Charles Koppelman knows how to use the art and language of film to tell a compelling story, and brings his intelligence and creativity to everything he does. He tailors his approach to the topic at hand and the audience, knows how to select and get the best out of actors and interview subjects, and assembles a crack team of highly professional editors, camera people, sound technicians and the like to produce a beautiful package. He brings a Hollywood sensibility to his corporate projects, and also has mastered the documentary medium. He offers a full-service firm whose expertise extends beyond film to include graphic design, marketing and more.

My company hired Koppelman & Associates for a corporate event video. We were looking for professionalism and reliability, and Koppelman & Associates did not dissapoint. Our event took more time than anticipated, and the final video required detailed editing. Koppelman & Associates’s service throughout the process was thorough, and resulted in a great video at a very reasonable price. We will definitely use his service again.

Jim did an outstanding job of photographing our mock trial event. He was friendly and professional, very conscientious, and made sure that the photos he took were meeting our needs. It was important for our photographers to capture "moments" unobtrusively, and Jim did a terrific job in accomplishing that task. We will definitely hope to hire Jim next year and recommend him very highly.

I engaged Jeff Hoffman, who is a professional manuscript editor, not to edit an unpublished novel of mine, but to read it and give me his unbiased opinion - again, from a professional perspective - as to whether he felt it warranted me initiating the daunting process of trying to get it published. He did exactly that, squarely, forthrightly and honestly. And, to his great credit, he did not then try in any way to extend our engagement by offering to edit the piece. Instead he provided me with the url for the Editorial Freelancers Association and urged me to consider working with one of their registrants. I came away trusting Jeff thoroughly - and so pleased by him that I plan to engage him again in the near future to read and assess my second novel.

Karen S.

Verified review

Jeff was fantastic. He is knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. He met a quick turnaround (10 days) deadline to edit my book for content, structure, and grammar. I would recommend him, and will definitely use him again for future projects! As an author, I was seeking an editor who would work with my voice to bring it out more - not change it. Jeff brought a great balance of clarity and direction, while balancing and polishing my voice - not inserting his. After interviewing two other editors and working with one in the past, this seems a rarer commodity than it sounds. His fees are also comparable to industry competitors, and reasonable. I will definitely use Jeff again for future editing and feedback about my writing!

I am a non native English speaker. I was struggling with my comprehensive (thesis) paper. Laura helped me brain storm ideas for my paper, gave me constructive feedback, and helped me edit the paper. She spent a lot of one on one time with me and constantly stayed in touch with me. Laura is very caring and genuine and it shows in her work. She wasn't quite familiar with my topic (I am in healthcare), but she went above and beyond trying to understand what I was writing about so that she could help me best way possible. She is a great editor and a very sincere person. I am graduating this June and I may not need her help for academic papers, but I will always come to her for any writing and editing help. I will recommend her to everyone!

I recently needed to send a sensitive email to teachers and administrators at my college. It had to catch everyone's attention, explain a complicated issue, offend no one, and lead to action. After trying unsuccessfully to write it myself, I turned to Laura. She asked me some questions to clarify her understanding of the situation, and she quickly wrote exactly what I needed. Not only was it well-written, it was effective. The responses to the email were exactly what I had hoped for. Laura is personable, smart, and a good writer. She has been my go-to writer and editor for many years, and I recommend her highly.

Fritzie N.

Laura has written articles for the B'nai Israel Newsletter (I am the editor) and did an impressive job on each one. On one project, she interviewed the subject, did other research, and provided our publication with a most interesting and well-written feature article. I have also reviewed several of her published articles and have been impressed with both the quality of her writing and, her ability to tell a story effectively. She is creative in her approach to a project, combining a presentation of the information with a dramatic flair when it is appropriate.

Michael is an outstanding book editor. I've been working with him on my manuscript for the past two years. He excels in the intangibles, with terrific suggestions about improving a story's pace, character development and plot. So often when Michael suggests something, a lightbulb goes off in my head and I think: Of course! Why didn't I think of that? Beyond his uncanny ability to see where my story should be going, he also detects what's missing. This is a trait any writer wants to have in an editor--an ability to identify what needs to be added or expanded upon. Beyond his professional editing skills, Michael is consistently prompt and turns drafts around well within his promised timeframe. Michael is not only a great editor but he can, if needed, be a coach as well. He knows what his writers are going through, because he's a writer himself. He has been important to me in his coaching role, because he's helped me plow through the rough spots that are inevitable in completing something as complicated as a novel. He becomes a partner in getting the job done, and his words of encouragement and hope make all the difference.

Relieved, that's how I felt once I began working with Michael. I knew my story was solid, but needed help. From the beginning his feedback was invaluable. In written comments he helped me develop stronger three-dimensional characters, tighten the tone, pace, tension, and that all-important narrative voice. After his initial assessment I did the first of three rewrites. Each version was better. Michael was spot-on with suggestions of where I needed to restructure a scene or reflect a character's underlying motivation. He was so helpful with the big picture, offering specific examples and suggestions for how to improve. Honest but tactful, Michael was easy to work with, completely professional in reviewing the work and getting back to me in a reasonable period of time. I've worked with other editors and been less satisfied. Michael created a feeling of partnership on the project. I have no doubt my book is better because of our work, and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again

“In an industry that predicates itself on precision, and yet is too often overwhelmed by those who claim to have mastered it, yet are belied by their tendency to ‘dot their T’s and cross their I’s,’ Michael Mohr cuts through, clears the way, and, in the main, raises the bar. A delight to work with, Michael is that rare breed of editor who understands the literary merits of a work while keeping an eye (not the dotted variety; the kind that provides vision) on what the agency circuit looks for. Still, he doesn’t sacrifice those literary merits simply to satisfy the bottom line demands of the prevailing status quo. In practice, he’s actually providing editorial insights that raise the bar for agents as well. No question we will work with him again, or at least until writers run out of words to craft and commit to paper.” —Ralph Scott, managing partner/executive editor, EDITORO, LLC (

I have been working on my book for almost five years. Finally I have it at a place ready for editing. Samantha is currently working on my drafts. She is nice person who actually wants to help. She is not in the project just because its a job. I feel like she actually is interested in my work. I did not just want to hire a mechanical editor who plops out my work without caring. Samantha is someone that I feel cares and wants to actually help. She is a good pick.

If there's one thing I love about Marian, it's the clarity of her voice as a writer. Read anything she's written on her blog, and she basically leaps off the page. Marian helped me create copy and messaging for my own brand, and she helped me to find my own authentic voice as a business owner. On top of that, she's a pleasure to work with and an excellent editor. I can't recommend her highly enough!

I met Paul online by responding to his ad on Craigslist, and after interviewing him on the phone, immediately knew I would choose him as my editor. It took a year for me to be ready before I became his client. But once I completed my own final draft, I really enjoyed working with Paul on my project, and would recommend him to anyone who wants to hire a creative and brilliant editor who charges fair rates and is generous with his suggestions and advice. Paul and I are located on opposite coasts, but it worked out well because he is technically savvy enough to be able to work with me online regardless of distance. In this business, as in any other, honesty is the most important attribute. In the end, you want only two things from an editor: (1) your material to look polished; and (2) your piggy bank to be intact. There was no question about the first point, or I would have chosen a different editor. With regard to the second point, the electronic timer that ran on Paul's screen made his billing practice totally transparent. Once I was happy with the literary results, I went on to self-publish my book of Fairy Tales, check it out:

I originally found Paul on Craigslist when I needed an editor for a short business article I had written. It was immediately clear to me that he would be the perfect editor for a book I was writing about my connections to the world of popular music (The Grateful Dead, Willie Nelson, etc.). As soon as the article was finished, Paul and I began work on the book, which we completed recently: CALIFORNIA SLIM: THE MUSIC, THE MAGIC, AND THE MADNESS. It has a 5-star ranking on Amazon, and is a work that I can be proud of for the rest of my life. To see the book on Amazon, go to this link:

Paul challenged me as a writer, encouraging me to connect more directly and personally with my readers. His suggestions and criticisms were clear, wise, and eye-opening. I thank him for his intelligence, quiet dignity, and generosity of spirit. Throughout the process, he maintained a great sense of humor and clarity of direction—no matter what. Thank you, Paul, for your talent and your time. Every writer needs a Paul Weisser. (To see my book, BIRDS WITHOUT WINGS, click here:)

Erik and I worked together on a commercial for my old employer, Asian Food Grocer. He and I planned the commercial from the beginning- writing, staging shots, recruiting actors. At every step he was professional, resourceful, and exceptionally creative. The filming of the commercial went smoothly, and what really blew me away were his skills as an editor. And even though it was my project that I came to him with, he put in more hours than I did, and worked far beyond what I ever expected or asked for. I am incredibly happy with his work, and I hope his future projects only get bigger and better

I have worked with Jeff for the last three years, and he is, without a doubt, one of the best people I have ever had the opportunity to work with. As his supervisor, I worked with him closely, and he consistently delivered products that were high quality. He is always open to feedback, and embodied the voice of our organization in person and via communications (digital, social, etc.). He is passionate about social justice, education, the arts, and was a champion and ally for our students. His playfulness and professionalism made him an invaluable asset to our organization.
