Jerry was great! He was quick to respond to my somewhat last minute request (5 days prior to the move), he arrived on time, and was definitely a professional. Jerry and my boyfriend unloaded the whole 15' moving truck and put it in my new apt. in an hour. My boyfriend stopped about half way to start assembling the bed so we could bring in the other pieces needed, and Jerry did the rest mostly by himself with dollies. We had rented dollies from Uhaul with our truck, but Jerry also brought his own dolly to help. He was very careful with our wood furniture and not to hit walls or damage the wood floors, all while being very speedy. Jerry was also a really nice guy and great to chat with as we moved. I would highly recommend Jerry to anyone looking to move! I will definitely be calling him first next time we move. Great price, quality work, great guy. Thanks Jerry!

Ricardo's 2-man team (led by Mario) was absolutely the best. They showed up early, and even though we were still only 75% finished packing, they got right to work. They securely wrapped and packaged all our furniture, disassembled what needed to be disassembled and then reassembled everything without doing any damage to our new house or furniture. Kudos to Mario for expertly backing his large moving truck in reverse down our narrow sloping driveway! Would definitely hire these guys again!

Very professional, wrapped our upright Steinway piano up in blankets and plastic, and used two dollies and a sled to load it into their moving truck. Secured it with a special piano seatbelt, and moved it up and down a few stairs leading up to my doorstep. All with just 3 days' notice! Would recommend them!

MEAA movers was fantastic. They reached out with an estimate and I was booked for my move immediately. They were very professional, transparent, and hard working - they took care of my move quickly and took great care of my belongings. John and his crew were fantastic and the best value around by far!

If I could give Albion Moving 10 stars, I would. They are by far the best movers we've used so far, and we plan on using them in the future as well. They came on time, and got straight into moving our furniture. We have some pretty heavy pieces and all of them got moved without any fuss. Most of our upholstered furniture is also white, making it more challenging to move. We got all furniture delivered to our new home, spotless, and without any dings or other structural damage. Two thumbs up for Albion Moving!

The movers were all nice guys and they were pretty professional in protecting my furniture. I would use them again so long as they could provide a larger moving vehicle. They used a trailer towed by a van, which, despite several long discussions with the owner ended up being about 1.5 trips to get everything. Overall a great team just wish they had a larger truck.

I would use them again. I moved 50 miles from San Francisco to San Jose. I chose them because they were quickest at the initial response, answering questions, and communication throughout the actual move. They also have a reasonable price (keep in mind, Double Drive Time is the standard for movers in California, so if the driving portion takes an hour, you’ll be charged for two hours). I liked them because the two movers were efficient and knew what they were doing (small things like wrapping everything in plastic wrap, using blankets, helping to pack things in boxes; standard stuff.) As far as I can tell, nothing was damaged during the move. They also had an extra seat in their moving truck so that I could ride with them from SF to San Jose. The only complaint I had is that the move was scheduled for 10am, but they showed up at 8:30am and said the time window was from 8-10, and this wasn’t communicated to me clearly during the initial conversation. However, I was still happy with the whole process. Thanks guys!

Micaheal and Jason are two nice gentlemen with a very clean truck. They moved fast but still very carefully. Didn't make any scratch on my furnitures or walls. Great work! The price is also pretty good. With a little bit extra fee, they even handled the giant old sofa and other stuff for me.

We were moving out of one location to move into another - and it's not until you start packing and loading the truck when you realize how much stuff you really have. Nevertheless, Nick and Jason were troupers all the way to the last item! They arrive slightly before the scheduled 10am move and we surveyed the apartment to see what all would be leaving that day. It was certainly enough for two trips; as we discovered later. They moved us in by 5:30 and we planned for next year's move - jokingly of course. Great work guys!

overall lots of care to packing our large art and piano. One thing that was a bit disconcerting - a very expensive and brand new Briggs and Riley suitcase was packed by them and somehow never made it out of the box. Also, pack your own wardrobe boxes. They stuff a whole bunch of other things in with the clothes and about 1/2 of my professional and dry cleanables were totally smashed and wrinkled and I had to have them re-pressed and cleaned. Also, a brand new blouse had it's sleeve sticking out of the wardrobe box and was snagged, thus ruined. And the tag was still on it! Also, make sure that you get an accurate bid from them. They grossly under-bid our job and were over halfway through the packing procedure before they let us know they needed another truck. This made the total bid go up by at least 1/3 of the total. What were we going to do? Say, "never mind! unload the truck?" Not likely. The other thing is that one of their moving trucks left a huge oil stain on our brand new driveway. It wasn't the fault of the truck, but an operator error. Phone service was great, but when we talked to them about compensation for the driveway, the shirt and the suitcase, they said to file a claim. I hope they honor it, but when we talked with them about the suitcase, the first few phone calls, they remembered it, but by the 4th or 5th call, they denied ever having seen it, even though I was specific about that suitcase during packing because I had intended to use it for a business trip a couple of weeks after the move. I wish I would have moved it myself. I do have a picture of the suitcase in context of the other items that needed to be packed, but it then becomes a case of "he said she said." We shall see. Claim will be submitted. If they make it right, I will give them 5 stars.

Jose and his guys were awesome. They showed up on moving day and within minutes of arriving got to work on hauling our stuff. They worked tirelessly and were very careful with our belongings. They were kind and professional and super flexible with our strange multiple apartment-shuffling move. One of the guys even noticed an elderly neighbor struggling to move a trunk to her car and he quickly offered to help her. We would recommend them (and use them again) in a heart beat!

Nicolas was easy to work with, was not only on time, and was friendly. He and his other mover did a great job picking up furniture for me in another city, then brought it to me. They also helped me move furniture around after just moving in a week ago. I would definitely use them again.

Alex and company are amazing! We were being strung along by our big-name moving company, and needed to be in Missouri to start a new job. After yet another delay, and yet another "guarantee", we were desperate and found AmerApex Moving. Alex contacted us on a Monday and by Thursday, they were there! They were absolute lifesavers, and did everything they could to take care of our belongings and make us feel at ease. And then they were in Missouri by Saturday to unload everything in our new house! On top of that, they are incredibly friendly and made a stressful situation feel much lighter. We can't thank Alex enough, and wish every moving company out there could be half as professional and effective as his!

Very nice people, nice company, reliable. Go for it. I went with a dedicated truck option and I don’t regret it. Never used a moving company in the states, only when I move here from France. I highly recommend. Both, they were so charming and helpful, as they transformed a “scary moving” in a smooth operation… Perfect move !

Renan was a HUGE Help. Moving is at best a very very bad thing to do on a tight schedule. It’s safe to say our move wouldn’t be happening on time without Renan’s help. I only wish he was available on the other end to help unpack... thanks for all the help!

Robert responded quickly when I called him, and we were able to work out timing and pricing through email and phone. We set a date for pick-up and they arrived on time and quickly loaded my stuff - despite a parked car blocking their most direct route. Arrived on time at my new location - again, communicating exact timing, etc. by text. They scoped out my storage unit, and calculated how to get everything in. I had lots of random delicate things, all of which arrived intact. Robert and his crew were careful and speedy. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
