UpRock has excellent musicians and awesome music teachers! Everyone I've met there is thoughtful, caring, knowledgeable and patient. Both of my kids love lessons at UpRock and have been eagerly attending for almost a decade. They love going, not just to learn music, but for the fun, encouraging yet professional atmosphere. That's wonderful because they've both benefited in many ways, some we've only realized now that they're older and face bigger and more complicated challenges.
He has found a way to make learning piano fun for my kids. I am so thankful, no more complaining about practicing and I enjoy hearing the pop songs they are learning!

Our son has been in drum lessons with Scott for almost 2 years now. Scott is fantastic. He is extremely patient and encourages our son if he gets distracted or frustrated. Our son has made significant progress and we would highly recommend his service.
So far, Lelia was great for the first few drum lessons. We're looking toward for upcoming lessons with her. My son seems to enjoy his first drum lesson with Lelia. I hope Lelia can continue to inspire him to enjoy music and to play drum.
Thanks Nate for the excellent lessons! Eric learned so much and was extremely confident transferring what he learned to his classroom band sessions. I chose Nate over Watermelon music because I wanted my son to be comfortable and have fun while learning. All of my son's 7th grade teachers are young, dynamic, engaging, and excited about teaching. Nate was exactly what I was searching for. He is extremely professional, knows his music, and is passionate about his teaching. I sincerely recommend him! Thanks again Nate!
Craig and Mandee are really great people. Craig makes the lessons a lot of fun for kids! We highly recommend.

My name is Mickey Martin, and I'm a Woodland based musician with many years of drumming experience. I teach at all levels: beginning, intermediate and advanced, children and adults. I teach most any style, rock (new or retro), jazz, big band/swing, surf, pop, reggae, funk, Latin, country and western, etc. My emphasis is on technique (grip, stroke, and posture), rudimental exercise (sticking patterns), reading skills and performance, whether applied to drum set or snare drum (especially useful for school or marching band). After seeing The Beatles on TV as a kid, I knew I wanted to be a drummer. My older brothers were already in bands in the '60s, as backup for Sonny and Cher as well as their own records as "Thomas and Richard Frost," playing with artists like Lydia Pense, The Count 5, Grass Roots, Chocolate Watchband and many others. I studied for 3 years with world-famous musician-producer Narada Michael Walden (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celene Dion, Aretha Franklin, Mahavishnu Orchestra and others) and for 10 years with Mike Curotto in the SF Bay Area. Most recently, I taught drums at Guitar Center Studios in San Mateo, CA, for 3 years. I play guitar and bass as well, which helps when performing in group situations. However, drums are my love! I've played hundreds of gigs in all genres and situations, sharing the stage with artists like The Tubes, Y&T, Chris Issak, The Doobie Brothers, Jackson Browne, The Turtles, Buddy Miles, Joe Satriani, Jerry Lee Lewis, Super Diamond, John McLaughlin, Eric Johnson, Steve Morse, Tony Williams and many others. Some of my favorite drummers and influences are John Bonham, Keith Moon, Tony Williams, Bill Bruford, Lenny White, Billy Cobham, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Narada Michael Walden, Steve Gadd, Airto, Cindy Blackman, Johny Barbata, Dino Danelli, Vinnie Coliuta, Dennis Chambers and so many more! I'm currently in the group "Powder," a '60s Brit pop-influenced band, playing extensively in the SF Bay Area and Northeast Portland/Seattle area, with gigs in London and Spain as well. I believe in the physical aspect of drumming as well as spiritual (think drum yoga) to bring out the best of your abilities and develop skills. However, the point of all this hard work and practice is to have fun because drumming is fun! So, no matter if you are just starting out, need some help with school band, an adult brushing up on his chops, or just want to have fun, I can help! I teach out of my home in Woodland but am available to teach at your location within 15 miles, including Davis, Dixon, West Sac or Vacaville. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

I teach introduction to the drum kit and how to unlock the power of drumming. I teach all students the basics of reading drum music because its a must have savings account of never ending drum beats and patterens that one can flavor with their own personality. Also i teach the basics of how to tune the drums because if the drums sound sour it dosent matter how well you can play, the drummer is also part of the sourerness, in our studies we will cover the basic drum rudiments wich are required by most drum & bugle corps, marching bands, school bands, college stage bands ect, ect, the drum rudiments are very essentental to balance playing , (the left hand challenges the right hand) in the end they should come out 100% equal in performance. Every student or client will be equiped with these basic beats jazz, gospel, rock&roll, blues and r&b, country, funk, my instruction success is 100%. I was also Awarded and Voted for as the Best Blues Drummer U.S.A. two (2) yrs in a row by Westcoast Blues Review Magazine. I have a wide range of experience in the musical field, (from touring drummer, to music producer, to songwriter, to band director) therefore can bring a wide range of wisdom to my lessons at an individual level. I also work best in a one-on-one environment. I am very discerning when it comes to figuring out what a student needs to learn, as well as very patient and persistent in helping the student achieve that. It is a combination that has won me many accolades in the education field over the years.
