Working with Dan was one of the best and most positive experiences we have ever had. My wife and I saw the music video for Ed Shereen's Thinking Out Loud and we wanted to do the dance for our wedding. We came to thumbtack to look for an instructor and luckily we came across Dan. At first I was skeptical that an instructor could choreograph a routine we would like and could perform well, so we told him we just wanted to follow the music video. However, Dan let us know we could do something much more elegant than the video and put together an even better routine for us. And it turned out amazing. Lesson by lesson he custom tailored a routine for us that was simply incredible and far exceeded our expectations. He listens to what you like and dislike and will change things around for you while also giving you his good suggestions. We both came into this with no experience in ballroom dancing, me having no dance experience at all. I was definitely extremely nervous that I could pull this wedding dance off at first as I consider myself a pretty bad dancer. But after every lesson I came out feeling more and more confident. Dan is not only a great instructor, but also has a very positive attitude that kept me motivated that I could do this. In the end, the dance turned out unbelievable. My wife and I would both highly recommend him if you are looking for an instructor for any kind of dance and level. We will definitely go back to him in the future. Thank you Dan!
Erin gave us dance lessons for our wedding first dance. Even at the last minute, Erin was easy to communicate and schedule with. She managed our time efficiently and clarified anything she felt was unclear during the dance lessons. Erin had a great, friendly, upbeat attitude from beginning to end and made us feel comfortable quickly. Highly recommend!
I took mostly Carolyn's salsa and ballroom lessons. They are just great. The way how Carolyn explains a structure of a dance is highly analytical and she always goes into fundamentals if you are willing to follow her. She always encourage you to improve a foundation you have, connection you establish with a partner and other principle things rather than to learn and forget in a week some fancy pattern. That doesn't mean, that you don't find fancy patterns at her lessons though, you do. But she is a true teacher and know where is a right emphasis should be. She answers a question behind a question, always generously gives you more than you asked and brings the best from her experience to you. Carolyn is highly oriented towards your personal abilities and current progress and stays with you at your personal level patiently building a foundation for you to step forward. And it's never boring! She shares a lot of her natural fun and charm with students and cares about an individual of any level in a group.
Emily Coles is an encouraging, compassionate, patient teacher! I've taken Latin ballroom and social dance lessons with her, and she has been amazing every step of the way. She adjusts to levels of dance experience and learning styles as needed. Whether you are a dance novice or veteran, working with her on steps, technique, or choreography is efficient and also super fun.
We've been taking weekly ballroom lessons. Dina's been very helpful and patient.
Desiree was such a pleasure to work with! We found Desiree on Yelp after finding out the person we originally wanted to commit to was no longer available and it honestly could not have worked out for the better! Desiree choreographed our waltz + hip-hop dance (~3.5 mins) over the course of 6 45-minute lessons (1 of those lessons was an evaluation for her to test our ability to handle certain difficulty levels and direction). DESIREE THE INSTRUCTOR: She was extremely patient and flexible with our schedules and not once pushed for any extra lessons we didn't need. Her technique made it really easy for us to grasp certain movements that we found difficult to learn. It made us feel good that she took the time to repeat anything we weren't sure of. After we had gotten the steps down, she made sure we took time to focus on hand movements/gestures and facial expressions (another really important part of any dance performance). DESIREE + YOU: It's important to note that learning a dance is a two-way street: you need to put in the time to practice and memorize your choreography, too. Your money and Desiree's time will go to waste if you don't commit to practicing. Desiree got us to feel comfortable in breaking out of our boxes to do something challenging and fun for our wedding -- it was worth every penny invested in these lessons. My husband and I got to bond over trying something new and we enjoyed every moment of it. I hope we never forget the choreography! We will be sending anyone interested in dance lessons her way. Marge was very friendly and understanding making it easy for a couple of non-dancers to begin learning ballroom dancing for the first time ever. We only had 4 hours with her since we decided on choreographing a ballroom dance so late in the game, but she was able to bring us up to speed quickly and professionally. She would get sidetracked sometimes and begin telling us stories but it was charming and she didn't stay off track for too long. Her teaching style was firm but patient at the same time and the lessons were always fun. Our dance turned out fantastic, especially considering the short amount of time she had to teach it to us and the fact that we had no prior dance training at all.
We took dance lessons from Alpa for our first dance at our wedding reception. She choreographed the whole thing and even asked us for our input and offered to let us change things based on comfort and preference. She did a great job though and me being the control freak that I am, I'm surprised that I didn't have a single change request! Let me stress that neither one of us are dancers and I was very worried about doing the dance in front of so many of our friends and family. But Alpa was so patient with us and made us feel so comfortable. We feel like we've known her for years yet we just met her a couple weeks ago! We learned the dance in two lessons and we will be back for our final lesson next week just to practice in front of her with my 25 lb lehenga and heels. If you need dance lessons of any kind, she is your girl! Thank you, Alpa! We are so thrilled that you will be a part of our big day in such a big way.
I have been taking ballroom dancing lessons with Daniel for over 4 years. He is funny, patient, and full of energy. He can teach you how to dance even if you think you have 4 left feet. He will find many different ways and customize to the students' need to explain a step or a pattern. I enjoy the learning process in addition to the results I achieved. A great dance teacher that think and teach out of the box and still keep the box in sight!
Caterina is an outstanding personal trainer. She adapts each training session to my capabilities and goals. She is very encouraging and motivating, which pushes me to surpass my expectations. She incorporates her dance experience to make the workouts fun and challenging. She has adapted exercises to improve my balance and stability. She is a delightful trainer to work with. I look forward to each training session.
Joseph taught me and my fiancee to dance salsa. In six lessons I went from a beginner who doesn't know a single to turn, to being able to dance a whole song chaining a series of moves. He was providing very actionable and specific feedback which helped me improve my technique and timing. I'd be happy to work again with him in the future. Thanks!
I went to a solo introductory class with Tara and she was very professional and understanding of what I was looking for, she introduced me to different forms of ballroom dance and allowed me to choose those that I liked and was comfortable with. I have to admit to an amazing first experience and signed up for more classes right away.
Larry J. Brooks, jr. has been my ballroom dance teacher for the past three years. A highly professional instructor, Larry is polite, encouraging and thorough. He has kept accurate records of my dance progress, begins and ends lessons punctually and maintains a safe, pleasant ballroom atmosphere. With a gentle nudge, I have been challenged to participate in several showcases partnered with Larry. Overall, my ballroom dance experience has been fun!
My [then] fiancée and I took lessons from Eliott for our first dance. Eliott was patient, fun, and an excellent teacher. We recommended him to our friends who also took lessons for their first dance!
I go there Friday nights for salsa lessons/dancing. I like the atmosphere: a small studio with a good mix of regulars and newbies. After the lesson, the lights go off and the floor opens for dancing. There's a small schmoozing area with snacks and wine, where (some of us) slackers can get a breather and catch up on the latest gossip. A warm friendly place to spend a Friday eve.
Walter is an exceptional teacher who has endless patience and is able to instill a faith in his students abilities to reach their goals. I have been a student of his for a little over 2 years and am always treated with respect and each lesson is productive because he has a plan for my dance journey. He wants me to be the best dancer that I can possibly be. He always arrives on time, neatly groomed and ready to work, yet each lesson is fun, too. I have seen he and his partner dance and know that I am being trained by a real professional. I am getting true value for the time and money spent. I highly recommend Walter as a ballroom dance instructor, and on top of that, he is a fine person and has become a friend. Sharon
She taught us a lovely dance for our wedding reception.
Shortly after I started dancing I met Jeremy who introduced me to competitive dance and I really got the bug. Jeremy makes training fun! His skill with story-telling through dance, character interpretation, and emotional expressiveness are his special gifts. It's been a fantastic experience to go from knowing almost nothing about ballroom dance to having a fun and challenging practice, quite a few competitions and even a world-title under my belt. All thanks to the commitment and skill Jeremy brings to his teaching! I have seen Jeremy work with beginners, wedding couples and a variety of levels of competitive dancer...he puts everyone at ease with his good-natured personality and is wonderful at helping dancers of any skill level improve and have fun in the process. As a high-level competitive professional dancer himself he has a wealth of experience and a great ability to inspire with his grace, strength and expressiveness.
Nathanael gave us some pointers on dancing for our first dance at our wedding last summer. He did a great job helping us understand basic couple dance techniques and how to work the entire dance floor. His assistance helped us make our first dance as a married couple memorable and made us look great.
