I put in my request with Thumbtack Sunday afternoon. Within an hour he gave a quote and after my acceptance he said he would be able to fix it by Monday evening if the part suggested by my description was available. Early Monday he texted that the part was available and kept me informed about the time the technician would arrive. The job was completed by about 10PM on Monday and the washer now works fine. Previous attempts at dealer service over the years would take weeks. Many thanks to SF Bay Area Appliance Repair and to Thumbtack. Jim Half Moon Bay

I reached out to a few services for a washing machine repair quote and in my request, Alex was the only one who provided some info about an error I'm receiving. Alex replied with an explanation of a few options of what may be causing it and what it'll take to repair. He came out and provided an initial assessment and isolated the problem, provided me the part number and a few options on how we can source the part; either through him (he'll source it locally) or online; which I did. Once the part arrived, I contacted Ale and he came out on a Sunday evening to install the part. He didn't have to but was proactive and demonstrated a sense of urgency to ensuring my washer was fixed. Great service, very nice person and very knowledgeable; do not hesitate to contact Alex for your appliance repair needs.

Oh my goodness Nick and Pete are amazing!! My washer wasn’t working. It wasn’t spinning. I called Appliance Worx and got an appointment. They came right in the designated time slot and were very professional. As a woman, I always felt very safe with them in my home. And they did a great job! They removed some loose change that got stuck and by the time they left, everything was working great. I would definitely recommend them to anyone!

Our microwave, cooking range ignitor and hood needed repair. Ahmad was very professional and helped us repair all quickly. The microwave was inside the shelf and Ahmad did the job himself. They also have very reasonable pricing when compared to others. I’ll definitely contact Bay Master Appliances for our repair as well.

We originally called back on May 29th, he was super responsive and was able to come out immediately to repair our stove. He had to order parts and return 2 times to get it fixed correctly, apparently it was a complicated repair. He was honest, giving us back our money because of an incorrect diagnosis of the problem, but we would have liked to see more transparency about additional costs. Finally, after 6 long weeks, we have a working stovetop. He did keep working until he got it fixed!

Responded immediately at 10 pm and was able to schedule me in the next day. He was friendly, professional, and knowlegeable. I appreciated that he was honest that it would be more economical to replace rather than repair. I had a second repair need and he was able to repair that day. I would would definitely recommend Chad and call for future appliance repairs.

I was having problems with my washer. It was making loud noises and not spinning. One company had come out and wanted to charge me a large amount after looking at it for a second. I chose to look elsewhere. I was very happy with Patrick from Williams Brothers Appliance Repair. They were very reasonably priced and experienced. I highly recommend this company. Patrick was on time and very helpful in telling me how to make my washer last longer.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
      • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
      • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

      How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
