Sammy was fabulous! He was prompt, professional and courteous. His equipment was top notch and turned my living room into a dance club! We had him out for a Halloween party with 50 teenagers and he kept them dancing all night. It was such an easy party with Sammy there to entertain. We would hire him again.

We had Robin for our child's 5th birthday party as a facepianter in May 2015. She was exceptional! An amazing artist fun, friendly and professional. She also has Disney princesses available. We chose Elsa to go with our Frozen theme. She was fantastic as Elsa, great with the kids. They loved the games and singalong. Robin also did some balloon animals which amazed everyone even the adults at our party wanted face painting and balloons. Robin made our child's day very memorable. I highly recommend her to my friends and anyone who is looking for face painting, balloons creations, or a princess!

My daughter had a Great Gatsby Sweet Sixteen party last weekend. We had Cody as our DJ. Otherwise known as "Code One". He was superb! The kids loved him. He had the kids dancing the whole time. He played music that my daughter give him and added to his playlist. Just what she wanted! Cody had his lights going as well. Definitely very cool! The music really made a difference in the energy and atmosphere of the party. As an Event Planner, I've experienced many Dj's, and as a company goes, Groove Factor and Best Value DJ's was great to work with, easy and efficient. I highly recommend them for your next event.

Sheila and her team did a great job for our daughter's 8th birthday party! She was easy to communicate with and showed up on time for the party ready to go. The kids (and adults) loved the fun and creative face painting/airbrush artwork. Sheila was very sweet to the kids and helped make the party a big success. I would definitely recommend hiring Sheila and look forward to working with her again.

I hired Brittany for my (30-yr-old) birthday party and am incredibly glad I did. My friends, family and I had a blast getting our faces painted. And just as other reviews mentioned, Brittany was exactly on time, brought everything she needed and was very professional. Brittany was very sweet, worked quickly and is a talented artist. Oh, and her prices are great! Thank you, Brittany :)

My wife and I initially heard Natalie playing in a wine bar in Las Vegas. Her sound was incredible and so unique. Her library of songs is extremely diverse and ranges from modern hits by artists like John Legend, Adele, Beyonce & Ed Sheeran to classics from Billy Joel, Tom Petty, Janis Joplin & Bob Dylan. We love getting to hear Natalie play wherever we can and even hired her to play at our wedding last year! I can't recommend Natalie enough. She is an incredible talent with contagious energy and you'll very quickly find yourself singing along to every single one of her songs. No matter what the occasion, Natalie is the perfect hire.

I will have them perform at our party every year now and I know they have already received inquiries from my friends to perform at there upcoming events. Alex and the guys are awesome - accommodating to requests and just over all awesome guys and performers. I would recommend them to anyone looking to liven up a party or event. TJ is a wonderful magician! We hired him for my husband's 30th birthday party which was a masquerade ball. He was such a great sport. He dressed up and even wore a mask! He was a huge hit at the party. All of the guests were talking about what an amazing magician he is and how friendly he is. He's great with kids and adults and I can't wait to hire him again for my son's birthday party!

Foreign Unity also known as Jennifer. She is an amazing designer when is comes to floral design. A few months ago she did all the beautiful flower arrangements for my "Taste of Paris" baby shower, totally on point! A month ago she designed the flower arrangements for a friend's bridal shower, it was simple beautiful, just what the bride's host expected it to be. Jennifer has a great eye when it comes to choosing colors and flowers to suit the theme. Definitely a great listener when it comes to specifics to bring the party/special event to life!

I came across this tamborazo on the internet and I thought I would give them a try. I really enjoyed them! It was for my daughters Quinceñera. My guests were dancing all night, the price was great and they were very pleasant individuals. They were very professional and I had absolutely no issues with them. I will be hiring them again for any future parties and I would highly recommend them!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

What is a photo booth rental?

A party photo booth is a fun, interactive experience where guests can take a series of photos (usually three or four) that are immediately printed out on a strip as a keepsake. When you rent a party photo booth, the company sets up the booth or photo station at your event; a photographer staffs the booth and coaches guests on how to use it throughout the event. Often the photo booth rental company provides props like silly hats, wigs and glasses. There are different types of party photo booth rentals. An open-air booth has a curtain or backdrop that allows more freedom of movement and enables more people to use it at one time. The traditional enclosed photo booths that you may have seen at the mall or the fair tend to cost more to rent, as they are harder to transport and also cost more for the pros to purchase. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500.

What does a fortune teller do?

A fortune teller offers insight into people’s past, present and future through private readings. Some fortune tellers read palms or use tarot cards, runes, or tea leaves to see into a client’s future. Other fortune tellers consider themselves psychics, numerologists and mystics who look for patterns and meaning in seemingly random events, such as stirred tea leaves or the draw of a tarot card. By interpreting what they see in the cards or leaves, fortune tellers answer their clients’ questions about their lives, such as who or when they’ll marry, whether they should quit their job, or whether they should have a baby. Tarot card readings are a particularly popular way of having your future told, because they’re such a familiar method of fortune telling. More importantly, you can guide a tarot reading by asking the specific questions that are most important to you. By interpreting the cards you’ve drawn, the fortune teller may give you new insight into yourself and help you make an important decision. For some people, fortune tellers are simply amusing, but for others, they offer helpful guidance and spiritual nourishment.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
