Jim got straight to work. Usually, first lessons I walk away with nothing but Jim gave me drills. Jim wanted to teach me about golf not just to see where I was in my golf game. I will be continuing my work with Jim he is amazing.

Ron is professional, personable, and very knowledgeable about fitness, the golf swing and the game itself. On the range, he's great at breaking down a swing and giving you information you can understand, absorb & execute, helping you maximize your ability (regardless of how limited that may be, like in my case). As a player, he understands how to manage a course and is great at showing you how to work your way around and play to your strengths, lowering your scores. He does the same with your diet and exercise regimen (or lack thereof). Small tweaks here and there that build upon each other, helping you feel and perform better than you thought possible - not just in golf but in life. SO happy I found top caliber coaching with Ron - such a deal!

For the past 20 years I have taken dozens of lessons from golf pros in an attempt to not only improve but enjoy the game more as well (I suppose they go hand in hand). Rarely did I take a second lesson from any one of them. They just weren't helpful. Then I saw a flyer about a golf clinic that Ric was doing near my home and I decided to give it one more try. EUREKA! Ric has a special gift for taking each person where are they skill-wise and incrementally improving their skills. By the end of the 6th lesson I gained confidence and competence. Whereas before I wouldn't play with others who I didn't know out of embarrassment, now I can play with other intermediate players. I'll never be on the pro tour because I don't have a lot of natural talent, but thanks to Ric I do enjoy the game and have the tips and tools I need to play. Without hesitation I recommend Ric, and so does everyone else I've met who have taken lessons from him. On top of being a top notch coach he's a genuinely nice human being.

I have been to several golf coaches but this experience was exactly as all the testimonials on the website said. The first thing Jay asked was, "What changes would you like to see in your swing today?" I asked for consistency. He had an answer immediately, like he had said it a million times before! When he explained the essential parts to a repeating golf swing, it made perfect sense and I began hitting the most repeatable shots ever. Before our time ran out, he showed me, on his computer, what things we would work on in our next session to improve my swing even more. Looking forward to becoming a single digit handicap. If you are shopping for a golf coach, start here. He has a money back guarantee, you can't beat that!

I hired Rendy to teach my granddaughter Kylee improved swimming strokes as well as how to dive. Kylee is 8 yrs old, and loved working with Ms. Rendy. She is a true professional, very experienced, and great with kids. Rendy was always on time and had a happy and positive attitude. If you need a trainer for yourself or your children, you should definitely hire Rendy!

Bob is an exceptional golf trainer. He takes whatever natural skills you already possess and implements small changes with immediate results. His way of teaching and thinking about golf is unconventional and superior to any other pro I've seen. He uses a method that he created based on key basics and fundamentals to get you the most efficective results. His method proves that golf shouldn't be mechanical, but more a feel game and effortless. He made me a believer and my game has never been better.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What makes a good golf instructor?

A good golf instructor is someone who has the playing skill you’d like to achieve, is qualified to teach golf, and is someone you can get along with. Some experts recommend you only take golf lessons from coaches with active accreditation from reputable associations such as the PGA, LPGA, or similar organizations that focus on continuing education. You’ll be spending hours out on the green with the pro during lessons, so a good rapport, strong communication and the right personality fit are key. A proven track record is also important. Read reviews from their current and former students to make sure they have helped people achieve their golfing goals, and always ask about the instructor’s experience before signing on for lessons. Years of providing lessons can contribute to a deeper understanding of how to teach the sport. Just because your friend or partner is great at golf doesn’t mean they’ll give good golf lessons. Invest in a professional golf instructor who knows how to teach the sport from short game to full swing.

What age should you start golf lessons?

Golf lessons for kids can start as early as age four or five. They’re too young for formal training, but you can keep them interested and engaged and give them a feel for the game. U.S. Kids Golf recommends starting formal training for junior golfers at six years old. It’s important for young golfers to swing clubs that are the right length and weight for their body; U.S. Kids Golf provides a fitting guide.

Golf lessons for kids, especially young kids, should be about encouraging success rather than correcting mistakes, according to U.S. Kids Golf. If you want your child to love golf for life, you want their early experiences to be positive. Golf lessons for kids are less expensive than golf lessons for adults. A monthly rate (including four lessons) for group golf lessons for kids may average $100. Semi-private golf lessons for kids may range from $150 to $200 per month. Location and instructor reputation can also affect cost. Often, discounts are provided when multiple months are purchased at one time.

How much are golf lessons?

Golf lessons are a great way to break into the sport or take your golf game to a new level. The national average cost for golf lessons is $50-$60, but prices will vary based on what type of lessons you want. The most expensive golf lessons will be private instruction with top-tier coaches. These are golf instructors who have held high professional ranking and have a good reputation. Regardless of who is teaching, private instruction is always more costly than couples’ lessons or small group lessons (usually up to four people). Teachers often offer a lower price per lesson when you buy a package of several lessons at one time. Here are some examples of average golf lesson costs:

  • Individual lessons:
    • Standard pricing for 60-minute private lesson: $60.
    • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $100.
  • Couples’ lessons:
    • Standard pricing for 90-minute duo lesson: $100.
    • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $125.
  • Golf lesson package pricing:
    • Purchase six individual lessons at one time and save $10.
    • Purchase 10 individual lessons at one time and save $40.
    • Purchase six couples’ lessons at one time and save $40.
    • Purchase 10 couples’ lessons at one time and save $200.
