Let me start off by saying, Andi is an incredible teacher. No, he is not magic; but he is capable of steering your guitar education in the right direction. I played guitar on-and-off for many years, it has been lackluster for the most part. Over the years, I’ve watched thousands of guitar lessons on the blackhole that is known as Youtube. Sure, I gained some knowledge, but in a very disjointed way that didn’t seem to push my guitar playing forward. My practice sessions were ineffective and I never seemed to follow a logical path to achieve my goals. I wonder how many self-taught guitarists are in the same boat? Then I started taking lessons with Andi. With some effort (and an instructor to motivate and direct), I begun to truly learn and understand things that I’d been too lazy to tackle in the past (modes, inversions, picking exercises). I’m somewhat embarrassed to say, until I took lessons with Andi; I never completely learned a song. I would pick up fragments of songs, and then move on to the next flavor of the week. Andi will spend weeks (if necessary) reviewing the material with you. He’ll break whatever solo or song you wish to learn down into bite-sized chunks; he’ll even send you slowed down mp3’s to help you learn the material. Trust me, this is very beneficial when learning the subtle nuances that make your favorite guitarist special (Prince, Nile Rodgers, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler). I have no way of really quantifying the improvement that happened while taking lessons with Andi, but my personal satisfaction has gone through the roof. My fingers and wrists are stronger, my technique has tightened, and my 16th note strumming is getting ridiculously funky these days. I could sing praises about Andi for days, but you don’t you want to try him out and see how it works for you.

Andi is a really awesome guitar instructor. I started guitar lessons with him with absolutely no experience playing an instrument or knowing how to read sheet music. But because he is really patient, knowledgeable, and at ease with teaching, I have been able to pick up how to play the guitar and reading the tab handouts he gives me after each lesson. He goes at the student’s pace and is willing to change his lessons to teach what new songs I want to learn. After each lesson I am always inspired and reminded why I wanted to take up guitar lessons in the first place. Andi was the very first instructor I met and I’m glad I did. I could not recommend him highly enough as an instructor.

Andi brought a superb understanding of music theory to his guitar instruction approach. I never thought i would benefit from taking the time to apply the theory but it really helped my playing! Thanks Andi !

Mark is an excellent guitar teacher. He not only teaches practicing guitar skills, but also talks about the theory behind the music and guitar, which makes it easy for me to understand what I'm doing, and really intrigues my interests towards guitar. The lesson environment is great. It is in Mark's studio where there are keyboard, drums, and a big screen around, which makes me feel really nice.

I've recently started taking beginner guitar lessons from Mark. So far it's been a great experience, even with my zero musical background. Mark really focuses on making the experience fun and identifies well how to motivate me as an individual, by teaching me songs I'm passionate about and making me understand how the music I like was made. I can only recommend him as a teacher.

Mark tailored his response to exactly what I was looking for. When contacted, he was extremely professional and we were able to schedule a guitar lesson with him within a short amount of time. The first lesson went really well and we look forward to future lessons.

Garrick Davis is is easily the most artistic, fun, and creative guy I know. I have been taking lessons from him for four years now and if there is any thing I can say about him is that he is a great person and a wonderful roll model. Don't doubt him for a second he has amazing skills with the guitar and he will never leave you in the dust. He is grate at teaching you not only the song but each and every thing there is to know about each and every cord. He doesn't just teach you how to play songs, he teaches you how to play guitar.

Marilee S.

Garrick is very patient and engaging with our 7yo son. Our son loves his guitar lessons and wants to play. He's the real deal with his own gigs and he teaches using music we love. Garrick gets 5 stars because he unexpectedly requested to join us when we purchased our guitar, picked an appropriate used(!) one with metal strings and had it modified to bring the frets in closer for small fingers. His lessons feel customized. We recommend Garrick!

He has offered a great mix of fun and technique during lessons and my son was quickly able to play songs and enjoy playing his instrument. I would highly recommend Garrick as a teacher.

I have been taking guitar lessons from David Williams for a few months now. I always look forward to my classes with him. He is a professional who is patient and understanding. Besides instructing me on guitar, he is also teaching me how to sing! He teaches me what I need to learn on the guitar in order to advance my knowledge. He is also open to me bringing in songs I want to play. He is a supportive teacher who is sincerely interested in his student's learning. He breaks down complicated musical concepts in a step by step process that enhances student confidence and mastery. I highly recommend David Williams.

I would recommend Dylan to anyone looking for guitar lessons for themselves and their children! He is wonderfully patient and very knowledgeable. He will work with you on any song you like and use it to teach technique and theory, thus making it a lot more interesting. We moved about 1.5 hours away and still prefer making the trek for lessons over finding someone local to us!

I purchased bass guitar lessons for my Dad with Dylan. Dylan was very thoughtful and responsive. My Dad has had 3 lessons so far and loves it. He had been learning on his own and says things make sense now and he also appreciates the music theory that Dylan incorporates into the lessons. He and I recommend Dylan.

My daughter was having difficulty with piano lessons and decided to try the flute in sixth grade instead. Ms. Vargas was recommended to us and fulfilled all our expectations. She helped my daughter get over her conviction that she was unable to read music and inspired her to continue with her flute lessons until she graduated from high school. She made sure all her students had the traditional recitals to polish their work, but also made the time for those interested to play at coffee houses and other venues at Christmas time. She supported them in school competitions and customized her teaching to the students interests as well as needs. Although my daughter is now 24, she still plays her flute at times and has added the guitar.

Mark is an exceptional guitar teacher. I came to him when I was "relearning" guitar, after about a 12 year hiatus from when I initially learned to play. His teaching style is simultaneously relaxed and laser-focused, which makes for enjoyable lessons that also really help me to achieve significant progress week over week. He gives great, specific feedback and it's always in a positive context. His own guitar playing is amazing, and his knowledge of music and music theory is expert-level. He is always very flexible in terms of focusing on what is most important to me -- he easily shifts gears between teaching me fundamentals, to working on specific songs I'm learning to play, to helping me understand chord theory and musical notation, to giving me feedback and help in arranging songs that I am writing. I have worked with a lot of music teachers over the 35 years that I have sung and played music (guitar, piano, clarinet, and voice) and Mark is the best of the best. His lessons are worth so much more than what he charges -- every session is master class level.

I began lessons with Mark as an adult who had been soured on music lessons as a kid. I was a 3 chord player (not a good one) who wanted to learn music and the instrument. Mark has patiently made me a better player (and better appreciator of music) than I would have thought possible. He is a master at teaching the fretboard, chord construction, how to deal with difficulties and how to enjoy what you are doing. I know now more theory than I thought possible. Picking up the guitar is now one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things I do, and I have Mark to thank.

Marie D.

I took bass lessons with Mark, and wish I'd taken them a lot sooner in my musical career! I was resistant to learning theory (wanted to keep playing by tabs, like a dork) but Mark really knows how to break it down and make it non-arduous. Very patient, great sense of humor, too. Highly recommended.

I have had guitar lessons with John Lewis for two months now and I have to say without a doubt, he has exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only is he a very talented musician, he also possesses a rare talent for communicating and teaching guitar and musical concepts that are sometimes hard to grasp. He is patient, kind, encouraging, inspirational, and very creative in his teaching style. He knows how to judge exactly how much information I can handle at one time and I never leave feeling overwhelmed. He always makes the lessons interesting, challenging, and FUN! I am so grateful to have found this wonderful teacher and I highly recommend him to anyone from beginner to advanced. He truly is the Best of the Best!!!

About Jerry: Jerry knows bass. He knows technique, he knows theory, he knows gear, he knows music history (past and present). Most importantly, he knows how students learn bass and thus he is able to tell you what you need to know and what to practice in oder to improve. My Experience: Jerry immediately found the holes in my technique and gave me a few lessons in bass theory that I hadn't already figured out by trial-and-error and applying theory from other instruments. He gave me exercises to work on to improve my chops and get my playing to a higher technical level. He taught me about the intricacies of the bass instrument and the gear associated in creating bass tone. He gave me songs and bass players to listen to and play along to in order to get the basslines I wrote sounding more mature and appropriate for the style/genre of their songs. And all the while he would immerse me in the culture of bass. Turning me on to the history of the instrument, the evolution of how it has been played through the years, the different styles of playing and how they fit into each genre, and of course the great players of the past and present. His body of knowledge around bass is just staggering. About Me: I'd been playing bass for fun for about 10 years at jams and also for about 6 months in an americana band. I'm also a serious keys player and know my music theory solid. Then I started playing bass in a funk/soul band with more technical players and realized I needed to develop some serious chops to keep up. I chose Jerry because he wasn't a guitar-player teaching bass, he's a died-in-the-wool bass player who had been teaching for years. I wanted a specialist, not someone who was going to teach me basic theory.

Steve H.

Verified review

Jerry was very charismatic and knowledgeable about bass guitar. I've played guitar for a few years and recently picked up a used bass, and I took several lessons with Jerry to explore the fundamentals of bass playing. He quickly pointed out some problems in the way I played coming from guitar and pushed me to improve so I could play better and help protect myself from injuries. He also worked with me to improve the feel of my bass playing, that hard-to-describe quality that clearly separates a good player from a weak one. I'm glad I found Jerry and he got me on the right path!

Have enjoyed our two lessons so far. Jerry is very knowledgeable and makes it fun and interesting. He's able to hold the attention of my 8 yr-old son (a total beginner) for the entire hour, and I get a lot of out of the instruction as well!

I have experimented with music (guitar and harmonica) for a number of years without any direction or form and I'm so blessed to have found Cherie. She creates a relaxing environment where I can focus and understand basic music theory, she makes it comprehensive which others have not been able to do up to this point. And I have now expanded into a new area in my music lessons with voice training. Each lesson gives me more confidence and assurance in my playing and singing. I highly recommend Cherie. Cherie is a great instructor. Before I started lessons with her I was trying to teach myself and found that I’d hit a wall, just wasn’t getting where I wanted to be, she helped me out of that rut. She opened up my options by laying down the basics, then expanded my palette based on where I wanted to go with songs and guitar. She likes to balance what she calls the weigh-lifting of guitar and the fun stuff - exercises and songs. I never felt bored or very frustrated. She pays attention. I really felt she was teaching me what I needed to learn. She also teaches singing lessons and we worked a bit on my vocals during our guitar lessons. Was a nice add-on. She’s a pro and very easy to work with.

Seth is exactly what I was looking for. My boys love music and have learned a tremendous amount from Seth, ranging from taking a guitar solo at a live gig to taking the microphone and singing with gusto. My 8 year old takes private drum lessons for less than a year, and we are impressed by how many beats he now knows. It is clear that Seth loves what he does. He is skilled at relating to children and getting them excited to play music. He is fun and light and that carries over I'm his teaching style. We couldn't be happier and highly recommend him.

We first met Seth when we signed our son Mark up for Bandworks. We were so impressed with Seth's energy, patience and infectious love for music that we signed Mark up with Seth for private drum lessons. Seth is a wonderful teacher, especially with young children. He is incredibly patient and encouraging, and always makes the lessons fun and relevant. We are now in our second Bandworks session with Seth, and Mark couldn't be happier. We would highly recommend Seth to anyone who's serious about learning (and loving) their craft.

I watched Forrest grow up playing guitar on his porch across the street from my house. I remember how beautiful his music was, and how much he inspired me to want to play, so I went to the store and purchased a guitar and some instructional tapes, and books, and had a go at learning on my own. I found that self teaching was rather ineffective, so I decided to look for a teacher. The first person who came to mind was Forrest. Turns out he had been teaching guitar for 2 years at that point and was more than willing to take me under his wing! What turned into a few months of going over fundamental chords, turned into four years of lessons! He is the sweetest boy, with the biggest heart.

I absolutely LOVE working with Michael and learning guitar from him. I've tried many times to learn before, and it's never quite stuck. Michael has a way of making difficult concepts seem easy and I'm finally able to grasp music theory. It's always challenging learning something new because I (as I'm sure a lot of people do) feel silly when I mess up or a little dumb if I don't do something right, and Michael makes me feel comfortable and able to make mistakes and try new chords or scales, or whatever it may be. I HIGHLY recommend hiring Michael if you want to learn guitar or just improve your skills!

I've been taking lessons from Ken for over a year and he's helped me enormously improve my improvisational technique, learn a variety of different styles, and gain confidence soloing. He's also a fantastic repository of musical knowledge, providing new and unusual charts from classical to Brazilian choro to gypsy jazz, or coming up with hip arrangements of familiar tunes. He also provides helpful practice aids such as audio backing tracks and written-out solo ideas. As an intermediate jazz musician that plays in a group, I have been focused on building a repertoire and becoming a better accompanist, soloist, and improviser. I recommend Ken as a great teacher for anyone trying to do the same.
