Mina was on time and did the diagnostics for a problem I was having with my washer. He gave me the repair estimate and deducted the service call amount from the estimate. I called him later to hire him. He ordered the parts and came 2 days later to repair the washer. The charge was much less than what I had read online was the cost for this repair. Mina was thorough and professional. I would definitely hire him again!

Used him twice. First was for a dryer repair, and second time was for a couple of electrical needs. Very happy with the results, and I'd use him again for similar work. He quoted me a price each time and that was what I paid. He was a bit later showing up than the time we discussed, but that wasn't a big issue.

I got an extremely prompt response from Sam's Services when I first sent my request out in Thumbtack. I was able to make an appointment for the day and time I wanted. The day of my appointment I received a message that the technician was on the way. He came to the door and introduced himself and put on shoe covers to protect my floors. He had the parts needed to fix my dishwasher door and it was done quickly and perfectly. He had me check to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. I had thought of another appliance that I needed an adjustment to and he was able to do that on this visit, too. My dryer door needed to be changed so that it opened from the other side. No parts were needed, but it took some time and effort. This was done with care and then I was again shown what had been done and to make sure all was to my satisfaction. I was very satisfied with the service and would use Sam's Services again and also recommend Sam's Services for anyone requiring an appliance repair and they also do HVAC service.

I can recommend OC Home Appliances . My dishwasher stopped cleaning the dishes and I thought the motor might be going out. I called them and left a message after hours. Nick called me back the very next morning and scheduled an appointment the next day. Nick arrived promptly, listened carefully to what I had to say about the problems, and started right to work. He disassembled the unit and discovered that over time the particular brand of dishwashing soap I'd used had caked into a solid hard mass that had literally stopped up all of the sprayer and works. It was a particular problem he'd seen with the water in my area and this particular soap's (cascade) composition. Nick was very personable and pleasant; and I appreciated that he showed me everything that was wrong and explained how he could fix it. He disassembled the unit, dug all the gunk out, reassembled everything, tested the unit, cleaned up after himself and made a recommendation for a different brand of soap, rinse agent, and dishwasher cleaning that worked better and would prevent this from happening again. (The brand "Finish", which I've started using, it's worked like a charm and my glasses are actually clear again!) I felt he charged a very fair price for the work done. It's been a couple weeks since the visit and the dishwasher has continued to work as it should and my dishes are clean again. I would call them again for any future appliance issues.

Ed is a good overall technician/handyman. Replaced the electrical outlets as promised late in the day. Reasonable rates. Came back the next day to re-install a dishwasher and add a trim. It looks beautiful. The previous installer made a mess. I would call Ed again for projects around the house.

Sam, who came to repair my refrigerator was prompt and excellent with communication. He explained to me what the problem was and how he was going to fix it. Less than an hour later my refrigerator was functioning as expected. He even looked at my dishwasher for free of charage. Thanks so much guys! Highly recommended.

Mr. T. was awesome. Punctual, professional, and personal. Had a few things left on my "to do" list that hadn't been done. I couldn't make the time and didn't have the expertise/experience so decided to go with Mr. Tyner's services based on his reviews. Handled issues with our dishwasher, garbage disposal, and dryer. Definitely will contact him as needed. A great decision. He was very knowledgeable and practical. Highly recommended!

Power surges suck! Just the other day a car crashes into a power pole around the corner from where I live and the resulting surge from the exploding transformer burned through every charger and clock I had plugged directly into the wall as well as my fridge, oven and washer. I decided to give OC Appliance Masters a call and make an appointment for him to check things out the next day. I get a nice two hour window vs the 4 hour window that I've been accustomed to from previous experiences with professional service guys for fixing HVAC, electric, plumbing, cable etc. I spoke to Nick and he says he can call an hour or half an hour before the arrival time. Another plus. I was going to be home all day so I was okay with the half hour heads up call. On the day of the service Nick calls me earlier than expected and says he was able to finish his earlier appointment and if I'm available he can come earlier. I'm all for that! Who enjoys biding their time waiting for a service person? Not me. The sooner the better plus my fridge wasn't getting any cooler. When he arrives, he was a whirling dervish of information regarding possible culprits for what could be ailing my appliances and is listing them out as he's working on my fridge. He tells me he was a electrical engineer and will find out what the problem is. It turned out it was the controller board and he was able to give me an estimate immediately without saying he'd have to check the price for the part etc. This was a nice change from the other guys I've dealt with that don't say a word and have to crunch the numbers. What it told me was that he had experience with this issue before. He also had the part on hand and could get the unit back and running in no time. I was sold. After that, he also serviced the fridge's coils, at no extra charge, which were cluttered up with years of cat fur which he was shocked at seeing as he opened up my fridge's service panel. The next item he looked at was my stove/oven. Given what he saw with my fridge, his prognosis even before opening the stove/oven was that it would be expensive and I could be better off looking for a new oven but we'll look anyway. Turns out he was right. The digital display panel and control board were shot and would cost $700 if I wanted to have it fixed. Thank you for your honesty. Finally the dishwasher. Lo and behold, same problem as the others, burned out control board. Good news was that it was more reasonable to fix and wasn't going to cost as much as a new unit. Bad news was he didn't have the part on hand but we arranged for him to get the part and return to fix it later next week. The biggest take away from him during the service call was the preventative advice from Nick. Place ALL your expensive appliances on a SURGE PROTECTOR from now on. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me and this includes even when I was living in Denver and we would have some nasty thunderstorms that would cause power fluctuations like nobody's business so it never occurred to me to put anything except my computer and entertainment system on a nice surge protector. That's all changed now. All in all, it's hard finding a trustworthy appliance repair person. I read some of the positive reviews as well as the negative reviews of the well reviewed appliance service techs for the area and decided to take a chance with OC Masters and I'm very pleased with the results. I'm also glad that I'm dealing with a family owned and operated business since Nick and his brother are the guys who are doing all the work. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Omar was very reasonably priced, on time, got the work done as schedule. His work was perfect and our freezer is working properly now. Omar also fixed a minor repair on our dishwasher that we thought was going to cost a lot of money, but not with Omar around. He is a very pleasant man and we enjoyed his company as well. Definitely will hire again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
