John is amazing! He worked with my sister and I throughout our early pregnancies and our workouts were the highlight of my week. He didn't go easy on us (so. many. walking. lunges!) but we never felt unsafe or out of our comfort zone. He was great at thinking through our workouts holistically so that we didn't ever totally burn out one muscle group or another in a single session. I felt strong and awesome working with John. Looking forward to getting back to work with him after we deliver!
A New Life I am a very fortunate woman. I have been pressed against deaths door as a result of a life taking diagnosis. A healthy blood sugar number can vary between 70, and 150 according to our age. I am told that during my initial exam in emergency, I did not know my name, my address, the date or the name of our President of the United States. During initial exams, the medical team discovered that my sugar measured 1100! My pancreas was shutting down as a result of this dilemma. I was moved quickly to Intensive Care. This was the arena for the fight for my life. I missed some of this movie because of course I was not conscious. When I achieved consciousness several days had been spent. My children surrounded me and I tried to understand what had happened to me. I could not quite put the pieces together. For my cognitive ability was diminished by my circumstance. I did however hear the Doctor as he told my four children: I see that your mother has been quite a mover and a shaker in her life. However at this time she must focus on being a patient. I also understand that she lives alone However, at this time she cannot live independently. She will need care. Her diagnosis is Diabetes 2 and Pancreatitis Steroid Induced. She will need help managing her medication. She must take two types of insulin and she must have a total of 6 injections a day. Additionally, there is more medication that she must have to deal with for her diagnosis. Sadness washed over me like a wave rushing to the sand. Hashim Mteuzi, my youngest son quickly said, Thats ok. I will take Mom home with me. I will start her on a vegan diet and I will monitor her exercise. I have been encouraging Mom to change her diet. He turned to me and saw my tears. Very gently, he said to me, Dont cry Mom, we can beat this. We will beat this. April 7, 2013 my son brought me to his home to recuperate. My vegan life style began that day. My exercise began the next morning. He worked hard to teach me. I worked hard to learn what he was giving me. My body responded. I lived with him for almost 6 months. During that time I was able to discontinue the insulin injections. Next, I was able to discontinue the insulin pills. 17 months and 36 pounds later I am strong, I am vigorous and I am grateful. Because of the patient teaching of my son, I have a new life. I will be forever grateful.
Fernando really cares about your health. He takes the time to get to know what you need . He sets obtainable goals for you as well. For example he isn't just about this for financial reasons, to him this is a passion. He takes the time to listen to you so that he can design a program that best fits you.
I have three kids (now 11, 14 and 17). Two of my kids and I worked informally with Donna. One child (then 10 year old girl) worked formally with Donna for at least 6 months. Our whole family got motivated and active because of Donna. With her gentle encouragement and knowledgeable coaching, my three kids and I have each completed several 5ks and 10ks. My son and I successfully completed a half marathon following the personalized training plan she created for us. I even completed a sprint distance triathlon. This might not sound amazing, but my kids had never run before meeting Donna, and since I was overweight, I never thought any of those goals would be possible! What do you get when you work with Donna? My daughter got someone who got her motivated to get off the couch and come to regular fitness sessions, someone who made every session a fun way to meet personal goals. My kids and I got someone who used top-notch knowledge of the field to work with our different goals and widely divergent body types, to help each of us set and meet realistic goals. I got someone who used her personal journey in weight loss and towards personal fitness to model for me what is possible, and who inspired me, sometimes running with me each step of the way, to achieve goals I never would have imagined! I couldn't recommend Donna highly enough!
I've been working with Liz for nearly a year now. And she has helped me through a couple different phases in my life. When we first met, she coached me with a custom program to my lowest body fat % (which was the goal). I never felt so healthy - and was ready for a tri I planned to compete in. Then the gears shifted when I became pregnant. Liz coached me through the entire pregnancy - and I can honestly say it's because of her that I've had a relatively easy time of it. Staying fit while pregnant is very important, but you need to be careful. Liz knew just what to do. She has both the medical & fitness knowledge to keep me & baby safe and in shape. That knowledge applies to everything - whether you are recovering from an injury, have imbalances in your body, or have aches/pains and don't know why. I plan to continue working with Liz as I enter mommy-hood, and would highly recommend her to anyone. Here custom programs are top notch and her workouts are always fun/interesting. Even after a year, I look forward to seeing her every week.
Lucie is great. It's always fun to work out. I had an old ankle injury, broke my elbow, had surgery to fix the bad ankle joint, recovered from the elbow injury, and lost more than 50 lbs so far... and still going! People ask me if I work out now!
BC has been my trainer for several years now. Together we have greatly improved my strength, mobility and balance. I am now able to get around much better. I have a back condition which made walking painful. The condition will always be there, but I can now walk quite far before pain sets in. I have worked with other trainers; I have now found the best for me. Thanks!
Elizabeth Moulton is not only the consummate professional, she's also a great person to work with due to her incredible energy, great personality, positive attitude, and highly skilled abilities in so many different areas. Her expertise reached far beyond what I had ever expected, and she can "deliver" in so may different areas. I worked with Elizabeth for about a year, in Berkeley, CA. She was the manager of the apartment building my daughter was living in, and we had to work with Elizabeth for a number of reasons, for a number of different issues and problems we were having with my daughter's unit. Not only did she take care of everything in a timely manner, but she also personally oversaw all of the work that needed to be done, and handled all of the issues herself. She never flinched when things got sticky, and it never ceased to amaze me how kind, caring, and attentive she was. She's extremely intelligent and well-spoken, a real winner. I even wrote a letter to her boss, singing her praises, because she was truly worthy of the accolades. Anyone who has the good fortune to work with Elizabeth should consider themselves lucky! She's GOLD.
Azz is a fantastic trainer who is professional and knowledgeable. When I first met Azz, he inquired about my health history including injuries and limitations. We discussed my personal fitness goals and then the work began! I have been working with Azz for years. Each session we work on aerobic conditioning, interval training, muscle strength and stretching. He also offers great nutritional counseling. At the age of 65, I am stronger now than I was in my 20s!!! Azz offers positive reinforcement while getting me to work hard. And... he is fun and genuine!!!
Gleaming, glowing, charismatic, and talented are just a few of many words that come to my mind when I think of Jazz. I've had the pleasure of studying Samba and Afro-Brazilian Dance with her and she is by far one of the greatest teachers in the Bay Area and the US. Her passion and skill truly shine through her teaching style. She breaks down the movements in detail, provides constructive feedback, teaches beautiful choreography, and explains the history and meaning of the dance. She pieces all the elements of Brazilian dance together in such a way that allows me to feel I am growing and improving as a dancer and performer. She is authentic, motivating, and high spirited! I would recommend her to anyone who wants a challenge and who wants to become a better dancer!
