Rups L. says, "My 7th-grade daughter struggled with reading, vocabulary, and comprehension, making English her most challenging subject. This impacted her performance in other areas, including math word problems. She disliked reading, and post-COVID learning gaps only made things worse. Finding Ms. Carol was a game-changer. In just a few months, my daughter’s diagnostic test showed an impressive 25% growth, placing her in the stretch growth category. She is now mid-level 7 in comprehension and has surpassed phonics and high-frequency words. Ms. Carol’s structured approach, patience, and personalized guidance have transformed her confidence and skills. She assigns targeted homework; tracks progress and gently pushes her beyond her comfort zone. Thanks to Ms. Carol, my daughter is now catching up fast and finding success in reading. We are incredibly grateful and highly recommend her to any parent looking for a dedicated and effective tutor!"See more

My first student was my severely dyslexic sister who was in 8th grade reading at 1st grade level. For years teachers told me she needed to read more and she was eventually catch up. Nothing worked until I found the Orton-Gillingham method. Not only is she able to read now but she is addicted to a series of novels! I am trained and certified in the Barton System which one of the most comprehensive Orton-Gillingham based programs. The Orton-Gillingham method is the golden standard in teaching reading to children and adults with dyslexia. I have taken Lindamood-Bell's Lips training workshop on phonemic awareness for my most severely dyslexic students. I have also taken Susan Barton's 6-day graduate level Screening for Dyslexia seminar. In addition to my O.G.-based training, I have taken countless Linguistics and Structured Word Inquiry courses to expose my students to a scientific approach to orthography. Every word has a story and meaningful reasons for the way it is spelled, even so-called "sight words!" Using SWI, students use critical thinking, expand their vocabulary, and improve reading comprehension. Signs of Dyslexia: - Terrible spelling (Number 1 sign of Dyslexia) - Unable to sound out unknown words or nonsense words - Unable to retain spelling words from spelling tests - Slow choppy reading - Relies on context clues when reading - Makes guesses when reading I tutor all students (ages 6 to adult) online using a screen sharing software. My hourly rate applies to 55-minute sessions. I look forward to hearing from you!See more
