver the same value in terms of professionalism and progressive development. With her encouragement, I've taken lessons with other instructors. While yes, there's something new to be learned from everyone - I never once felt like I'd ever come close to skill ceiling I might attain by continued lessons with Monica.

My partner and I took dance lessons from Justin for about a year and a half. In the course of 20+ lessons, he took our rudimentary understanding of dance to a competitive level. I always felt like he was sensitive to our comfort level and made very complex styles and moves accessible to us. Few teachers have an understanding of club, international and competitive dance styles in the way that Justin does. He is a gifted, patient and extremely fun teacher.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.
