Galina is helping my son learn Spanish and she is wonderful! She is prompt, warm, friendly, speaks several languages and so knows how to teach kids trying to learn another language. He looks forward to his lessons with Galina!
Grace is a patient, fun, and dedicated tutor. My two girls enjoy their lessons with Grace. Grace has made it fun for them to learn. They originally started with after-school Chinese lessons at a learning center. Because of the larger classroom size, my kids were not corrected and only learned to copy really well. Grace has corrected their stroke order and established a strong foundation in their reading and writing. We don't speak Mandarin at home so next she will work on their conversation. I am so glad and fortunate to have found Grace!
I have taken Intermediate Level French Lessons with Marion from January through June 2016. Her lessons are well prepared and she is flexible with the material being covered. She is extremely punctual. My overall experience was great.
I worked with Camilla, she is very professional and prepared on Italian language teaching. I improved my fluent language thanks to her professionalism and attention occurred in her work. Good experience!!
Sophie is an amazing tutor. She begins by gaining a thorough understanding of what you hope to accomplish with the lessons and gives you materials and resources needed to help you to fulfill those goals. She is very organized and has a clear plan for each lesson. Her lessons are well explained with different types of exercises so it doesn't get boring. She encourages learning of French culture alongside the language, and as a native French speaker, her knowledge of expressions and details needed for true fluency is fabulous. She also understands school curriculums and AP testing very well to be able to help prepare for those. She was able to teach me what I wasn't learning well enough in school, and I feel much more confident after having her lessons going into my AP test. I highly recommend France@yours for anyone looking to gain fluency and a true understanding of French!
Angela is an incredibly patient and knowledgeable tutor. She works closely with the student to understand their goals for fluency and as the lessons begin to pick up momentum she skillfully identifies where individual trouble points are and how to effectively address them. She makes her lessons interactive and always brings in her cultural perspective to the lessons. I look forward to my weekly sessions with Angela.
Youlian's lessons are very well organized and planned, and she has an absolutely fantastic ability to explain the nuances and subtleties of day-to-day Mandarin. Every lesson includes listening comprehension, reading comprehension (I'm just using Pinyin for now but she covers Hanzi as well), and conversation practice, and Youlian always provides me with very helpful feedback.
I have been taking Spanish lessons from Ms. Price. She is incredibly personable, knowledgeable and helpful. My Spanish skills have soared since I've started with her. Very friendly, she is an excellent teacher. She knows where weak points are and knows how to explain advanced subjects in a way which is very understandable. I am definitely going to continue lessons and I highly recommend Ms. Price to anyone who is seeking to improve their language skills.
I took two spanish lessons with Cristian before learning I will be be relocating for work. During our sessions he was a great help introducing me to the Spanish language and challenging me to learn in new and improved ways! I only wish I could keep up the classes!!
I have a student of Tara for 2 months now. She is an excellent teacher who makes the lessons educational and fun. I highly recommend her if you want to learn French.
Minok Kim is always polite and professional. She is patient when explaining new concepts and always comes to our tutoring sessions prepared. I especially appreciate how she plans personalized materials for each lesson depending on what I need most.
I love taking lessons with Ilaria, she is a very sweet and smart woman that cares about us and with the patience and knowledge that a good teacher should have with their students.
Edgar was great to work with! I HIGHLY recommend his services! My son took lessons off & on for a couple of months before serving his full-time mission in Argentina & hands down it was the best investment we could do for him to help prepare him!
He is very experienced and knowledgeable. He keeps his lesson effective, engaging and fun. Our kids are able to stay focus and overcome their fear of writing. We definitely plan to keep working with Tim
Teacher Wan Wan comes prepared and knows the material to teach my son, and knows how to test him back to see if he absorbs the Chinese lesson well.
I can’t say enough about how great Laurence is as a French teacher. She is professional, very conscientious and is always focused on integrating new learning materials that she thinks will challenge me. She is also flexible - when I wanted to focus on a specific subject, she went out of her way to find relevant materials to use. She is always on time for lessons and again, is flexible if I need to change a lesson time. She is also incredibly kind and patient, and is a lovely person. I highly recommend Laurence as a French teacher.
Hope is an amazing tutor. She is very patient but firm with my daughter and provides encouragement throughout the sessions. My daughter truly looks forward to her time with Hope and makes every effort to have any additional assignments completed. This action from a teenager is a true testament to Hope's skills and her ability to nurture her students. So happy we found her and I would highly recommend Hope to all my family and friends.
Roslyn Raney has worked for the One-to-One Tutoring Service since 2004. She has tutored many students in French, German, and Spanish for our service very successfully. Adults who want to learn a language for travel purposes have been particularly impressed with her ability to teach them what they need to know to be able to converse successfully in the country they are traveling to. She also has tutored numerous high school students as well. I have received many positive comments from clients who worked with Roslyn. She came to our service having taught languages at the college level for a number of years at San Jose State and College of San Mateo.
Ian came over to my house once a week for two hours to tutor me in Japanese. He would teach me grammatical concepts, vocabulary, and about the Japanese culture. The lessons were very fun, and each session was packed with a lot of information. I really recomend his tutoring for those who want to learn Japanese. After only a few sessions in the summer, I was able to pass a Japanese placement test at my university very easily. Ian taught me in a few sessions what an entire semester would cover (at much less of a cost than a university course).
I met up with Johnny for my first lesson yesterday evening. It went even better than I expected. Here's my assessment. Administrative Style Johnny has been very professional and prompt. Johnny was the first to respond to my request for a quote. There were a total of 3 other quotes, but I value promptness so I went with him. He also continued to communicate quickly to setup what type of lessons I wanted, time, and location. He arrived early for the first lesson. Teaching Style Johnny asks me questions in a very polite way to understand what level of Chinese I am comfortable with. Then he starts the lesson. While observing my reaction to questions and my answers he tries to correct me where he can, but not in a stern or disruptive way. That helps us to continue with the lesson and progress. Towards the end of the lesson, he remembers all the details that I stumbled on and review them. That was a pleasant surprise. It shows how caring he is about what I need to improve on. Personality Johnny seems like a very professional and smart guy. However, he doesn't act arrogant or stern. I'm not sure how old he is, but he seems much more mature and experienced than his bio on Thumbtack might seem at first glance. I think I made a great choice with going with Johnny.
Yuki is an excellent teacher. I hired Yuki 7 months ago for Japanese lessons and have been studying with her ever since. Not only have I learned more than I expected, I have had fun while doing so. Yuki's ability to answer questions, correct mistakes and push me just enough beyond my comfort zone, all while offering encouragement and instilling confidence, creates an engaging, productive and enjoyable learning environment. In addition to her skill in teaching the language, Yuki shares a wealth of knowledge regarding Japanese culture and current events, regularly weaving this into our lessons. Many aspects of Japanese culture are reflected in how the Japanese language is used. Yuki's ability to blend language learning with cultural insight reinforces my understanding of both and provides a practical and realistic context for my developing language skills. I find this extremely valuable, especially when compared to other language learning experiences that rely primarily on exercises that are contrived and don't reflect how native speakers actually converse. One hallmark of an excellent teacher is their ability to understand and adapt to a student's needs and learning style. Yuki does this extremely well. During our very first lesson, she specifically asked what my motivation and goals are, what experience I've had with the language (if any) and how I like to learn. This was comforting and encouraging, since clearly she wanted to teach me in a way that worked well for me, not simply based on her preferred style of teaching or a "one size fits all" approach. It took me a while to realize that she was continuing to observe and adapt to my learning style months after that first meeting. As an example, I mentioned during a lesson that I was encouraged because I could often understand much of what Yuki would say in Japanese. She responded that she had purposely been speaking at full speed, as native speakers do, because she felt that I had progressed to the point where that was just enough of a challenge to help me learn without being too difficult to be discouraging. I can't remember how we had progressed to that point, but Yuki was clearly keeping track of my progress, where I was getting comfortable and where I was still challenged, and had adapted our lessons over time to what I needed at that moment. I highly recommend Yuki as a language teacher. She cares about her students and applies all of her knowledge and teaching skill toward helping them reach their individual goals. She creates a very supportive and comfortable environment, which is invaluable when learning a language. Her ability to integrate cultural insight and current events adds a depth to her language lessons that is not easy to find and makes her lessons more relevant, practical and engaging. Perhaps most telling of all, I have learned more than I expected and I have had a lot of fun doing it.
