My experience with Shape Up Studios was absolutely top notch! I am an avid action sports enthusiast (MTB, Surfing, skiing, climbing etc) and as a result suffered a series of knee and back injuries. Fortunately, none required surgery but I was barred from physical activity for the better part of 6 months. In short, I grew weaker and wider during that time. After extensive rehab with my physical therapists and light physical activity i felt i was ready for strength training to get back in shape and work to get strong for a solid winter. I got cleared by my physician and therapists to do so and started searching for good trainers. Enter Markshane and the team at shape up studios. Markshane took the time and effort to understand where I was coming from, the nature of my injuries and what my goals were. He has an impressive setup with which he can set a biometric baseline and share, in layman's terms, where you stand in a holistic fitness spectrum so you can set realistic goals. It was clear from my first appointment that I had found the right team. Once my goals were set, I was introduced to the person that was going to be working one on one with me for the next 3 months: Manny. To put it bluntly, Manny kicked my ass for 3 months, two times a week. He is a hell of a trainer with a good eye for form and a good sense of how to push his clients so they can get the most out of their workouts. I learned a great deal from this man about form and how to structure workouts to get the most out of them. He was extremely encouraging the entire time and made a point of customizing my workouts with a focus on functional strength that i could use in the activities I love. I went from being scared of a kettle bell swing during my first week to doing deadlifts with confidence and something resembling grace and good form. I lost 7lbs (not bad considering my 3 months included thabksgiving and the holidays) and my back has never felt stronger. Im stoked, my body feels great, and I'm extremely grateful for the work Manny, Markshane and the team put in to help me get my results. The gym itself has everything you could ask for and it has a great vibe. You always have the space to workout comfortably, it has all the bells and whistles, you dont feel judged, everyone is encouraging, and everyone is there to work hard for themselves. The good vibes are key as I feel many gyms have too much of a bro-ey edge to them. At the end of the day though, it comes down to you. How bad do you want it? It will still require hard work on your end, good discipline, good diet (my weakest point and the root cause of not having lost more weight than I could have) and more than anything, good attitude. Go out there and get it people! I'm off to enjoy winter for now but will most likely be back when the Krispy Kremes get the best of me! When I signed up with Megan she told me that I would love coming to workout. She was right! The way she structures the class, the fact that in 2 months I've NEVER done the same workout twice, the way she knows exactly how to push, and her hilarious, welcoming personality have made me look forward to every workout - 3 times a week for me. I've never done strength training and it sure doesn't look fun - but somehow it is. And it works - I'm stronger already. If you're thinking of doing something really great for yourself, I can't think of a better place to start.
Lana is amazing! My mom and I just started training with her a few short weeks ago twice a week and i'm already seeing a HUGE difference in the way I look and more importantly the way I feel. I had a baby via c-section two months ago and have a lot of work ahead of me but Lana's experience and tailored workout regimens are so fun and applicable it doesn't even feel like work. We've done TRX, Strength Training and personalized water workouts and it's only been three weeks I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next. I have always worked out, primarily at group classes like Barry's Bootcamp. While I felt in shape, I saw little change in strength and overall fitness. After interviewing with several trainers, I went to Tom looking to see actual results, an improvement in strength and for nutrition advice. I have been working out with Tom since April, and am in the best shape of my life. His workouts are challenging, and personalized to my goals. I have developed more strength, confidence, and overall fitness in 8 months then I had in 3 years in group classes. I think the most valuable part of Tom's training has been the nutrition advice. His meal "plan" (and I hesitate to call it that) is easy to understand and follow, encourages REAL, nourishing food, and most importantly, balance. Unlike my experience with other trainers, I have never felt hungry or restricted, and have never had a better relationship with food. As a bonus, he can also be funny. I highly recommend Tom!
Great motivator. Very knowledgeable about fitness including yoga, strength training, agility, etc. highly recommend for all people. Even when you are not in her presence she can be a motivator and she gets you excited about the process.
When I met Colby in fall 2016 I wanted a trainer who could help me improve my running, climbing and cycling, performance through functional strength training, specifically to design a program to work in tandem with my marathon training program, hoping to shave a good amount off my time and set a new PR at LA 2017. He listened carefully to my goals and designed a plan to support my sports performance. After that, week by week(some where I wasn’t even sure I liked Colby too much anymore as I cursed at him in my head, too out of breath and half dying to be able to curse out loud) he lead a challenging, inventive and always fun work out. One of the greatest things about Colby, and the one thing that you need to get results, is consistency, in effort, in diet, even in recovery days. He knew when to push, and when to back off, he always created a safe environment for me to train and get stronger. He always brought 100%, and his only ask was that I did too. As the marathon season progressed, I noticed my short and long runs were getting easier, and I started moving up pace groups. I was also climbing higher grades than I ever had, and crushing classic Malibu rides on my road bike that previously left me shaking to even think about (I’m looking at you Piuma to Stunt to Mulholland to Las Virgenes 😳😳😳). When LA came around on March 19th, I ran 2 pace groups higher and crossed the finish line 47 minutes faster than the year before. Love the dude. Whatever you’re trying to do, I honestly know he’ll help you get there. Just don’t let him talk you into skydiving.
I have been training with Zack 3 times a week for about 6 months now. Zack is awesome! He is constantly changing up the workouts to best fit my needs and is super flexible to accommodate his clients as best as possible. After having broken my pelvis playing D1 soccer, Zack has been helping me recover through a very specific strength training program. I've definitely seen my strength, mobility, and agility improve since working with him.
Candon is very knowledgeable about all aspects of a good workout - physiology, nutrition, personal weaknesses/challenges. In addition he is super to work with and encouraging along the way. It's great to know that I'm doing what is effective, rather than just random exercise that may or may not be effective - or worse yet, cause harm. Our workout sessions include a good variety of cardio, strength training, and stretching so it doesn't get boring. He is able to give me exercises and routines that address my personal goals and I know I work harder and more effectively with his guidance than I would do on my own.
I have worked with Stacy for about 5 months. Stacy is a smart and well rounded trainer, who always has new efficient workouts and educates you along the way. Stacy is always positive, encouraging, and caring. Every milestone, big and small is celebrated. Most importantly, the results I have seen are incredible. I never thought I would say this, but I can now do a push up! Furthermore, I feel stronger and am confident when strength training. I highly recommend Stacy, she meets you where you're at and works closely with you to reach your goals.
So far only been to one training session and nutrition consultation with Tony but he is super awesome! He is helpful, listens, and actually trains you according to your level and needs. Highly recommended!
Incinerate Elite Personal Training has given me the motivation to achieve my fitness goals. Since I began working with Roger about 6 months ago I have lost weight and increased my strength and endurance. His gym has a variety of exercise machines and the session is never boring. I highly recommend Incinerate Elite Personal Training.
My experience with Sam Ostarello has been nothing but exceptional. I haven't personally been trained by her; however, I do know her work ethic and training skills as a former coach of hers. If I lived closer to her I would train with her and also would send my children to her.
Working with John is great! He's very knowledgeable on strength training and nutrition. And he comes right to you! (I can work out conveniently at the fitness center in our condo community.) Also, his price is very reasonable.
I have trained at several Muay Thai gyms in San Diego but I had never tried anything like 8Tribe. The training style is so much more rewarding than a typical "class" at other gyms. I can feel and see improvement every training session. If you feel like your stuck at a plateau in your training I suggest giving 8Tribe a try. Oh and I saved the best part for last. RONNIE IS THE MAN! He makes everyone feel like an equal on the team and he is personally dedicated to all the team members. The amount of personal attention that team members get is like nothing I have experienced before ( with out spending thousands for personals) at other gyms. I get pads held for me with personal instruction at every practice. Then I take those critiques and apply them in the rest of my training that day from shadow boxing, clinching, or sparring. If you want to see your game improve every day and know what it feels like to have the best group of fighters and coaches in your corner than I would say you will find no better team in San Diego than 8Tribe Muay Thai. TRUTH!
I am on week 11 with training with Tyler. He is overall a great trainer and friend. He is responsiveness is superb as I am able to text him to ask him any questions I need and he is flexible with my schedule. He gives great feedback and I am never afraid to tell him what workouts I am enjoying and which I am not and he is very willing to work with me to meet my needs. His knowledge about the human body and about fitness is extensive for being an undergrad in school and I feel confident in what he says. I would/ and have recommended Tyler to my friends who are looking to hire a personal trainer and I plan on working with Tyler for time to come!
Dina is an accomplished professional with over 20 years experience. I needed to train with someone who had my best interest at heart and I am very glad I met her. Dina is helping me with mobility issues. After 2 weeks I can say that I can actually move better.Dina is patient and thorough. She includes not only physical training but also diet and attitude along the way. She is fun but never looses track of the real goal...training. I will continue to go to Dina and will certainly tell friends about her.
I've been working out with Jamie now for about 6 weeks and have nothing but amazing things to say! He has very quickly dissolved the insecurities that I had about weight lifting and strength training and has turned it into confidence. He uses encouragement and is extremely patient in teaching me how to properly use the equipment and the form of each movement throughout. I work out with Jamie twice a week, and on the days I workout on my own at the gym I can very clearly hear his voice reminding me to follow through with each exercise, to complete each rep, and remember proper form. His style of personal training has been the most beneficial I have ever found. He teaches along the way and inspires curiosity of my own for constant improvement. Each time we meet he has a personalized workout that challenges me based on my progress and my goals. I truly look forward to each session and always leave happier, feeling healthier and motivated. This was the best decision I've made for my overall health in a long time, and I am very thankful for Forest Grown Health!
Are you looking for a trainer just for a name sake? Not ready to work hard but just want to tell people that you have a personal trainer? If so this is NOT the guy for you. Nicholas is an expert when it comes to strength training, abs , weight/fat loss, nutrition ...... you name it and he knows it. I have been training with him for last 3 months. It has been a great experience. He is not like any other trainer, he will have a detailed discussion with you and set up targets/goals before starting the training. He then performs complete analysis of your nutrition and other physical activities. After that you get a program that is specifically targeting your needs and helps you achieve the goals. He is good at kicking ass ( in a good way ) to make you work harder, works with you through the session , makes adjustments and modifications as we progress. The work outs are always interesting and different , he makes sure to keep them interesting and challenging all the time. This makes the whole experience enjoyable and you can actually see the visible results along the way. If you are looking for a trainer who would help you and motivate you to reach your goals this is the guy you should go to.
