About

Garrick is very patient and engaging with our 7yo son. Our son loves his guitar lessons and wants to play. He's the real deal with his own gigs and he teaches using music we love. Garrick gets 5 stars because he unexpectedly requested to join us when we purchased our guitar, picked an appropriate used(!) one with metal strings and had it modified to bring the frets in closer for small fingers. His lessons feel customized. We recommend Garrick!

About

Ed is a working music professional who has been teaching private lessons in both guitar and voice at Gryphon Stringed Instruments for over 35 years, making it the longest anyone has been on Gryphon's private lesson teaching staff. With his many years of experience, he provides knowledge of all aspects of guitar and vocal techniques that few can match, plus an affinity for teaching students at any level of ability. Ed offers guitar lessons. Ed teaches a broad spectrum of musical styles, and plays nylon-string, steel-string acoustic, and electric guitars. Here's a listing of what he offers in guitar instruction: * Jazz Guitar: This includes everything from playing simple swing chords for song accompaniment to be-bop, modern mainstream jazz, and Brazilian jazz. Ed has transcribed and arranged literally hundreds of songs in these styles and has developed excellent materials that deal with soloing over chord changes and jazz theory. * Acoustic Guitar Stylings (beginning through advanced): This includes basic folk guitar, country blues, bluegrass, contemporary pop, rock and country, and classic rock repertoire for acoustic guitar. Ed has a wealth of written materials in each of these genres. * Classical Guitar (beginning through advanced): He has a repertoire ranging from Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical period composers to the great works of Spanish and Latin-American composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. * Electric Blues and Rock Guitar: He specializes in the styles of blues masters such as B.B. King and rock and blues stylists such as The Beatles, Clapton, Hendrix, and Santana. Ed offers lessons for beginners. For students who are brand new to guitar, Ed likes to take an approach from two angles: * getting the student started with basic chord fingerings and very easy songs * introducing the student to reading music, starting by learning the notes in the first position (first four frets) Ed offers voice instruction. He is as highly regarded for his vocal talents as he is for his guitar prowess. He has developed a proven method for teaching voice that really helps to remove the mystery of vocal technique and help people overcome the barriers that are often associated with singing. The musical styles and repertoire that Ed offers to voice students include jazz, rhythm and blues, folk, and rock. He also teaches harmony singing (a favorite of his). Ed offers group classes on Monday nights during the fall, winter, and spring. These are eight-week courses focusing on specific styles such as Brazilian guitar, acoustic rock, acoustic blues, jazz repertoire, etc. He also offers occasional one-day workshops on Saturdays. Check back frequently for new listings of Saturday workshops.

About

I initially thought about looking into lessons with Garth after I saw him perform. He's truly an incredible guitar player with a style that is uniquely his own. It's probably why he's been invited to play with legends such as Miles Davis. Shortly after seeing Garth perform, I was playing at a party and happened to meet a guy who said he was a bass player and had only very recently taken up guitar. So when he began playing in an impressive manner, I asked him how he got so good, so quick. His answer was that he'd been taking lessons from Garth. I'd heard enough. I booked lessons with Garth and have been taking lessons with him ever since. Garth's teaching style is very player friendly. He understands that the ultimate goal is to acquire the ability to make great music and to have fun doing it I've had some good teachers in the past, but I've never enjoyed the experience as much as I do with Garth. He's very laid back and able to break down licks and techniques in a manner that is easy to grasp. He allows me to record my lessons and each day I look forward to reviewing the material that we covered. I would highly recommend Garth to anyone looking to learn guitar.

About

Dave's a great teacher and guitarist and fun to be with. He's very encouraging and inspiring. I took several lessons from him, and always had fun while also learning things in the process - and I'm an experienced guitarist. You can tell Dave loves what he does. I recommend his lessons for guitarists at any skill level. I watched him teach my brother, who is a beginner, and Dave was great with him, too.

About

I have been taking lessons from Josh for about a year now (for guitar). He really makes guitar lessons fun, but teaches you a lot at the same time. He doesn't make you do crazy amounts of work either. He's very flexible when it comes to what you want to learn: he let's you bring your own music in, and he is very knowledgeable about different genres as well. I always am looking forward to the next lesson. The best environment for learning music is when you can just freely play with your friend or someone you are comfortable with...that's the environment Josh creates in his lessons, a jam session!! I would strongly recommend Josh to anyone looking for guitar/ukelele lessons! Thanks Josh!

About

I've been taking classical guitar lessons with Mark for nearly a year now. I met with a few different teachers around the Bay Area and decided to go with Mark, and I have been very happy with that decision. He's friendly and cheerful, takes a structured, well thought out approach to teaching, and of course plays beautifully himself, which always helps inspire me to improve my playing. I think he has a great breadth and depth of teaching experience and it shows, and it's that experience, along with his charisma, that separate him from other teachers. I've improved tremendously since I started working with him -- leaps and bounds above what I'd accomplished in four years of learning on my own -- both as a guitarist and as a musician in general.

About

Fabulous teacher! Since the last time I had any instrumental lessons were back in elementary school, I was a bit nervous about learning how to play an instrument, but that nervous all disappeared because of Simon's very accommodating, welcoming, friendly teaching style. He accommodates to your current skills and have taught me numerous songs and drills to help me become more agile with the guitar. Being a beginner (2 months since I first started playing), I always can't wait to learn new songs and drills in my weekly private lessons. To any beginners out there wanting to learn how to play the guitar, I DEFINITELY recommend you to him. You won't regret it!!

About

I create a unique curriculum for each of my students based on their individual interests and needs. All of my students get a strong base in practical theory, technique, and rhythmic awareness. I teach musical styles ranging from pop, jazz, and blues to rock, folk, and funk. Students are encouraged, but not required to read music. My holistic approach to teaching ensures that students get the theory, technique, musical awareness, and aural development necessary to become a strong musician. My students learn to fix and adjust their own instruments and, when applicable, how to use various electronic effects, such as reverb, delay, distortion, etc. I encourage a productive practice routine, and help students organize their time while working on new materials and just playing for fun. Whether you or your child have never played guitar or bass, or you have been playing for years and want to keep learning, I will help you gain knowledge and fulfillment from music!

About

Guitar lessons - fun and interesting, any style. Young but highly qualified guitar instructor, I play in an instrumental progressive band (rock/metal) as well as a jazz band. I am also an intended music major at SF State and have taught the advanced guitar class at my school for the past year, so I have plenty of experience. I was a beginner once too, and I know how frustrating it can be to start, and how embarrassing even it can be when you can't play when others around you can. I can teach you the ways, show you the ropes, and make you a solid, respectable musician. Whether it be song writing or soloing that you want to work on, I am solidly trained in many styles of guitar and will be able to help you progress in any genre with guitar playing that you would like to learn.

About

Hi, My name is Aaron Asghari. Since I was a teen, when I started to play the guitar at 14, it has become my true passion. Even if I enjoyed playing the guitar from the very start, it has not always been easy to advance. The private guitar instruction from an enthusiastic and dedicated guitar teacher provided me the motivation to push my skill level little by little. Private lessons provide students with the attention they need from the instructor, allowing each student to make progress at their own pace. Private instruction also allows every student to go on his or her own path in terms of the topics and musical genres that are interesting him or her. Learning to play the guitar is a unique challenge, but it can be very rewarding. I enjoy teaching students to discover their passion for music, and encouraging them to pursue them further. I offer guitar instruction for students at any skill level, from beginner to advanced. I also teach practically any style of guitar playing. I firmly believe that everyone is capable of playing and enjoying music. My goal is to make the learning process informative and fun for the students. I provide a comfortable learning environment for the student. I allow the student to set his or her own pace and still push them to challenge themselves to improve their skills.
