I will ALWAYS ask for Mars One Heating and Air Conditioning whenever I have a need. No use asking anyone else when the professional you are working with is of as high quality as Mars. I almost wish I had other problems just to be able to call Mars for help. It's like eating at a café and wishing you had two stomachs. Mars really, really went out of their way to make sure I got what I needed, in a timely manner and at a more than reasonable price.

I was in the market for a new heating and air conditioning system. I had four companies come out, and these guys blew the competition out of the water. It was funny, I thought I wanted a more expensive system, and the gentleman who came out actually talked me out of spending more money because the return on my investment was not there. Who else does that? They say that like to treat everyone like family, and that is how I felt. The experience was a lot of fun too. The original phone call, service man, and Installers were absolutely great. I'd give them one hundred stars if I could.

Dan arrived on-time, quickly diagnosed the problem, had the part and made the repair. Cost seemed fair and reasonable. In addition, checked the vent temperatures and gave me recommendations for improving my air conditioning situation. I was highly satisfied with the experience and would recommend him for HVAC service.

Dan cleaned and inspected my dryer vent and HVAC Ducts. I have a DIY brush and did it myself for years. I can't believe how much more lint his special machine got out of my duct. You really need a pro to do a great job. He arrived right in the middle of the service time window he gave me. He cleaned up all the debris. He carefully moved or covered everything while the work was performed. I was very pleased with the service, especially for such a reasonable price. The service truly exceeded my expectations!

Wow !!! Hands down the best air duct cleaning company around. I recently bought my house and noticed the ac wasn’t working in one of the rooms. Joseph came out and seen there was a major problem with one of the vents. He gave me an amazing deal with taping all the vents cleaning them out and giving me a new uv ray filter and it’s made such a difference in the air and my ac is working great. If you book for a cleaning every three months he gives you an additional credit. ?

I am very happy with the maintenance performed on my air conditioner/heat pump. My unit is 21 years old, but still running good. I was concerned about a maintenance call becoming a hard sales pitch by an unscrupulous company. After carefully looking at the reviews of several companies, I am glad that I chose ACP. I quickly came to trust Enrique. He thoroughly explained each of the procedures performed and made clear it was my choice whether to accept his recommendations. I accepted all of the recommendations, the unit is noticeably running better, plus he warrantied his work for the summer season. I plan to use his maintenance services in the future or if there is ever a problem with the unit. These days, it is hard to find people of integrity. I believe I have found that in Enrique.

Hiring MMAC Mechanical Services was a great choice. I was so pleased with them, that I hired them to work on three properties that I manage. Their staff is punctual, knowledgeable, and efficient. Ask for Nacho. He's great with new heating systems and older ones, like floor furnaces. I would recommend MMAC to anyone. It doesn't hurt that MMAC offers great deals.

Honesty and dependability are the two most important assets I look for in a contractor. Dave lived up to both expectations. He responded to my house within an hour and fully checked and serviced my heating unit. He could have easily padded his estimate by replacing components that were showing wear but he did not. He only advised me of the condition of the parts that would eventually require service. I would recommend Epic Air to others.

Clean Green Solutions cleaned my ducts, vent covers, changed the air filter, and tighten up a few things. The work was professional, organized, and through. He verified both heating and cooling was operating correctly. The vent covers are clean, it's running quieter, and it smells better. I would definitely call them again.

I’m very satisfied with the service from Jass. I called a couple of other companies for a quote and they told me that my Air Conditioner had to be replaced. Then a friend recommended to call this company. So I called Jass and he repaired my AC and it’s working fine. His quote for a new AC is alot cheaper than other companies I called. So I’ll be calling Jass if I ever need to get a new AC installed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.
